I know this list has a lot of great people on it, that would help out a person like Wendy. But maybe we're all thinking, "Oh, there'll be someone else to help her out, so I won't bother responding." But maybe that's what all of us are thinking and she isn't getting any positive responses. Instead, the only responses that get to her are negative ones. This list has grown quite fast in the last few months, and we're going to be getting some people who only want to make trouble. Then the jerks will see a plea for help like that and think it's the perfect time for them to make someone else's lives miserable. To whoever flamed Wendy, please either stop making trouble or get off this list. To whoever gets flamed like Wendy, just ignore them. Don't let them get to you. Well we still got to meet her before she left to go home and rest.. wow these rtists these days are really working hard to make it, i suggest that we support hem in everyway we can... The day started for me driving to Steve Ito's house where i met Steve for the first time and James McGarry, which are two very cool people :-) then we decided to go to the venue and get good seats... We got to the venue and see that Dan and his two friends were already there talking to Tara, they told us the bad news and we were obviously disappointed but concerned for Tara also.. she felt so bad to have to cancel after seeing the length some people came to see her... SO, after some polite conversation with Tara and her guitarist they were off. We decided to wait for Mia and her companion for a few minutes but to no avail.. we left a note on the wall outside to tell her that we were down the street to get a bite to eat.. heheh i found this strange but affective :-)> Well after we had something to eat we travel down the street t a local used CD store.. where... we bump into Mia and her bf.. weird huh? :-)> Well we were all there finally and we take a little tour of the ity.. It was great fun to get together with these people :-) even thogh Tara cancelled we had a good time with eachother :-) > I must say that the people on this list are great..:-) and in the words of the wise Harris type person, the best part of this listis meeting with other EDA's :-) well those werent the words he used but you know what i mean :-) and of course i have to add what the lovable lawyer Larry said, we started off as fans of Jewel, and ended up being fans of eachother :-) and i must say, i'm a huge fan of you all!! :-) Ok, that's all from me folks, hope to see alot of you at the Toronto lilithfair :-) there might be a surprise for all who attend also :-) take care... - -Gian- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 01:37:11 -0400 (EDT) From: "Timothy Paul Mccormick Jr" Subject: NJC:Stanley is Home To be brief, because the party is everywhere in the streets of Metro Detroit. Contrary to the insanity the night before, the Rugburns showed more of their genius in music and less of their insanity, playing alot more of their softer songs and some of their more manic ones. This evening, as the Guiness flowed, the Rugburns were a classier act. They were very thoughtful, and very personal, and like the night before, Steve improvised a song for Audra, who was leaving her boyfriend Bryan to go to school. Steve was really happy to be in Northampton, and said it more than once. He even smiled at Ted so that Ted would take a picture (and he even said "You made me smile, Ted. No one makes me smile.") Steve played a lot of songs which were more personal to him, and it added a lot to the atmosphere. There was no smoking in the Iron Horse, so Stinky had to leave for smoke breaks a couple of times, leaving Steve and John or just Steve to play some more personal tunes. It worked out pretty nicely. The Rugburns were a class act this evening. They were an absolute joy to watch. I remembered a while back I asked what the Rugburns were like, and the answer I received was "You have to see them. They have to be experienced." Well, that answer was dead on. They have to be experienced. Two nights, two entirely different shows. I guess you never get the same show twice with the Rugburns. :) Kudos to Steve Poltz, John Castro, and Stinky for a great evening. It's in 3 parts).... Well, another incredible EDA gathering has come and gone! Add ChelStock to the list of "Unforgettables"! The plan was to meet at noon in the front of the Parker Meridian Hotel on 57th Street. I went in by train with a nearly hairless Eric aka Crashboy. When we arrived, we were greeted by Rachel, Erika "Puddini", Rob & Tammy & daughters, Jared, Kelly, Steve (GroovyWorm), Two Toms - Miles & O'Brien, a bag of New York bagels and, of course, the oh-so-adorable Chelsea! Soon after, more arrived - Peter the Kiss worshipper, Thirza, Anthony "Brooklyn" Amato, and a very sweet but very quiet newbie named Abel - he's only been on the list two weeks and has already been to an EDA gathering! Now the rest of you have no excuses! :-) I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Probably have. We all headed over to Central Park where we camped out for a couple of hours eating fruit, taking pictures, looking at pictures (most memorably Farr at the Campbell Inn with his finger up his nose! Hehe), playing a little guitar and getting acquainted with those we hadn't met before. Next it was FAO Schwartz to meet up with Chelsea's very cool parents. A bunch of EDA's in a giant toy store - scary. Before we even got in the door, what do I spot but - it isn't! could it be? A STUFFED LLAMA!!! Not just any llama, but a rocking llama! Unfortunately, it wasn't the elusive blue, but still. This is the THIRD gathering in a row with llamas! S-C-A-R-Y! Unfortunately, it was up high, so there was no chance of riding it. Oh well. Did anyone know there's a Barbie "made exclusively for FAO" called "Barbie Dressed As George Washington". Yes, folks, for a mere $75 you can have a Barbie Doll in a GW outfit. Oooh. Ahhh. Run, don't walk to your nearest Schwartz store for that one. Luckily we didn't get kicked out or anything. This is mainly due to the fact that a certain Harris was not present. After that the Campbells had to leave and the rest of us went to Chelsea's hotel room for a bit to - uh - freshen up and try to contact Russ who, oddly enough, never met up with us in Central Park. Here's a word of advice for anyone coming to New York in the future: Never say "I'll meet you in Central Park". It's about 60 blocks long. Luckily we were able to beep him and he soon arrived making the roster complete. After throwing around a ball of newly purchased "Zand" (weird stuff) and nearly trashing their room (that lamp fell over by itself - I SWEAR!) we headed downtown. I'm happy to say Tom Miles survived his first trip on a New York subway nearly unscathed. Of course we got a lot of evil looks because we were still tossing that damned Zand ball around. We went to a street fair on Bleecker Street where Patti Rothberg was supposed to be playing but I guess we missed her. Instead we stuffed ourselves with greasy food and did some shopping. Steve bought a big milk can full of delicious lollipops - flavors like Cappucino, & Chocolate Vanilla. He now has the new title of "Lollipop Boy". Of course we all had to sign the damn can (this signing thing is getting a little out of hand!). Next what to do? We stood around pondering this in typical EDA fashion for about 30 minutes deciding finally to head over to the Mercury Lounge to buy tickets for the Rugburns show and see if there was any way to get underage people in, since more than half the group was underage. So there we are walking down Houston Street when...... to be continued ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 13:24:32 -0400 (EDT) From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: NJC ChelStock, Llamas, and Rugburns, oh my Part 2 ...so there we are walking down Houston Street when Eric spots someone who from the back looks like Steve Poltz. He says jokingly "Hey, it's Steve Poltz". The guy turns around. "It IS Steve Poltz!!" Poor Steve was a little confused and nearly got run over by 6 lanes of traffic (Oops, sorry Steve. Don't think Jewel would have been too proud of her EDA's if we had gotten Steve killed). He was with Bob Duffy and a couple other people. He recognized Rachel right away, of course, and remembered some of the rest of us. We followed him to the Mercury since we weren't sure where we were going anyway and stood outside talking with him for about a half hour. I showed him my photos from Hot Dog Fest which also included some Llama pictures and some pictures Dennis took at the Wiltern show. At some point, Patti Rothberg came out of the Mercury, unnoticed by all but Chelsea! When she pointed her out we all kind of waved as she got into a cab. Then a kid shows up who turns out to be the guy who left school in Texas for a week to go on the road with the Rugburns (Steve had told us the story at HDF). We also found out there was absolutely positively no way they were going to let any underage people in. That was really a shame. We left there and went to Katz's Deli a couple blocks away on Steve's recommendation that they had excellent excellent hot dogs. Well, at this point, everyone went back uptown with the exception of Eric & I who spent a couple of hours roaming the East Village and shopping for comic books and cd's on St. Marks. I found a copy of the Spew+ with Jewel's "I'm Sensitive" for $5. I think it's a promo or something because it came in a clear plastic pouch that had a tie and the disk is just silver on both sides with no writing or anything. Has anyone seen it like that before? We then went back to the Mercury and stood outside waiting...and waiting...and waiting for Jared, Tom M. and Peter who were supposed to meet us at 10. Stinky came outside and we talked to him for a bit. I showed him the LA pictures and gave him a few. When he got to the Wiltern pics I said "Oh, Dennis Harris took those. I don't know if you remember him..." "Oh yea - of course I remember him". 'Nuff said. :-) We finally gave up and went in, catching the last few songs of one of the other bands that were playing and talking to John Castro. I had him sign my HDF shirt because, I told him, he was there in spirit. So he signed it "John Castro - Burns No-Show '97". Of course about ten minutes before the Rugs went on (which was after midnight) who should saunter in but Jared, Tom, and Peter. see part 3 for the show review ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 13:27:41 -0400 (EDT) From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: NJC Part 3: The show So the Rugburns took the stage and were just as incredible as everyone said - much different than the Tiny Lights tour. It really is such a pleasure to watch people who so thouroughly enjoy what they do. They definitely won over the audience in the first 20 seconds. Stinky, of course, drummed around the room - on the floor, a glass someone had earlier dropped and broken, on the bass and guitar, on Steve, etc. I'm not good at remembering set lists, but I'll name some of the songs they did - Silver Lining (yay!), Hithchiker Joe (yay!), YWMFM (of course with re-enaction of the video using John as Jewel and including all the parts that - yea right - got "edited out" - hehe), a very interesting poem Steve wrote which I can't even begin to describe, I Don't Love You I Just Love Mystery, a cover of Prince's Little Red Corvette :-), some other stuff and then ending with a 15 minute rendition of Dick's Automotive that had everyone rolling on the floor. Unfortunately, the Mercury had set time limits on the acts. Steve said the conversation had gone something like this: "How long do we have to play?" "We're giving each band an hour" "Oh, two hours, you say?" They compromised on an hour and a half but they actually played a little longer. Still too short if you ask me! At the end Steve reached for my hand to help him down from the stage and we talked to each of them a little again, then sat in the bar for a bit and left at about 2:30 am. I didn't get home until almost 4! A great day - a great night - great people! Thanks guys! Love you all! WWSYS has FAILED to appear in the official UK top 40 after a week of sales. Instead we have to put up with Hansen at No.1 for another week. Personally, I blame Atlantic records. Their marketing strategy for new acts stinks in the UK. Another highly successful band, The Corrs, has been a hit all around the world but has never appeared in the charts here. They seem to think that by putting a CD in a shop, it will simply sell on looks alone. Unfortunatly, the UK chart is dominated by hype driven music such as the Spice Girls, Jon Bon Jovi and most recently, Hansen. I do agree that Jewel would not suit such hype but even a little bit would have at least mead the single appear in the charts. In the past week, I have not seen anything on TV about her (Most of her SMALL UK appearences were at the beginning of her tour 5 WEEKS ago). There has hardly been any radio airplay or popular media coverage on her and this entirely down to a poor marketing strategy on Atlantic's behalf. This is hardly the attitude of a record company trying to make money on their popular and talented artists. Perhaps they believe that Jewel is only good enough for America? I certainly hope that this is not the case as she deserves every bit of attention and support possible to make her the star she ought to be. Sorry if this message has been harsh but after weeks of anticipation, I'm a little let down by the poor performance of the single. I've never wanted to move to America more in my life before. Ho hum..... Maybe YWMFM will fare slightly better, if not FG will definitly be a strong contender if it has the backing of the Batman franchise behind it. Adiet ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 15:42:31 -0400 (EDT) From: AngelKM97@aol.com Subject: NJC: ChelsStock, Kelly's version Hi all, Since I woke up today to find that Amy (Llama girl, as I now know her) had already given her story of the events that we called "ChelsStock", I will just tell the story of the underage folk that couldn't get in to the Rugburns show, along with a few things that amy may have missed beforehand. well, I got to Penn Station a little early to meet Rob, Tammy, the kids, and Tom-I-don't know-which-one (but some people call him frat boy). The first one to show was Tom, who, upon noticing me playing with my tongue ring, came up to me and said, "are you Kelly?". Then Rob Tammy and the kiddies showed up. Then we got the cab to the hotel. so there's a bunch of psychotic little angels hanging out in the lobby, and Chelsea informs us that Motley Crue AND REM were staying at that very same floor. I don't much care for those 2 bands, but it was cool anyway. A little later, who should walk right past us but Dave Grohl from the Foo fighters. I thought he looked like him but didn't think of it at the time, but I WAS RIGHT IN THE SAME ROOM AS A MAN THAT WAS ACTUALLY IN A BAND WITH KURT COBAIN!!!!!!!!!! ( I love kurt Cobain, incase anyone cares) Anyway, off to Central Park, which was already explained by Amy. Off to FAO after that, I wandered with Eric, Thirza, Erica(who, byt the way is named after Erica Kane from All My Children- hahaha, it must stink to be named after one of the worst actresses in Daytime TV :o) --love ya, Erica) and we marveled at the extremely hight prices. I found a really cute stuffed elephant, not too big, but it must've been made with real fur cause it cost $560!!!!!!! After FAO, Rob and Tammy left cause they didn't wanna take the kiddies to the block party. After FAO we were at Chelsea's hotel, and Abel, me and Thirza went on an REM/Alanis Morissette hunt to the penthouse. We went to the 42 floor, and I still can't believe how fast that elevator goes) We stole roses from what very well could have been Michael Stipe's Room Service Tray, and caused angel-trouble in the hotel. I decided to become obsessed with the ice machine outside Chelsea's room, wanting ice everytome I walked past it. After this, we attempted to go and get tickets for the 'Burns show....part 2 will follow shortly, as I have to go strip.....some wallpaper from the walls of my mother's sewing room..... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 1997 15:50:33 -0400 From: Adie Turford Subject: JC:UK Single Blues To add to what Myles said, i've heard the song only once on the radio and= that was a local station also the single has just been put into shops. I mean, The whole article centers around Jewel's anatomy and not her talent.. I found it to have no relevance what so ever to promoting or demoting Jewel. He is right in saying that it has no bearing on why she is popular but why did he write the article....? Anyway, I thought I would throw my two cents in here... You all know how I feel and most of you feel the same... So there is no need to reiterate the general concensus... SLAMM Laura Tonn wrote: > He is right in saying that it has no bearing on why she is popular but > why did he write the article....? =) She wrote the article because it is an editorial, which is meant to give an opinion. I read the article as a satire on the world's fascination on Jewel's breasts. It was trying to point out how ridi- culous that is and makes references to Jewel's great voice and important grass roots. It is an editorial that attempts (and suceeds, IMHO) to state that Jewel is much more than "big ta-tas". The last paragraph quotes: "Cut the girl a break. So what if she can sing the Hoboken blues and still maintain her sultry chick persona? That's the way life is, boys and girls. There are winners and losers and sometimes the chick with the great voice also has great hooters. Deal with it." =) Crunch! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jun 1997 14:37:28 -0400 From: "June A. Weller" Subject: Calling CASEY HANSEN Hey Casey, I lost your email.
