I feel kind of faint now but inside I feel so good. Today I went and donated a pint of blood (in Jewel's name, you can get a card from the Blood Center) and was pleased to see how professional and friendly the staff was. I think they were all angels and all had big smiles on their faces, soothing voices. I was kind of nervous at first but they took me into a room and asked me a bunch of questions to make sure I was eligible and then after my blood was taken (a painless 5 minutes) I got a whole bunch of FREE FOOD! I felt so good lying in that chair thinking that I was saving a life and that I am doing my postive part in society. No this is a good idea in therory, but its really cool lets us make tapes. If we made CD's that would be really pushing it. Becasue what i one of those CD's got put into the wrong hands, and a small business of selling 30$ bootleg CD's come to pass and it is our fault! We cannot let that happen! Please, people tapes only! This is not a buisness, they are tapes for only us, yes with CD's it would be very easy to dub stuff and all that jazz but, itsthe struggle that makes them so cool! No CDS are bad! Danke, Casey ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 May 1997 11:42:23 -0400 (EDT) From: CornflkGl@aol.com Subject: NJC : Patty Griffin at The Bull Run last night Hi guys ! Here comes Rachel's slightly out of wack, not too accurate, skewed from my point of view review of the show last night :). I got to the Bull Run around 6:15. When I walked in, I explained that I was meeting some friends, and they immediatley pointed me towards a table by the wall. Yay, EDAs !! I sat down with AmyJo and Alan, and Adam Longfellow. It was nice to meet Adam, even though apparently I'd sat somewhere near him on the steps at JewelStock, I didn't remember him at all :). They were the only three INTELLIGENT ones of us all, as they all ordered appetizers. Soon thereafter, Jeff Wasilko showed up. I sat there quietly ( well, as quietly as I can possibly manage ), and let them talk shop. A bit later, we saw Ted & Tessa ( Tessia ? I can say it, but I can't spell it... ) Barbieri heading the other way, so Alan went and directed them towards us. Eventually, Phil J. Kelnhofer showed up with Chris Snyder and Albert ( instert last name here ). We FINALLY got our food arund 8ish. ( NOTE: the show got pushed back because Joe Kennedy was having a banquet in the concert room. Go figure. ) Luckily, Jeff was intelligent enough to ask them to save a table for us in the concert room, because the place was PACKED. We finished up eating, and to the cry of "You have to WAIT in LINE to get seated " by the woman in the huge line next to us, we ripped our tickets and sat down. Now a leetle eety beety round table doesn't fit 10 people happily.... but we somehow managed. The opening act was your standard middle-aged folk singer woman- her name was Bernice. Her best song was about King Tut, and said something about "you make one terrific heiroglyphic ( sp ? ) ". She sang a love song about a perfect relationship, which I have decided was written for a dog. FINALLY, Patty came on. Now, I don't have a good memory... I can't say specifically what songs she did or when, but let me say, she was AMAZING. Her voice is just as warm and thick and enveloping in real life as it is in the album, if not more. It's almost overpowering... She sang Moses, Every Little Bit, Mad Mission, Poor Man's House, Forgiveness, Sweet Lorraine, and Not Alone, along with a few "new" ones. She said Poor Man's House was written about her grandfather, although she'd never met him, she kid of felt like that was what his life was like. She said Swwet Lorriane was a true story about "No one in particular". She had a great little song about masturbation, with a line I love : "I'm keeping my dirty little wiggly fingers to myself". She also did a song about a friend who was moving away, so she totally poured her heart out in the song... and he stayed :). She said that she'd been mostly opening for people, so it was really nice not to have to do "an infomercial for my album". She said she drank bottled water, and she hated Poland Springs, even though she was from Maine. She had a song with a great line I wrote down : " I took off my iron smile because I found it weighed me down". After the show was over ( with one encore ) , Patty stuck around to sign autographs. I had asked the woman who was selling T-shirts if I could have a poster, and Patty's manager said I could tke the one off of the hallway, so I had that and a CD booklet to sign. I made the usual fool-of-myself-in-front-of-someone-I-hugely-admire, but I did tell her that we'd all seen her at JewelStock and that I'd be seeing her in Northampton next week. The EDAs hung around, bugging her for another 10 minutes or so, and then moved to the parking lot. Jeff gave me a ride to my parent's van in his demonic, red-glowing car that was parked allllll by itself over a scary covered bridge. After attempting to run over the 3 remaining EDAs in the parking lot, I started on my jorney home. It was VERY foggy on the way home. I really couldn't see 5 feet in front of me. I managed to make it home alive, despite getting lost once and ending up in a city ( there are CITIES out there ?? ) . Great night. Lots of fun. SOMEONE come see Patty next week at the Iron Horse with me !!! ( the 15th, thursday...) First, Jewel and Lenedra have asked EDAs not to transfer any of Jewel's music onto CD. if we do not abide by these wishes, we can be virtually assured of never gettin another Jewelstock or another authorised tape tree distribution. more importantly, we would flagrantly violating their wishes and unnecessarily ending a wonderful FRIENSDHIP with Jewel and Lenedra. not many other internet mailing lists are privileged with having direct contact and a wonderful relationship with the both the artist and her management. Second, Atlantic Records will probably take legal action against you for selling such recordings. Remember, this list is read by lots and lots of people. Atlantic Records does monitor the internet discussion lists about their artists, so they can stop any illegal activity and copyright violations. i beg all EDAs not to transfer Jewel's songs onto CD!!!! peace, dave *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher. They're way too easy for bootleg sellers to sell . We're allowed to do our "AngelFood" tapes, but only on the basis that we don't sell them, but give them to eachother. Lenedra specifically asked us not to do CDs. If we DO make CDs, we will no longer have the support of Jewel's team. All of the good (orchestra) seats were pre-sold out. The first person in line (who had been waiting an hour and 1/2) got terrace section seats. All of the $51.00 tickets were already sold; the $35.00 tickets were the only ones available for the first person in line. Unfortunatley, those who had an American Express Gold or Platinum card could get tickets beginning two days before the general public, on May 8, at a special ticketmaster charge line (213) 365-AMEX. I am pissed, because American Express and Lilith Fair did not notify anyone of this policy; you would have had to read tiny print at the bottom of a newspaper advertisement that didn't come out until Thursday morning. The combination of AMEX customers, plus Irvine Meadows subscription holders caused a sell-out of all the decent seats BEFORE THEY WERE EVEN AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE ELSE! On a good note, I was able to score good (front row-center) seats for the Wallflowers and Fiona Apple June 27th at Santa Barbara County Bowl; and a good (orchestra center) seat for the Further Festival (Grateful Dead) August 3rd in Irvine. Anyone want to go? However, as for Lilith Fair I will be going to a ticket broker and paying ridiculous prices unless someone on this list has some for me. The NORCAL Shoreline July 8 Lilith Fair tickets are a Bass (not Ticketmaster) event. The tickets haven't gone on sale yet. I hope there is a better sale policy than at Irivine. You have to be registered on there. then we can get a jewel chat room. Last night, at The Bull Run in Shirley MA, quite a bit of new material surfaced--all of it amazing! It definately surpassed her amazing Jewelstock set. The new material is equally as powerful as anything on her 1st album (my personal favorite 1996 release). She's touring extensively right now as a headline (finally) & I highly recommend taking in a show. Tickets, I believe, are on sale (for at leaste Nashville) are through ticket master. WKDF will have NO info about Lilith Fair, it's a hard rock radio station. Nashville stations WRLT (lightening 100) is the station the will most likely have the information about the show in Nashville... or possbily (I don't know the call letters) Thunder 94 might have info also... hope that helps... I was just watching some T.V. when I turned into MuchMusic. The Weekend edition of R.S.V.P. was on. someone send in a letter R.S.V.P. request for Jewel's YWMFM video. But instead of playing the regular new version with Steve, they played the Sean Penn version instead (the one in the movie theater). Well for all of those that have access to Much Music. It was shown here in the Toronto Ontario area at 5:45 pm, and that is 45 minutes into the show (right after the spice girls video to be more specific ). R.S.V.P. is repeated on sunday morning at 11:00 am. So expect to see the video around 11:40 am, maybe even a couple of minutes early. later Wojtek Kowalewski wojtekk@spanit.com Wojtek Kowalewski wojtekk@spanit.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 May 1997 17:55:21 -0400 From: "Wojtek Kowalewski" Subject: NJC: Need Rugburns advice Hi I know that there are a lot of Rugburns fans out there. And you have no idea how crazy I get when I cant listen to Jewel in my car? Cd's are the same thing as tapes, they just cost more to buy? If someone did want to make a profit of of it, I dont see why it would be any different than making a profit off of tapes?? i dont want to be rude or anything, I'm just a bit ignorant when it comes to this stuff. love, tali ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #347 ***************************
