So not only do you get to see the Jewel show, but some other nice ones too, One of wich is Fiona Apple (YES!!!). MTV news gave a list of all the one that where gonna air that week but I just remeber Jewel and Fiona. I agree totally with what you said about the Spice Girls. Especially about getting by on their looks only. That is how Madonna got where she is today. She slept with all of the right people. Jewel actually uses her voice and plays the guitar. The Spice Girls just wear revealing clothes and bounce everything around while dancing to cheap synthesized music. Thanx 4 sharing your thoughts. As an English tutor, I've found that almost everybody wants to write about everything. But it's usually better to (actually, its always better) to focus on ONE thing for a, let's say, 5 page paper. Or ten. Maybe two subjects for twenty pages. If you're going to do four, maybe you should put that off for a senior thesis (think 50 pages). So Steve, unless your teacher/professor explicitly said four points, why don't you just pick one. Even if he/she said four points, you could bring out four different songs in that area. Or, even better (the best) four points from one song. But I don't know for sure because I'm not exactly sure of the nature of your assignment. I might be completely off base. Just two years of tutoring and a B.A. in English has given me a good clue as to what professors expect (like I said, a clue, not a certainty. Best to always discuss with teacher/professor first) Jules ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 May 1997 15:44:49 -0400 (EDT) From: Words and Guitar Subject: JC: Jewel in new SPIN The new issue of SPIN with Shirley Manson on the cover has a review of Jewel's show at Roseland, along with a Sheryl Crow review, and photos of each. I just subscribed to this list yesterday, and got the following instructions: ================== There is a news ONLY list. No posting or discussing. This will include such things as media appearances, tours, lyrics, and reviews. To subscribe to the news list send e-mail to: jewel-news-request@smoe.org with "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" in the body, not the subject line. ================== I don't mean to piss on anyone's social group, but does everyone on _this_ list need a carbon copy of messages like this (and this isn't the first of many just today). Don't worry, I will go away after this message so you all can carry on, but it strikes me that I've gotten between 15-20 messages from this list today, and only one or two had any useful information having to do with the stated intent of this group. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it's getting to the point on the net where you have to wade through 95% irrelevant or complete b.s. messages / web links to get to the 5% of the useful info you are seeking. I know a lot of people, even friends of mine at school and family think "geez, it's just a freakin' mailing list!" And they probably wonder why I talk about you guys all the time. But the truth is that since last November, I have become a part of a group that I really have come to love. Of course, it would be pretty much impossible to get to know each and every member of this list on a personal basis, but those of you whom I have written to and become friends with, thank you. And for those of you who have been there for me when I needed some advice or someone to talk to, thank you. I am really going to miss this list. I am unsubscribing because I am leaving school for the semester to go home for a month, then get married and be off to NC. I *may* have e-mail at home, then again I may not. My dad has an email account that he will let me use, but I don't know if he will let me be a part of the list itself, which I will miss despite the 149 posts per day. :) I will be trying after the wedding to save up for a computer, but it will take awhile as we have other financial concerns that are more pressing right now. But please, angels, please keep close and love each other. Take care of each other so that down the road when I finally get a computer and internet access, there will be a list to come back to, and it will still be as warm and welcoming as the memories I cherish of it. I love you all and will miss my family of angels dearly. Following is my temporary e-mail, and the permanent snail mail where I can be reached. It may sound corny or sappy, but when I sign off this time, it's with a tear (or more) in my eye(s). Love always, Becca xo The e-mail where I can be reached from now until June 8th: omniventuresinc@juno.com (please put "for Becca" in the subject, so my dad will know it's for me) My snail mail for after I get married on June 8th (this is permanent): Rebecca Ann O'Meara 5153 Gumbranch Rd. And there is a 2 page article about Jewel in there with the 2 pictures, 1 from Rolling Stone and the other is her sittin up in a tree, not too great of an article but it was free so hey I got a deal. (which, since you seem intent on directions, is explained right above the directions you quoted. If you notice, what you quoted is the alternative to the digest). If you don't want to discuss, sign up for jewel-news-request@smoe.org. If you did and you accidentally got stuck with us, I am sorry for this somewhat ascerbic message. This is a discussion group for fans of Jewel, but not necessarily limited to Jewel. Jules P.S. Hey everybody, I finally learned how to quote :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 May 1997 20:00:22 -0400 From: julie Subject: ATT Becca Wang and book suggestors sorry to post this to the list everybody, but Becca, I lost your address. Thankyou for the tape. Just got it today :) You are too sweet. I think "Tiny Love Spaces" is my favorite. And the Rugburns were great too. And everyone who suggested a book, thanks for the input. James, I think you and I have similar minds. I picked Like Water for Chocolate first, just finished 3 hours ago and loved it. I wish I could have read it in Spanish. Lived in Miami my whole life, get mistaken for spanish all the time, but still haven't learned it. I never thought about reading books by season though. Austen I read year-round (I've read Pride and Prejudice at least three times a year since I was 11) and the first time I read Dostoyevsky was summer.
