Anyway, back to the show.It started and ended with my 2 favourite songs,1000 Miles and Nikos. In between, from what I can remember,Jewel played WWSYS,Little Sister,Near You Always,I'm Sensitive,You Were Meant For Me,Amen,Race Car Driver,Chime Bells,Carnivore,a Cole Porter number, and 2 or 3 songs that I didn't recognise, plus Lenedra sang Jewel's old bedtime lullaby and they then did a beautiful closing Duet (which I didn't recognise and which almost fell apart in complete laughter at the end when they forgot the words !!).All in all,the show lasted 80 minutes (not bad for an $8 ticket price) although unfortunately it went by so quickly. Just a little something about the Mean Fiddler venue. The show was played in the (very small) acoustic room in front of just 100 people (sold out),creating a very noisy and enthusiastic atmosphere which Jewel really appreciated. She seemed genuinely surprised that so many people would turn up to see her play in a country where she had never been before, although it has to be said that us Brits were outnumbered by Americans by about 5 to 1 !!! I don't now how she would go down in a large venue. It seems to me that her music is custom made for a small club-type stage, unless she plays with her band in the future.Having heard a few live tapes recently,I much prefer her playing acoustic,so I really hope that this doesn't hold her back Finally,I seem to remember a topic of conversation a few months ago on how attractive Jewel was.Well, take it from me that she is drop-dead gorgeous.I spent the whole show standing 6 feet away from her and she walked right past me 4 times going to and from the stage. The glint in her eyes and the smile on her face could melt even the hardest man. She is playing in London again on 28th May,though I've probably left it too late to get a ticket now,but it won't stop me trying. - -- Richard P.S I'm sure that this question has been asked and answered before, but what is the story behind Jewel continually being asked to play "Freebird" and her not doing so.The guy who yelled it out tonight only succeeded in getting the "finger" from her !!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 21:56:37 -0400 From: Andrew Chandler Subject: Re: STORY OF NIKOS Does anyone know what this is supposed to mean? However, I disagree with how vehemently you describe your "hatred" for a band, simply because you don't like a song that they sing. About your comment about the fifth grade thing, I would watch what you say because there may very well be fifth graders on this list, or people with siblings in the 5th grade, or parents with children in the fifth grade... you get the picture. Why must you bring Marilyn Manson into this, they are about as different as a llama and a fish. There are a lot of people that like Hanson, as well as a lot of people that like Marilyn Manson, my friends included. Back to the 5th grade thing, are 5th graders not "allowed" to watch TV? When I was that age, I was watching MTV whenever I could get my hands on the remote control. People of all ages like music, and people like you are not the only people that watch MTV and listen to the radio. Obviously, the record company saw SOMETHING in Hanson that it liked, record companies won't sign a band if they don't think someone would like the music. I am the farthest thing from a fan of country, rap, or R&B music, but I'm not one to sit there and throw up if I don't like a song. If you don't like the song, change the channel. And please keep your hatred off this list. I'm sure I speak for each and every person on this list when I say that there is no place fo it here. Just one question for you: this list has been *kind of* calmer lately, with the flames and all, I was just wonderin, are you here because you like Jewel's Music, or are you here because you like to cause trouble? How would someone on this list liked to be told that they should be shot for liking Jewel. You know that they're are people out there who despise Jewel just as much as some do Hanson. It's important to realize that people are entitled to like who they like without being told they're stupid or something. It isn't fair to the people on this list like Hanson. I believe we went through the same thing with the Spice Girls last week. Why can't we all just get along? I agree that this list is about Jewel, and sometimes on this list certain subjects go farther than they should. I couldn't tell you what the heck an mmmbop is or what the song sounds like. If anyone DOES know what the heck it means, I'd be curious to find out. 2. Why do we constantly find reasons to HATE each other? As for my opinion on this argument, I quote Shakespeare: "I view the fight than thou that makest the fray." - William Shakespeare - The Merchant of Venice (Act III, Scene ii) BTW, the reasons for which most people flame privately is the same reason of which YOU complain, AL. It is because others just really don't care to read the messages of people flaming you. Hypocritical People Will One Day Rule The World!!! Anyways, I don't claim to have any Brass Cahones hidden away, but fair is fair. Bon Soir! Helooo! How masculine did YOU sound when you were 11, 13 or 16. Sheesh, give those poor little boys a break! THe're just trying to pay for college or something! Ok, you guys don't have to listen...but ....STOP! this Hanson stuff isn't gonna help anything, the list was doing so fine, and I mean I dislike Hanson, but I do believe people have a right to their opinion, I mean it's just like some may not like Jewel, it's their opinion, I'm not gonna go after them! Come on, not only is worrying who likes Hanson a waste, but it hurts the list! Please stop for list sake, look at it this way, look at the impression you will leave on the baby newbies! Are these people so HOMOPHOBIC as to warrant calling all enemies gay? I, myself, am heterosexual, but WHAT DOES IT MATTER if someone else prefers the company of the same sex? At least they are in touch with THEMSELVES. Sorry for the ventilation. BTW, Little Sh*ts are better than Big Sh*ts like those homophobes...... :) Straight, but Not Narrow, Terrence R. Regardless, I find the song to be hypnotic. Someone in passing said the name of the song, which I had never heard. I turned on MTV and I caught the last half of the song. I too thought the middle brother was a girl!!! Now I hear it everywhere!!! I see them everywhere!!! Has anyone heard any other songs off their album? I may get crap or lose some respect for this, but oh well. I like this song! I am fully aware that they are not as inspirational, talented, and creative as our Jewel, but the song makes me feel good. It's upbeat, and when I'm driving down the road and it comes on, I start doin' that little wiggly car dance thing we all do (don't deny it! everyone does it at some point, I'm sure of it!). : ) So it's not wildly original (yes, I realise this is an understatement) or thought-provoking; and yes, they are all really young and are most probably a one-hit-wonder. But for right now, the song makes me feel happy, and that's enough for me to be able to enjoy it for the short while it is being played. hugs, Becca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 22:36:43 -0500 From: Heath Landon Markley Subject: Quick Question... Hi all. I'm new to this list and just wanted to ask a quick question. I'm interested in getting copies of some of Jewel's stuff, but I don't have any recordings of my own to trade. Is there anyone who can help me? Please, if you can just email me privatly and let me know how to obtain these tapes. Thank you. Heath Markley ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 22:36:06 -0700 From: naveenrao@juno.com (Naveen Rao) Subject: NJC: this may prevent war... Dear Angels, In order to try and avert complete chaos again on this relatively peaceful list, I feel it is necessary to repost some very wise words of wisdom from one of the list veterans. If something bothers you enough that you feel the need to flame, here are a couple of things to keep in mind. 1. Is it really worth it? Do you really want to make someone, and possibly several people, angry? 2. Stay away from direct insults such as "idiot" or "stupid" or saying "you should be shot". Keep flames to the point, addressing the core problem, but please avoid the unnecessary insults which no one enjoys reading. 3. A sure-fire way to prevent war is to type a flame, and wait till the next morning. If you are still upset, then you might choose to flame. 4. Remember that there is a person at the other end of the e-mail address. In fact, there are over 1500 at the end of jewel@smoe.org and we don't enjoy reading brutal flames every morning. So if you must flame at all, do it privately, and nicely. 5. If this amount of flaming continues, we may no longer have this wonderful forum. Jeff Wasilko, the list manager, is in no way legally bound to keep this list going. It is not his job, and he can, at any time, discontinue this list. I think I speak for all of the EDAs when I say that this list is what I look forward to every day when I get home. Reading the mostly-happy posts always brightens my day. However, if this constant fighting continues, Jeff may decide that it would be better to pull the plug on the list. None of us could even imagine our lives without the great people in this family who have, directly and indirectly, made us better people. Please don't end this for all of us...we are, unfortunately, reaching the brink of disaster. Thanks you, my friends. Remember - we are, after all, Angels. =) Naveen naveenrao@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 23:53:37 -0400 (EDT) From: "Those Little Voices..."
