I am really hyper right now, especially from reading all those posts from this past weekend. I haven't had access since thursday, so when I got online today there were 400-some messages waiting for me (yay!) That also explains why this is so late, but TOO BAD! My post is going to be from MY point of view, and it won't have all the general "first we did this, then we did that stuff," because I think everyone else had done a good job of delineating everything that went on. BUT I shall supply what was left out. So, this will be cool. First of all, I have to thank Tammy and Rob for opening their house to us, and Tom Miles for driving me all the way there even though I wet his seat (WITH WATER, Y'ALL!). And everyone I met there for being really cool, and God for making all of this possible. And Farr, for doing his darnedest to make sure I got there. Farr is truly a real sweetie. So, I woke up at 5:01 in the morning and wondered if I'd lost my mind. I got my stuff together, I must have been tired, because I don't remember all I did, but Tom and Stephanie showed up at 6:15. Stephanie needed to store some of her stuff there, and then we waited for Josh to show up, and we crammed ourselves into the car, stuff packed firmly around us and on top of us and crossing our fingers that the trunk wouldn't pop open or the from wheels wouldn't go flying off. We stopped at the Hugest Walmart Known to Man, where they even had a produce section, and we bought stuff. Nuff said. I bought some postcards of lancaster to send to my sister for her school project, and one had a map of PA on the front, and the writing on the back said "the Amish...ride scooters like this one." We got back to the car and Tom realized he bought one pack size C batteries and one pack size D. So he went back in, leaving us alone with the police scanner, which was ranting about a suspect with "hair in a ponytail, carrying a brown purse, wearing white pants...a black or hispanic female." Tom got in the car and my cup of water, sitting inbetween my legs, promptly spilled. Thus started my weekend of having a wet butt. Driving the down the highway, I needed to use the potty, so we stopped at a rest station, where I refilled my cup of water, Tom threw (okay, dropped) my muffins on the ground, and we found out that Stephanie gets ticklish when you poke somebody, anybody, even the air. She's worse than me! The lady in line behind Stephanie and I was looking at me funny, so I informed her that I had NOT peed myself, I had spilled WATER on myself. She asked us if we were on a school trip so Steph very assertively informed her that we were in COLLEGE, and there ARE no school trips in college. It seems most people assume she's still in high school. So finally we get to the park, as Tom said it took us over 4 hours, which it really shouldn't have. I worked there last summer, so it was weird to be in the visitor parking lot and especially to PAY to get in, but that came later. We stood near the flagpole near the entrance and tried calling Farr's longdistance cell phone, and looking at anyone wearing a yellow hat. Stephanie yelled, Tom ran around chasing anything high and yellow, including a tweetie bird that someone carried on his head, Josh sat there, and I suggested holding signs and shaping our bodies like the letters EDA. But noone really liked that idea, and a lone E gets strange looks.... Yadah yadah we found people. We went on the safari, and the bus driver called the lion area "Simba territory" even though Simba is Disney and Six Flags is Warner Brothers, duh! You know, people are always coming in looking for Mickey Mouse and thinking Speedy Gonzales is Mickey, and it drives the workers crazy. Anyway. People were sticking their hands our the windows at the animals and feeding them -- big No-No's. We were watching one giraffe approach a car on the far side of the road and someone in the back of the bus said, "These people are like, 'I will stick my hand out the window and make you cross five lanes of traffic just so I can pull my hand back in at the last minute.'" I thought it was hysterical. In the park, we abandoned Eric and Mia and followed blindly as we headed for the Batman Stunt Show. No way did I want to see that show, and I refused to do it -- I worked there, I knew how stupid it is. So I walked away, and Farr ran after me and attacked me. He tried to get me to go on the Batman Ride but I dragged him on Congo Rivers instead, and he got soaked. Heh-heh. Of course, so did I, and my butt had just started to dry, too!!! Yadah Yadah, did stuff. I visited people while people went on rides because I'm really not big on rides. I like Disney lots better, but don't tell Time-Warner that. Farr got hit on by three girls who looked twelve at the oldest, and twenty feet shorter than him. According to him, told him the same story at least four times. Giggle-giggle! :) Some people left, some stayed. Ted could get us on rides in a snap, and so I stayed because there was one more ride I wanted to go on. Ted got attacked by a Bugs Bunny Balloon, and some people went on Batman. We went on The Right Stuff, which I love, and then Thirza, Eric, Lauren, and I did a recording at recording studio of the two Jewel songs they had (guess which ones they were? ;) and my friend Maurice worked there and we called each other Mumra (I'm sure you've read it in other posts). I came close to missing working there. okay, on to part two. Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! And me and Laura and Dave and Farr rode with Ted. And we got lost and people told jokes and we saw pretty water and I ate beef jerky for the first time and Laura asked Dave how old he was and he looked at her funny and told her he was fine. I'd thought she'd asked how he was, too. And we stopped at a gas station for directions and it took him three years to give them to us. Finally we reached Camp Campbell and Farr had to put on his shoes because we'd been playing footsie ;) And inside it was a SEA OF BLANKETS!!!!!! And disordered when it came to speaking, because people wandered inside and out. Stephanie read her awesome poetry, we discussed the NEA, and we watched the Hot Dog Fest video. Duh, you all know that by now. I showered, We went sleepy-byes. I woke up to see Dave and Steve looking down from the guest room window at Stephanie and poking the air, and she woke up and yelled. Wow, is she ticklish! ;) We wandered around. We left for IHOP. We got lost. This time I was with Tom somebody and his twin (no actually his friend) Mitch and Steve (who lies ;). We went the wrong way, and Tom and Mitch told me I look like Janeane Garofalo (EVERYONE TELLS ME THIS, I EVEN HAVE A GREAT ADVENTURE NAME TAG THAT SAYS "JANNEANE") and finally we got to IHOP and the pancake Nazi told us that we couldn't sit down because our family had already been seated, so I went and talked to Rob and he got us bumped up. I bought an EDA poster off Tegan, and it cost me $12, but I do not regret it at ALL. I had everyone sign it, but I can't find Steve or Paul's sigs. Then it took us a zillion years to leave (me, Tom, Steph and Josh) and I didn't WANT TO LEAVE. I had the best weekend of my entire life, and I thank you all for making it one. I love you all! read my next post, I don't think many people are still reading this one, but if you are, thank you! Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! I'm doing a humor piece on repeat writing and I know that alot of Jewel lyrics are repeated so I wanted to focus on her. I printed out all the ones on the home-page, but there are so many lyrics and I can't seem to find any examples of what I want. Please help if you can. The piece will be funny, not mean. I'm a Jewel fan from way back and I wouldn't be at the head of a lynching. I know it may seem ridiculous, but pieces like this keep me working and insure my job. If you can help, write me. Thank you Peace, cj ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 May 1997 21:34:18 +0000 From: jnj@mail.better.net Subject: Any Pat Metheny fans out there? Hey thanks everybody for the response to my songwriting probe. It's nice to get proof every once in a while that we are all connected and it's not just some deluded dream that I have. One more question: Any Pat Metheny fans out there? No, he's not anything like Jewel if you listen to his music, but there are parallels. That is, he's immensely popular though no one could ever say he sold out in his twenty one year career, and his highly emotional songs stick very easily in your head. Hello all. My name is Josh Christian and I have been a fan of Jewels for quite a while. I recently (about two days ago) joined this list and I was wondering: How many Angels are there out here on the west coast, where I live? Particularly in Washington state? I'd love to meet you all. Secondly, if anyone could direct me to where I may obtain any of Jewels earlier releases, I would much appreciate it. I eagerly await her next album... so time soon, I hope. Also, if anyone could direct me to where I may be able to get other merchandise involving Jewel, such as shirts, posters, videos, etc. I would likewise be enthusiastic to express thanks. Anyhow, I'll stop writing now... The picture shows her sitting on the back of a (her?) VW bus with her blue Ferrington guitar. Page 3 is a D'Addario Guitar Strings ad featuring...Jewel! Pages 44-50 is a feature article about..............Jewel! If their facts are correct, the Kirchers lived on 8 acres in Alaska. Some obvious mistakes can be found in the article. The guitar tab for 'You Were Meant for Me' is included in the pages of the article. Page 92 and 94 has a Gearbox article featuring......Jewel! Actually, the article is about Jewel's blue Ferrington guitar. Acoustic Guitar Magazine can be found at http://www.acguitar.com/ As of this note, their site still has the June 97 issue featured. I was thinking, just a few days ago, that it would be cool to have a star namede after Jewel, because I saw something about it on a show a few months ago. "Oh, sure," you say "You can say that now, but that doesn't mean it's true. Your just trying to take credit for," but it's true, honest, I did think of it. I just didn't suggest it. I glad I didn't, it would have ruined the surprise. - --Shaun ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #379 ***************************
