(please correct me if I'm wrong, Chris :) ) Then when she performed in Boston in front of the HMV a few months back Tara recognized Chris by sight. It was pretty neat. :) It was also the first time I met Tara, that day in Harvard Square. We talked a bit about the EDA list and Chris explained further how we find out and advertise about new artists on that list. Tara was pretty amazed. :) > Then, she got the attention of all the others in the room (which were about > 4-5 ppl) and introduced me as an EDA.. and they all knew what EDA was :-) Cool. :) At both Kendall Cafe shows in Boston, there were 5 EDAs right in front of her at all times cheering her on. She and Bill Bell got to know us pretty well. :) > Amazing experience to say the least :-) and of course she signed my CD "To > Gian, Always great to meet an EDA, Love and Light, Tara" > So as you can see, she likes us quite abit :-) > And i suggest you go see her if you get the chance, i know i'm repeating > myself but she is really a wonderful artist :-) Absolutely. She is a wonderful performer with a powerful and captivating voice. As I said before, if there was ever ANYONE I would want to see play with Jewel in a duet, it would be Tara. So everyone, go out and see Tara and hear why. :) > Well that was my story, anyone else? :-) take care... -Gian- (the > self-appointed Tara promoter) ;-) You're not the only one. There are at least 5 of us here who are absolutely loyal to Tara and will definitely go to see her every chance we get. Tara, like Jewel, is definitely one of a kind. Many people are talking about the recent Jewel article in SLAMM as if it were the equivalent of their mothers' pictures in porno mags. What I don't think they're getting is that the author is using a crude style to show readers the ridiculous nature of two opinions on female artists, and Jewel in particular. On one hand we have the stereotyped male, which unfortunately exists, who says "Wow, she's hot. I'd like to ". Then you have the people who say, "Oh sure, like she got the job for her voice." Yes, she did. I'm not naive enough to say her obvious physical, ah, qualities, didn't help, but they were an added plus, not the selling point. All the author did was answer (and state, which is what others keyed in on) these obnoxious statements with irony and satire. Yes, Jewel is incredibly beautiful. And yes, she has a voice and songwriting talent to match. Sometimes it be that way. First I'd like to say ... HA! HA! I met Chelsea! She's mah sister and she's 'da greatest, and I love her :) Anyway, it all started Friday night, when me and Jared went up to the Iron Horse in Mass, and saw the Rugburns with Rachel, Ted , Chris and other EDAs. I was an awesome show, Steve was REALLY happy :) I made the guys 13 cups in a square tupperware thingy... yes, you heard me, 13 cups of chocolate pudding, and the stupid security guards WOULDN'T let me give it to them! Grrrrrr. But on the plus side, I saw John, he said " Hey Puddin' " and kissed me on the cheek, so all was well :) On the way home I spilled about a cup of the pudding in Jared's jeep on the way to his house. So now I have 12 cups of chocolate pudding. The next day me and Rachel and Jared drove to NYC to meet.... Chelsea! We went to her hotel room ... and we hung ot with Ms. Chelsbean and her folks, who were very cool and then we awaited in the lobby for 'da other EDAs. We saw 'da Foo Fighters leave the hotel... I saw Taylor Hawkins, their new drummer, Alanis's ex-drummer ;) We went to Central Park and did stuff. BEWARE: Tom Miles is a very very good tackler, knocked me right off me feet. I wrote a whole new set of songs of my new album, "The Picnic", which includes such hits as "Ice Cream Girl", with the controversial line "Fake Nutty Buddy, Fake Nutty Buddy, Do you hate it because it's a fake Nutty Buddy" and no one can forget "Big Hacky Sac" , "Guillible Girl" and my favorite, "Rob, the Orange Peeler". After the park, we went to the toy store, where I "attempted" to play Tori Amos on the Foot Piano. Then we went to the block party and then saw Steve Poltz and walked with him to the Mercury Lounge, where he tried to got us under age folk in, but to no avail. Oh well, SIBTW. To pass 'da time we decided to Jekyl and Hydes, this really kewel restaurant. But before we left I had to say good bye to mah sister, Chelsea :( I love you insane;y :) and then we were off. Ohmigod! This place was the funny! Our waiter Pacifico was "cool" *****Stuff I overheard while eating: "Why aren't you eating your chicken, Rachel!" "Because I don't like it." "Is it cold in here, or am I just dead?" I can't remember anything else.***** After thr restaurante we went back to Tommie Miles' hotel room, where, yes I successful SLEPT in the closet, with large blue X's on my hands, because I AM A MINOR! ;) Then the other minors came back from 'da movie and we chilled. We had the Grease and Jewel singalong with me and Kelly and the gang and discussed cool things like Cartoons and Alanis. Then everyone left :( And we went to Tom's Place in Queens :) Woke up went to breakfast, and sadfully departed. :( TOP 10 KEWEL THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO PUD IN NYC: 10. I rode on the subway. :) 9. A confidant? A lover? A fellow email junkie? A shoulder to cry on? an ear to listen? a heart to feel?...A friend is all these things...and more. No matter where we met, ....I call you friend. A word so small...yet so large in feeling...a word filled with emotion. It is true great things come in small packages. Once the package of friendship has been opened, it can never be closed...it is a constant book always written...waiting to be read...and enjoyed. We may have our disagreements...we may argue...we may concern one another...friendship is a unique bond that lasts through it all.... A part of me is put into my friends...some it is my humor...some it is my listening ear...some it is real life experiences...some it is my romanticism...but with all, it is friendship. Friendships forged are a construct stronger than steel built as a foundation....necessary for life...and necessary for love. Friends...you and me... you brought another friend.. and then there were 3... we started our group... Our circle of friends... and like that circle... there is no beginning or end.... Keep this going....Email all your friends this message....email all those friends you never met....those you have...and those you've lost along the way... It is by chance we met, by choice we became friends... I think it's pretty new, because I've been sick and haven't left the house since Thursday, so I've been watching a lot of T.V. Anyway, my opinion: I'm glad she kept the feeling in the song that comes across whenever she's performed it elsewhere, but I didn't like how she cut out half the second verse, from "You teach me honest things.....off track with you". And, of course, I still would have preferred a video that was more than performance. Speaking of cutting a verse out, on one of the innerchange tapes, I think the second one, there's an extra verse on FG. Could somebody email me the lyrics for that if they happen to have them handy. If not, I'll just transcribe them on my own. (In other words, help me be lazy). Jules ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Jun 1997 22:22:07 -0400 From: "June A. Weller" Subject: D.C. I hate going to concerts where I don't know at least half the songs, so I need to be prepared ahead of time. Thanx. (never thought i would be excited about that :-> ) i finally saw the video for wwsys when i was in dallas a couple weeks ago. it is very strange because i was a fan of jewel's for almost a year before i saw any pictures, films, anything besides what is in the album cover! and you know what, i saw jewel (at the hdf-san diego) and met her before i saw either video. then i went to dallas for two weeks and i saw the melissa/jewel duet rerun, the hard rock live thingy about three times (i had already seen this cuz my parents taped it for me) , the women in rock thingy she hosted, and both videos (wwsys for the first time). so now i am all dosed up on jewel. and yet there is always room for more! ha ha .. and my new favourite song is nicotine love and near to that is here when gone. jewel is just great, but i guess you guys already know that. i will be unsubscribing on friday for about a month, but i will still check my email about once a week for those of you who need to reach me. see you guys at rockfest ! luna ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Jun 1997 23:10:37 -0400 From: Chris Phillips Subject: JC: Another guitar mag Jewel is also featured in another guitar magazine. We (the ones who weren't attending the performance) left the Mercury, but before doing anything else, we stopped at the Katz Deli (deemed the "Orgasm Deli" by Steve Poltz) and I was entertained watching Erica's transformation into Barbra Streisand (there was ah pictcha of Bahbra in da window). After a "quick" bite to eat, we mounted the subway again and returned to Chelsea's hotel room. THE HOTEL: [NOTICE: I did not talk much during this event] It had been about 26 hours since I was last on my bed, and the lack of sleep was taking its toll. Fortunately Stephen had a Vivarin handy which he graciously offered to me (thanks bud). Well now groups were forming again, some wanted to see Chasing Amy, others wanted to eat at the Jekyl and Hyde theme restaurant, and yet others had no plans at all. I would have gone with any group (everyone was just so cool!), but I chose to go with the Chasing Amy group (Thirza, Kelly, Stephen, & Russel) because it's a movie I really wanted to see. So we headed out (first making another stop at the 42nd floor) and started our LONG trip around the city (I'll explain). THE CITY: [NOTICE: ...Ok maybe I did talk a little] So... we began a long walk to the theatre that was playing Chasing Amy, but when we arrived, we were dissapointed to see that the show was sold out. Thirza wanted to try and make it to the showing at the Angelika (near the Mercury), so we started heading to the subway, but were interrupted when a big arcade blocked our path. We entered the crowded arcade and grabbed our tickets for the raffle for a trip to the Carribean and headed downstairs to the "glowing place." (I was wearing a pair of white khakis. *squints*). We sat around huddled in a small circle and conversed for a little while and after finding out that none of us were going to the Carribean (sorry guys, I forgot to mention that anyone who travels with me NEVER wins anything. I'm just bad luck), we continued our trek to the Angelika. Back into the subway we went and after a small dispute between Stephen and the token lady (what was that all about?) we headed back to E Houston Street. We came out of the subway and... well we were so close to the Mercury, let's see if we can still try to get in. Outside the Mercury we met up with Eric, Amy, and STINKY! We played another game of "sign anything possible" (this time it was Kelly's bottle of Evian) and when we finally got the point that we were not getting in, we headed to the Angelika. While walking to the Angelika I finally felt that Vivarin kick in (wow what timing, could it have waited any longer?). ANGELIKA: [NOTICE: I don't think I said anything at all] We walked up to the Angelika, saw that the next showing of Chasing Amy was too late, and left. We took the subway (no problems this time) back to Tom Miles' hotel room. THE OTHER HOTEL: [NOTICE: I did not speak by my own will here] Much about what happened at this part is a blur (this is the part where the, what Thirza calls "beverages," appeared). There was singing... and talking ("Is it cold in here or am I...." you know) . Russ and Kelly at some point. Me, Thirza, and Stephen took a long walk around the city... We came back... I got home somehow. I'd just like to apologize to everyone about being so quiet, it's just so hard for me to open up (ask my friends). But now I think I know must of you who went, and I wouldn't mind another get together soon. Thanks everyone for the great time, it's the most fun I've had since I've moved to this blasted city. :o) Hope to see you guys again pretty soon, miss you all already "The Quiet Angel" Abel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #424 ***************************
