Sorry to post this to the entire list, there is really nothing Jewel related about this, but I hope you'll continue to read this anyway. A couple of months back, I replied to a message about some of my photographs which were out there on the web. And to those people who were so kind as to lend me their thoughts about it, I promised I'd announce when the second site was up. Well, it's FINALLY up, and again, I would like to get as much feedback from people as possible. Again, for those of you who couldn't give a sh*t about art, I appologize. I only have the best of intentions in sharing a part of myself with all of you, and to give you all a little idea of how I work. Likewise, Jewel herself has stated that "too often our dreams and passions become our hobbies," and with that in mind, how many times does one get the oppotunity to sit at the top of their dreams. Which I think the latter is probably THE meaning of ironic, at least for me anyway; since if you would have told me three years ago, that today, I would be a Fine Arts major and I would be where I'm at today, I would have said you were crazy! So, for those of you out there who care, the site is at: http://www.nets.com/sfworkshop/contest.html or for those of you in the Santa Fe area: you can see it in person at the showing from April 11 - May 14 in the Santa Fe Picture Gallery Again, all criticism about my work is welcome, both good and bad. But if you can please tell me more than it Sucks, or it's Awesome. I realize everyone isn't going to be able to interpret its' underlying meanings or understand things like, it's more about theories of being conceptual or that it refers to an analysis as to what we as photographic artists consider to be photogenic, etc. etc. But tell me why you like it or hate it, what makes it work. Because in reality, there are many interpretations about what some of my work is saying, and that is what I feel makes art, "Art." I think that everyone has their own perceptions and it's that uniqueness that makes it such a personal experience to us all. Oh boy, I'm getting too philosophical here ;) I'll quit now. Any questions you may have are also welcome. Thanks guys, I appreciate your thoughts and interests, and look at some of the other peoples' stuff too. Hi there, Jewel has just made what I think is her first appearance on UK terrestrial TV. It was on 'This Morning with Richard & Judy' (For the non-uk EDA's, This Morning is a daytime, magazine program mainly about cooking, gardening, fashion... that type of thing). It caught me completely off guard when they announced Jewel Kilcher would be appearing after the break. When she did come on, she was as charming as ever. She answered a few questions about where she came from and her rise to fame in the USA. Richard & Judy are famous for never letting their guests get a word in. They implied that she was poor and homeless and that Jewel just shot to fame. Jewel had to correct them at every stage pointing out that the album has been out for 3 years and she's been playing in public since she was 8 years old. She then went on to perform WWSYS live, acoustic and solo in the studio as the final item. It was a great performance. It caught me by surprise so I only managed to get one screen capture of the performance (E-mail me if you want a copy). I would have liked to record it all but I was just too late. Does anyone know what furthur UK TV appearances she will be making over the next few weeks? I will endeavor the get some screen grabs of them and make up some realaudio clips of it all (I might be able to get some PAL video of them if I have enough warning). Bill & Carrie Dallner And, Lilith fair, with Jewel, will (most likely) be hitting chicago Aug 9. Now, none of these dates are completely confirmed by the Lilith fair high-ups, but they've been set by Jewel management, so they're rather assured. Tickets don't go on sale for a little while, and dates will be confirmed eventually. The Lilith fair people have lots of work on their hands, give 'em some slack. I just wanted to write and tell everyone how totally for it I am. The story really touched me, in particular because it could have happened to any one of us on any given night. Justice still isn't there for James, think about it; he didn't do anything wrong, and yet he's paraplegic for life, something that noone deserves to go through. I don't make a salary, and have only a little saved up, but I know that James needs this money, no matter how small, more than I do. It just makes me feel good to help in any small way I can, and the fact that Jewel supports his cause, and it's done on behalf of her birthday just makes it that much better. I just thought I'd share my views with all the Angels out there, cause I think that it's cases like this one that prove why we need Everyday Angels outthere, I hope you all agree. (Of course, Jewel's voice is SO much > nicer). Joey's voice needs some work, especially if in the film, she was supposed to have treated her bandmates in the past with "throaty renditions of Debbie Gibson tunes." :-) But Angels, Only one thing before I go: Go see the movie. I'd just like to say that the media, like any other business genre, is in the game for the money. They're going to take out of a story what they think the majority of their readers would like to hear. Now, I'm not saying the media distorts information and lies, just take everything with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, people believe too much of what they read... this is how we get terribly misinformed people. Well, that's just my opinion. That and two quarters will get you a cup of coffee. I totally agree w/ this!!! Billy Corgan is one of the best lyricists and musicians of all time! Don't judge them and say "oh they suck" just because you've heard a couple of their songs on the radio. The songs they release as singles are good, but nowhere near as good as the rest of their music!!!!! So I'm suggesting that everyone give the pumpkins a chance. :) They are one of the few exeptions to all the crap you hear on the radio these days. *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Apr 1997 18:37:22 -0400 From: Rael Subject: Re: NJC: Tara, Cindy, Elizabeth, Paula > James McGarry wrote: >Paula Cole is on Warner Bros. her debut release is _This_Fire_ The WB >sight has some neato clips... ...she also has a CD single of the first >single "Where have all the Cowboys Gone" >http://www.wbr.com/paulacole/ > I just wanted to correct that THIS FIRE is Paula's second release.
