Some of them would, but not many in my opinion. > -Kelly :) Well, I don't really think it's fair to classify them in the same category as Jewel. Jewel doesn't need a lot of backup because the main focus of her music is her voice and her words. But most of the famous artists today are not really the same. For many of them, the actual music they make, and not the singing, is the main focus. Therefore, you can't fairly classify them with Jewel. Because if you took away everything except their voice and one instrument, their whole essence would be lost. It would be the same effect as if you took away Jewel's voice and guitar. Does that make sense to everyone?? It's hard to explain what I really mean, so I hope everyone gets the general idea of what I'm trying to say! *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 18:30:57 -0400 (EDT) From: the emperor of smurfs Subject: Re: SJC: yodeling sebastian wrote: > I have a copy of the ORIGINAL "ChimeBells" who is the performer on your recording? *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 17:43:37 -0500 From: "James H. My response would be I would like to truly believe that looks don't matter and I strive to reach that place, but in the meantime I care a lot and am very sensitive about all issues relating to appearance. My husband says it's all bullshit but I still get sad when I look in the mirror sometimes. And then other days I think what I see is perhaps OK afterall. Hello, I've posted to this list several times. I don't think i've formally introduced myself tho. I'm 14 (15 on June 16th) years old. My name is Linda MacIntyre - I was named after my mother who was named after an old 1950's acrtess - i dunno who tho. Anyway I finally got my hands on a pair of Jewel tickets - lord knows i'm going to cry - especially if she plays "Painters" (altho "Foolish Games" is my favorite song of hers that i've heard) The show cannot be complete unless I meet Jewel and tell her. I have been plagued for the past year since I started listening to her, with this incredibly vast passion to meet her and tell her face to face how much her music has affected me, my life, my choices through my teenage years, not to mention my goals of moving towards music. What i'm asking is if anyone here who can be at the PNC Bank Arts Center show... to please help me get to meet Jewel - it would mean the world to me and more... thank you so much for anyone who can help.. a total jewel victim :), - -linda :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 22:26:56 -0400 (EDT) From: Phish82@aol.com Subject: poetry If anyone has any poetry that they have written or just something that they found please send it to me. You'll find some answers to many current EDA questions. Read on..... 1.)Upcoming TV: The only things planned presently are the MTV Movie Awards this month which you already know about. (Being filmed on 6/7/97 & broadcast at 9PM EST on 7/12/97) Also see following info about Rockfest 97. 2.)The NEW "Foolish Games" video: The new video will be shot on June 23rd. Final concept details are being ironed out now. Expect its release toward the end of July or early August at the soonest. 3.) Netherlands Park Pop Festival 6/29/97 & Montreaux Jazz Festival 7/12/97: Jewel has not been booked to perform at either of these festivals. 4.) Rockfest 97 on 6/21/97: Everything is still under negotiation but this concert will likely be broadcast in some form on every media known to man. Both MTV & VH1 are planning specials on it. Major radio networks are working out broadcast details. It will likely be simulcast into cyberspace. A double CD is also being discussed. 5.) The voice of Epiphany, an animated angel in "Burn, A Love Story": Jewel said she was asked about this backstage once and said it sounded interesting to her. Lenedra has not been contacted but Inga may have had a preliminary contact from them. Nothing definite has ever been set up & discussion with Jewel isn't even ongoing at this point. Jewel likes the idea of doing an animated voice though & thinks it would be fun. 6.) Plans for after the Lilith Fair & following the headline USA tour: Jewel will go to Hong Kong and Japan the first 10 days of October which will immediately be followed by another European tour, with larger venues from mid October to mid November. Dates will not be announced for some time. 7.) The recent European tour The Europe tour was a great success & they were pleased with the press and radio response and glad to see EDAs at almost all the shows! :-) There you have it. And for all those people worried about Jewel's sleeping habits, they arrived home safely & Jewel is sleeping comfortably in her own bed tonight. :-) Best wishes, Alan(MrBB) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 23:21:25 -0500 (CDT) From: asset.moo@mail.utexas.edu (TesSA) Subject: Re: jewel-digest V2 #412 ummm Geez! Now I cant remember who wrote this: > How dare you quote Plato ("the life which is unexamined is not worth >living.") and then criticize people for "examining" Jewel. Ummmm Well, Im not saying that anyone was at fault here, but I dont beleive I saw anywhere where Farr critcized Casey for examining Jewel's life, he just posted a quote he thought was appropriate... >Nathan wrote about Pol Jarvis's happy moment with our angel: >Sorry Pol, but I have to correct you because SOMEONE on the list >(the type jumping down Jewel's throat for not having memorized her >own chronology as well as some nitpicky EDAs) is going to tell you >that she played the Opera House on Monday, May 13 (not 3), 1996. > > >Nathan Hey Nathan, and everyone why must WE jump down each other's throats over our not having memorized Jewel's chronology?! Does it REALLY matter?! NO, it doesnt, and so Nathan just convieniently happened to write himself into his own post as that "SOMEONE"... why be that someone?! These are such trivial matters. WE ALL are Jewel fans, just because some of us have been to more concerts, or met her, or know her exact movements of every minuite of everyday doesnt mean that we love her at different degrees... it just means that we are each diffeernt, and that is what is beautiful about this list... yes, opinions are welcome, and CONSTRUCTIVE critisism as well, but petty nitpickings are something that can be and should be avoided as much as possible. Dont be that "SOMEBODY" because there is a person at the other end of the list with feelings and opinions just as strong as yours are. but if you REALLY have to vent, then type it out... and say all the nasty things you want to say... let it out, and then send it to yourself. Later you probably will find what you felt before may have been a tad silly or on the harsh side, but you wont have hurt anyone's feelings and gained some composure as well heheheh I KNOW this because I have done this many a times... it really helps! Too sad for words Heather c The Associated Press MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The body of folk singer Jeff Buckley was found Wednesday night floating in the Mississippi River, where he had gone for a swim last week. Police told television station WMC that a passenger on the American Queen river boat spotted the body at the foot of the city's famous Beale Street. The body had a pierced navel - like Buckley's - and was in the same clothes Buckley was described as wearing when he disappeared, police said. The 30-year-old singer had been missing since jumping into the water at the downtown riverfront harbor on May 30. Buckley, the son of cult songwriter and singer Tim Buckley, came to Memphis in February to record an album starting this month, said publicists at Columbia Records. Unlike his father, Buckley's music tended more toward rock than folk. Critics compared his sweeping voice to Van Morrison and his bombastic lyrics to Led Zeppelin. His last album, ``Grace'' in 1994, included the alternative hit ``Last Goodbye.'' Buckley went to high school in New York, then moved to Los Angeles to study music. There he played jazz and funk before joining Shinehead, a reggae band. After moving back to New York, he formed the short-lived band Gods & Monsters, then launched a solo career playing clubs and coffeehouses. He signed a record deal with Columbia, and released the five-song live EP ``Live at Sin-e'' in 1993. Tim Buckley died of a drug overdose in 1975 at age 28.
