We got there late so we only got to go on 4 rides. The last ride we went on was called the Eagle and the park was about to close in about 5 min. so the line was practicly empty. At about the same time as us 5 people some a little younger some a little older decided to get in the line also, they got in the line behind us and we didn't feel like walking but the people behind us did. On of the boys that was behind us go ahead of me but when he tried to run ahead of Becky and Amy, Amy cut him off and he ran into the pole that was about to separate the line. Guess where the pole hit him? I think it was painful to him and we felt sorry until he caught up with us again and we heard f*cking preppys. Now just thinking about it is hilarious. The moral of this story is 1, don't cut in line because painful things could happen to you. And 2 if someone trys to get ahead of you cut them off right in front a pole. ~*Chrissy*~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 May 1997 21:32:40 +0100 From: Myles MacRae Subject: Jewel On UK Radio Your probably getting really sick of these sightings but anyway.... :) Jewel was on Capital FM this afternoon. Capital is the most listened to station in Greater London adn is the most successful independent station in the country. They played WWSYS and the DJ, Martin Collins, said how great her voice was and made sure everyone remembered her name. Well there you go. With coverage like that, she will be a hit in no time. - -- - ----------------------------------------------------- Myles MacRae - Imperial College London - ISE 1st Year mgm1@doc.ic.ac.uk - m.macrae@doc.ic.ac.uk - ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 May 1997 16:34:32 -0400 (EDT) From: EFraser311@aol.com Subject: NJC: Scranton EDA Gathering Hello angels... Plans for the gathering in Scranton are underway! Crunch has handed me the responsibility of organizing the Scranton EDA gathering, and so far, I have heard from Tom, Christina (and her roommate), Kathy, and Bill P. I know there are a lot more of you out there, so please get back to me about coming! And this obviously is not limited to the EDA's from PA, so any NY or NJ EDA's want to come? You all should try, it is going to be a lot of fun! :-) It looks like Tom has communicated with a few that I might not have (Josh and Stephanie), and some of us that are south of Scranton are meeting in Harrisburg (where I live) and driving up together. So far it looks like Tom and I are the ones that are definitely driving. :-) My personal thoughts--I wonder if there would be a way to get backstage and meet Jewel--this is going to be my first time seeing her in concert, and I know I am not the only one who would love to meet her!! Hmmm...maybe we'll find a way! :-) More info will be arising over the next couple weeks. The ones who have contacted me, please keep in touch, and the ones who haven't contacted me, please do so! We should try to get as many as we can to go, since we have such a good amount of EDA's in the area! Talk to you all soon! :-) fellow EDA, Ali :-) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 May 1997 21:37:03 +0100 From: Myles MacRae Subject: Garage Gig Sorry for two posts but I was just curious to know what happened about the Garage Gig on the 2nd. Jessica ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 May 1997 13:55:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Willcourt Subject: SJC: Jewel's Astrology With all this talk about Jewel's birthday I thought I'd contribute something. A few months ago my parents bought a book describing people based on their birthdays, and here's what it says about May 23rd people: Those born on May 23rd are highly capable when it comes to transmitting their energy, emotions, and ideas to other. Although their manner can be light or electric, their sex appeal is distinctly earthy. It is difficult to ignor those born on this day, as they radiate something that demands attention, usually in a positive but markedly seductive way. May 23rd people rarely seek stardom, and are happy to take part in group endeavors. Their distinctly mental outlook balances well with their sensuality; they are both body-and-mind-oriented. Creative activities involving art or music may be relaxing as a hobby for May 23rd people who are enegaged in scientific or technichal work during the day. Clever with their hands, they may enjoy making everything from simple toys to clothes to canoes in their spare time. Those born on this day are happiest when their horizons are expanding and changing; otherwise, they start feeling trapped and hemmed in. Also, it is best if they do not spend too much time alone. May 23rd people have strong social needs. It has some more stuff, but that's basically it. I thought you all may find it interesting, I did. Lets start off with the most important, free food! Ok, ok...maybe it wasn't the 'most important' but it still was pretty damn good! I woke up early sunday morning and my 'sponge detector' was telling me to go to San Diego because free food awaits, I didn't know what to expect but I jumped in my car, then jumped out again to charge the damn battery, jumped back in, and hauled ass to San Diego. On the way I counted 11 Denny's. When I got there, sure enough my Sponge Detector was right, this place called Einstein's Bagels was giving out free bagel sandwiches and soda (cuz Rolling Rock tastes like crap, sorry 'burnouts). Must've been some sorta weird coincidence, because here I've driven over 120 miles (not counting Sinjin's required wrong turn waaaay outta the way) and for some reason here were other EDA's! They must've detected the free food and took advantage of it as well. There was Larry, Curly, Moe, Igor, Frankenstein, Tom, Nancy, Eric, Eric, Jerome, Gerald :), Jamie, and this pretty cool guy named James. Seems the whole party was thrown for James to help him raise money to buy a van. I talked with James for a little while, he seems like a laid back guy and sounds like he likes to have fun. I even heard him talking about how he's going to celebrate his 21'st birthday going bar-hopping with his friends. I'm sure he can out drink me anyday! Well after I ate my bagel, Larry and Igor presented James with the $$$ that we raised and the owner of the bagel place gave James some $$ money raised during other promotions, including a benefit put on by the San Diego Chargers cheerleaders (damn, I missed this one!). James was touched by the display of love from his friend and co-workers as well as us EDA's who he's never even met before. He didn't want a big spectacle, so it was a fairly small ceremony, we got some pictures of James and his family and Larry holding up an EDA poster (which you can still buy and $1 will be donated to the JPK Fund...*shameless plug*). Dennis Harris (tm) also made up some Jewelstock pins and gave them to James, and a Jewelstock T-shirt was also donated. After the party was over, we sat there for a couple hours waiting for Igor to finish talking...that never happened. So we convinced him to finish his stories at his place and we all jumped into our cars to follow Igor home. I then jumped out of my car again to recharge the battery (I was starting to get really annoyed at this point). We followed Igor to his house...no, his Compound. I swear, this place kicks donkey! His house is awesome! It's got a pool table, a pool with a waterfall, a spa, a soon-to-be-developed sand volleyball court, and a thatch-roof hut! It was worth listening to Igor all day just to visit this place, once he gets that v-ball court finished I gotta go visit and prolly won't leave ;) Hell, if I ever get a date (cha-right!) I'll just take her to the Igor Compound for the day! For those who bailed out and didn't follow Igor to his home, you really missed out on a great time! We shot some pool (you gotta see my pool cue, it's reminds me of Jewel's Big Blue guitar...uh, except it doesn't have any strings), swam in the pool, polished down some smoothies, ate an excellent BBQ chicken dinner (TWO free meals in one day, damn I'm good!), and jumped into the spa where we came up with the plans for what sounds like an awesome EDA gathering that should take place during the Lilith Fair California stops, we call it OPERATION: FAIR PLAY. I can't go into details right now, but trust me: Try to clear up your calender for the week of 7-7 (we're going to try to coincide OPERATION: FAIR PLAY with Jewel's CA shows in the Lilith Fair)...it'll be well worth it. After our "Ultra Top Secret Elite EDA Meeting" (which required a secret handshake to get into) Igor, Jerome, and I got out of the pool and once again charged my battery for the drive home. In the words of Ice Cube "Today was a good day." Here's a 'secret encoded message' for us "Ultra Top Secret Elite EDA's" about the upcoming OPERATION: FAIR PLAY. There have been rumors that there will be a Jewel track on the Batman & Robin Soundtrack this summer, along with another Clueless Soundtrack, possibly with "All By Myself." The new album from Jewel, although subject to change, is targeted for early 1998. Jewel will re-mix and shoot a video for the next single, "Foolish Games" sometime in June. ChartWatch: "You Were Meant For Me" checked in at #2 on Billboard, #1 on Caseys', #12 on the Internet 50, #1 on Rick Dee's Top 40, #1 on VH1 and #1 on BOTH of R&R's charts. "Pieces of You" came in at #7 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and #9 on Internet Votes. Other radio stats had YWMFM played over 3200 times across the country. This is called witchcraft, plain and > simple. I know some people who would have a problem with you calling this witchcraft, because witchcraft has gotten a bum rap. This is NOT witchcraft, and I personally think it rather ignorant of you to call it that. It's superstition. Witchcraft, also known as Wicca, has been discussed extensively on this list, and is a positive, viable Earth religion, not a hex-party for a bunch of green-skinned cackling old biddies. Just so people know, I don't agree with chain letters either, because of the fact that they are superstition and I think there are more important things to put our faith in. I'm not trying to criticize or anything, though I think it probably comes across that way. I'm just tired of people giving witchcraft an undeserved bad name. Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! This is called witchcraft, > plain and simple. I agree with what you initially say about chain letters -- they are innappropriate on a listserv, but I must take offence with your last statement. You say that chainletters, as a form of blessing those who abide by them and cursing those who don't, is a form of witchcraft. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your use of the word, but do you mean that wicca is evil? I'm new to this list and I don't know the attitude of people towards other religions yet, but I woud hope that this space would foster an understanding and warm atmosphere to any religion. Am I mistaken? AdamPOJ advised: > The Rollingstone issue with Jewel is on newsstands now and is stirring a > few questions. If you ever wish to question unconfirmed journalism, simply > don't buy the magazine and write the editor. This is ridiculous. If you are accusing the journalist of making assumptions in the article, then it is questionable to respond by doing the same. If you want to question unconfirmed journalism, don't do so because of however many people who have told you it's unconfirmed -- that creates a sheep mentality that the press has been guilty of countless times. Don't fall into that trap, too. Read it, and see these examples of unconfirmed journalism for yourself, *then* write them and you can intelligently tell them exactly what was mistaken. > > From: BORKMAN437@aol.com said: > I've been hearing a disturbing rumor lately that says that some of the Spice > girls are transsexuals. Actually, a 'transsexual' is someone who feels they were born with the wrong gender and is waiting for an operation to correct that. Also, transgenderism has nothing to do with sexuiality, only gender, so it wouldn't necessarily offend your heterosexual sensibilities. So, if this woman was transsexual, she would feel she is a man in a woman's body. This has nothing to do with sexuality. She could be attracted to men, or to women, or to both. So, if you're straight, you can still like her until the sex change.
