She was heard on a D.C. station by the producer of the show, and he sought her out and asked her to audition, sight unseen. Hallo, i'm relatively new to this list and i have an order out for the innerchange tapes and i'm REALLY desperate for any of the rare angels tapes-or any of her live stuff. I'm sorry too, in that i'm a newer fan- the last year or so and i haven't had a chance to get my hands on any live material so i wouldn't be able to trade or anything. If anyone can help me out i'd really appreciate it. Please privately email me if you can. thanks, jeff. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 May 1997 22:57:11 EDT From: sparksmark@juno.com (Sparks the Everyday Angel) Subject: About the sax solo Hi Angels, I've been hearing a lot of bad talk about the sax. I have to say that the sax is a beautiful sounding instrument, that when played correctly, can make songs sooo beautiful, even WWSYS. First, I have to say that the tenor was a bad decision. A lighter, less harsh-sounding sax, like the alto, or even the soprano could have been a better choice. Also, the sax player's ability was great! But it wasn't for that kind of song. He was playing very loud and playing way too fast. Maybe a more relaxed, slower, and softer sax solo would have been more appropriate. He was just way too out of control, I think. He was suppose to compliment Jewel's singing, and I felt he tried to grab too much attention. But I believe the song could sound really nice with a sax. You just have to have the right sax and play it differently than the way he did. Kenny G. plays the sax with such beauty and emotion. Much like Jewel sings her songs. I've been thinking how interesting it would be to have Jewel and Kenny G. do a song together. Kenny knows how to play and adjust to the mood of the song. Just my opinion, because I didn't see the sax to be so bad. Not as bad as some of you have made it out to be. Instead, I saw other alternatives to make it better and instead of saying, "The sax has to go.", I say there is a way to include the sax and make it work. =) Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. She's very down-to-earth and doesn't get caught up in the whole celebrity thing. She says many times, like the Hard Rock show, that some artists lose their sense of normalcy, and that she doesn't want that to happen to her. Two things stick out in my mind about the Rolling Stone article. One was how she never gave up. I pictured myself in her situation--no shower, no money, divorced parents, harassing bosses, etc., and I really really really admire her for enduring all that and still coming out better than ever. After reading the part about how the Hawaiian kids always hit her nearly everyday because she was white, and her being stuck there until she earned enough money to go back to San Diego, I felt really bad for her and a little ticked off at the Hawaiian kids that hit her. She's very couragous and I love her for that! Another thing was how she learned to play guitar even though she had to work 20 times harder because she was dyslexic. I am starting to learn the guitar, and Jewel is the main reason I am doing this. Jeez....if she can do all that being dyslexic, I *certainly* can do it myself! She gave me inspiration, and I think that's what most of us on this list share. She gives us inspiration! Mark - --- Inside my heart there's an empty room. So, I told them about Jewel and EDAs and sang "IGTBMTYDB" and "Who Will Save Your Soul?" but during the last verse of "Who Will Save Your Soul?", I forgot the lyrics because I once sang a different version of the song for a health show (it was about drinking and driving) and started singing those lyrics by mistake. But, I covered it up by doing this little "dowopshedada" until I remembered where I was. And, then I heard this. It freaked me out. I missed "Saturday Night Live". At 11:10, I remembered. At 11:20, I remembered. But, I stayed up to 2:00 doing other things. I had completely forgotten about SNL! Waaahhhh...
