Hmmm... Right now, besides myself, four others have "done the deed," bringing the total to FIVE PINTS. I'd like to thank the following EDAs for their participation: 1) Mark "Crunch" Nissley 2) Amelia "Mia" Vlah 3) Adam Spiegel 4) Alan Bershaw (Mr. BB!) Funny thing is, these are east coast angels (for the most part). Are you southern, northern, western and central EDAs anemic or something? If so, we need to start shipping these guys vitamins and iron supplements with their "angelfood" tapes! I know some folks have problems due to weight, age or having tattoos/piercings recently, but c'mon... let's see more volunteers -- it really is a great feeling to donate! Thanks angels, and those that can and want to donate, please do so soon! - -- Dennis, keeper of the blood scrolls of EDA generosity FOLLOWING IS THE ORIGINAL BLOOD DRIVE POST: There have been many excellent suggestions as what to do for Jewel's upcoming birthday. Guitar picks, original poetry, donations -- all great ideas, but as Mike Connell posted earlier, Jewel routinely requests that gifts NOT be given to her, but for her angels instead to help one another - -- and others -- in typical EDA fashion. While these other cool projects are also underway, there are two that seem to fulfill Jewel's wishes: list support for a worthy cause that Jewel has recently endorsed (the JPK Drive), and another project I'd like to announce right now. You know, a large part of being an EDA is not only talking the talk, but "walking the walk". We support each other, and enjoy each other's company immensely (if you haven't yet, you will one day!). Being an EveryDay Angel also means helping your fellow human beings, in every way possible. And while some of us may not have the finances to support a donation program, we all have something that is precious to over three million folks in the United States every year -- blood plasma. What could be more personal and giving of one's self than donating blood so that others may live? Talk about the ultimate in giving yourself to others! You actually become part of another human being. Think about that concept for a minute... And on the practical side, it certainly fits the suggestion that we should find something that anyone can participate in (and afford)! ;-) So, here's an EDA challenge for the entire list: Donate a unit of blood to your local blood bank between now and Jewel's birthday (May 23rd), and watch your aura glow two full levels brighter (guaranteed or your blood back in a cup)! Then forward me your name and location, and if you want, your photo. I'll add donors names and photos to a very special birthday card for Jewel and see that she personally gets it upon her return from Europe. I imagine this will simply again confirm what she already knows about her EDAs: we are indeed SPECIAL SOULS WHO GET THE POINT OF HER MESSAGE! :-) Every three seconds someone needs blood. Approximately 40,000 units (pints) of blood are required each and every day in the United States. Your donation gives an opportunity for survival to accident, burn and cancer patients. Now this might be a total stranger you save. It might be a friend, family member or another EDA. It might even be yourself! Annually, over 12 million units of blood are donated to benefit over 3.6 million patients. And certain types of blood supplies routinely run dangerously low. Frozen plasma lasts a year. Refrigerated blood has a shelf life of 42 days. Some blood components last only a week. You can routinely safely donate a pint of whole blood every eight weeks. But you've got to donate that first pint to get started! And you'd be surprised at how good it feels, knowing that you're unselfishly making a difference. I mistakenly thought for a long time that a blood sugar condition prevented me from giving blood, until I discovered it was only the lead in my *ss that prevented me from giving blood! ;-) Now, I've met over 300 of ya'll face to face over the past year, and I expect to hear from all of you. For the 600 I have yet to meet, I'd love to add your names to this project. Let's do it! It's the most personal donation anyone can make. And here's the Harris tip of the day: if you're smart, you can get free cookies, orange juice and a sandwich as well from the blood bank (which saves on your food bill)...which enables you to save up for the next EDA gathering, making you happier, healthier and wise(r)...which creates MORE blood to donate...which...well, you get the picture! More information on blood donation and a listing of nationwide centers is available at the web site: http://www.americasblood.org Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions! And thanks for considering participation in this drive. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 May 1997 03:39:18 -0700 From: howenow@imagen.net (Adrian Duplessis) Subject: what's happening with Jewel's EDA guitar picks?? Here's a quick follow-up on my own personal blood donation experience: Three days after donating blood, I received two complimentary tickets to the Providence Bruins final home game with the Worcester Ice Cats. Of course, if there's any sport that should support blood donation, it's hockey! =) Me and a buddy had a heck of a good time (we moved down to the rinkside seats, of course)... At the next EDA event, ask me where we got the six dozen helium balloons at 1:30 pm, and where the balloons ended up! =) Then, two days later, I received two more complimentary tickets for a Pawtucket Red Sox game, which I gave to another friend who loves baseball. Plus I got coupons for free sandwiches, bread and milk at local restaurants and stores. Way cool... and totally unexpected. The point is, you do for others and expect nothing, and the universe will provide for you. What was I told yesterday? Oh yeah... ASK THE QUESTION AND THE UNIVERSE WILL ANSWER. Never underestimate the power of oneness, angels. We are divided and taught to be stand apart from each other at an early age, and it seems to take us the rest of our lives to re-connect with each other. This sure seems like a good way to start reconnecting to me... - -- Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 May 1997 02:30:39 -0400 (EDT) From: EDAngel1@aol.com Subject: NJC: I almost had a heart attack!!!! Hello EDAs, If you are in a hurry then just read the last paragraph! :) I've been having a rather rough time lately. My parents just recently got a divorce after 20 years of marriage. I don't think I'll ever get into Law school... So I just am feelling rather crummy lately! I listen to Jewel every night as a form of therapy! :) She gives me hope that tomorrow will be a little better. Well, last week has been pretty crazy around my apartment with phone calls and everything. My roommate's bestfriend is manic depressive. She sees a psychiatrist and takes anti-depressant pills. A couple of days ago she dropped out of college and had a rough break up with her boyfriend. She is very ill and the doctors made her take an HIV test. She might have to pay for a STUPID mistake that she did 4 years ago. The last couple of days she has spent in "lock down". That's where they can legally keep you for 72 hours to prevent you from killing yourself. Anyways, my point is that things have been pretty bad around here. Tonight when I logged on the first post I had had the subject "JEWEL'S DEAD"!!!!!! It turned out to be the person's fish, named Jewel, who died. I just wanted to say that I nearly had a heart attack when I read that subject heading. No offense to the author of that post but couldn't you just say that "MY FISH's DEAD"? :) I think I may have started crying. I don't know, I can't remember anymore. In case you were wondering I have no point to my story! I just wanted to get some of it out of my system so that I wouldn't have a nervious breakdown! So half of "RTR" & all of "Grey Matter" was completely missing, along with the "Damn the Harris Brothers" comment. So.....This gets complicated, but what I did was this: Utilizing the videos, I first had to make a new audio master tape (of the missing 10 minutes) using the audio from the right camera into the right channel & the left camera into the left channel. I had to get both video tapes in perfect synch & this gave me a decent stereo audio of that missing sequence.I processed that recording to get rid of most of the hiss & video noise on it. After getting it as good sounding as possible,I edited it in so that nothing was missing. I realized after doing that final edit, that I had the talk back microphone on in the studio. So you can hear AmyJo & I laughing while watching the videos on the monitors. But the edit was so perfect,(and doubting my ability to do it again,) I left it alone. For all those people who were looking for the YWMFM video directed by Sean Penn, I just wanted you to know that I saw it today on VH1. You should keep your eye out for it, because I've noticed that they seem to rotate the three videos. I don't know how often they play this one, since this is only the second time I've seen it. I hope this helps some of you! :) ************************ * In God, we trust * * In Jewel, we believe * ************************ -Darryl ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 May 1997 14:21:57 -0400 (EDT) From: She Who Is Subject: NJC: still religion, specifically, the ten commandments > One of the Ten Commandments DOES state "Thou shalt not kill" Actually, my Religion professor, who is a pastor, told us that the original bible (if there IS such a thing as 'the original bible') said, "Thou shalt not kill *another Hebrew*." Otherwise, how do you think the Hebrews got away with killing all those Babylonians, and whoever else? What about that time God told them to kill EVERYONE in the town they had conquered and destroy all the stuff? How do you think the church condoned holy wars? Bless and Be Blessed; spread the Love! Subject: NJC: I'm back well, after a lengthy sojourn to write oodles of fun, and way too long final papers for my classes, I'm conscious again. I'm glad I wasn't here for the firestorm that ensued earlier this week, but it's been pretty smooth sailing since then, and I'd like to commend all of the EDAs for being nice lately. Maybe they just got it our of their systems for a while... Anyway, I'd like to start getting the midwestern EDAs mobilized for Lilith fair, time catches up with us too quickly. I'm probably going to the Chicago and Deer Creek shows, and would like to get everyone together for some happy camping. Tickets don't go on sale until the end of may and the beginning of June, so don't get all antsy just yet. But, get organized. As always, I'd also like to remind everyone that this list is read by lots of people, and if you're sending something addressing one person, just send it straight to them! They'll appreciate getting mail, and not having to root through all the jewel lists to find it, and everyone else will be happy too. If you want people to read it, then send it to the list. We like hearing from everyone. Just be nice. :) tim gavin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 May 1997 16:46:18 -0500 (CDT) From: "Tim Gavin, The only true paranormal of the Fu Sheng beaver." Another thing that suprised me is that I didn't know it was common to hitchhike in Homer. Question: In the article (I don't have it in front of me) the reporter was calling her mom Nendra or something like that is that her bio mom or adopted mom because I belive her mother is Lendra.
