I look at the clock, it's 3:00 a.m. I've been online for way too long. I keep wanting to start a Jewelaholics Anonymous, but noone will help me. Charter gave up on me when they read this little poem/short story...do you think I'm crazy? (Some of you have already read this so...disregard it) This was inspired by Jewel (not really, but I didn't want to put NJC, next time I will, I promise!) (Read with a Scottish accent) The Trap~ "So, we were roaming around the kitchen cabinets the other day, we snacked on some sugar that was layin' around. You know, just having a harmless good time. Charlie got a piece of pepper and couldn't stop snezzing, it was pretty funny. We climbed down the wall to the cabinets on the floor. Picken's are pretty slim this time of year. There have been an increase in our numbers lately, it's been good to see the family though. (This is where the story takes a turn for the worse.) Okay, so here we are, right?~ getting a little high off an open bottle of amonia, it was great...I had been off smack for a while: tryin' to quit, but you can't quit when you life is as bad as this. Anyway...the buzz was coming along great, everyone was lovin' it when all of the sudden we smelled this aroma; no, it was more than just an aroma, it was a tangible state of euphoria...we could taste it, feel it. At first we thought it was just the effects of the amonia, you know, we thought it was laced or something. But then Paul started to walk near the dark corner of the cabinet. He floated more than walked, it was pretty spooky--everyone just watched him. We didn't know any better! It was all confusing! The smell! Oh, the smell: it reminded me of fresh garbage in the summer time. I started to drift away...wait! There goes Billy too, and Andy! Where are they going! I snapped out of it. I had to be the leader; I had to herd everyone away from the corner. I was successful, only a few had gone in. We waited for what seemed like days. Nothin'. Not a sound or movement. We all feared the worse. This was something we had never encountered. We didn't find out what had happened until a few days later. Someone had left the cabinet door open and the entire cabinet was lit up. At first we did not dare scamper out in the open; many said it was all a trick to get us to come out. But I had to know what had happened to my mates. So me and a few others ventured out into the open light. We began to get close, and could already begin to smell the same aroma. But this time it was different, and we all new what it was: it was the smell of death, not easily mistaken. As we reached the once darkened corner of mystery we saw a large, black...hole is what it looked like. No words can descibe the ungodly horror we all experienced within the next passing moments. Twenty or thirty of 'em lay stretched out at the doors of this black gate to hell. There they were, they were our brothers, our sisters, our mates, us-- or at least it could, and probably should, have been. They were all dead: mangled, faces half eaten off, wings broken in evident effort to fly away, but it had been too late. Most of us shreaked back, but none of us went any further. How horrible to be lead to death by that sweet smell of desire. They didn't deserve to die, they were good men: friends, family. The worst day of my life. WHY GOD, OH WHY DID YOU MAKE HUMANS?!!?" Everyday thousands of cockroaches loose their lives in roach motels similar to the one depicted in this story. Since their inception, these inexpensive, portable, modern day gas chambers have claimed the lives of over 1 billion roaches. This should not be allowed to continue. Help join the fight against the producers of these "motels of hell" with your donation of $100 or more, in hopes that one day, we will all live in harmony without the threat of following after a beautiful smell, only to have you nose, lungs and half of your body eaten off by the substance of your desire. You can make a difference. Cockroaches are humans too. Hey, nobody said life was always serious! :-) MIKE ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Apr 1997 00:34:22 -0700 From: Phenom Subject: Bit of Jewel in Details Hello all, I was fumbling through my May issue of Details magazine when I came across the review section. All of the HTML editors I've experimented with use tags that are somewhat sloppy and non-standard. As a result from time to time, the page doesn't quite load quite right- sometimes making the code virtually un-edittable from the actual server location on a unix or vms machine by nature of soft vs. hard carriage returns. In other words- so long as you stick with Pagemill exclusively for all your HTML editting, things will be ok about 85% of the time- all in all the best odds so far for all the HTML editors available for the Mac. I give a solid thumbs down to MS Word and Wordperfect as HTML editors. Claris homepage is a shakey thumbs up. Pagemill is a thumbs up. But understand HTML well enough to know how to manually fix the code if your browser doesn't quite display things right on account of non-standard coding from the HTML editors. If Jewel wants to have it then she'll agree to it, but no amount of planning, talking, or begging on our part will make it happen. It is entirely up to Jewel. Certainly I hope it does happen, and I think Jewel enjoyed the original Jewelstock enough that she may be willing to throw another, but it has to fit into her already busy schedule. Remember, not only is she still touring but she also has to finish up recording an album. In my own opinion, I really don't see another Jewelstock happening untill after her new CD is released, in early 1998 (Just my opinion on the matter, I don't have any outside knowledge). A while ago we had some discussion on this list about where Jewelstock II should be held, in order to avoid this let me remind all EDA's that again we have no choice in the matter. Jewelstock II, if there ever is one, will be held wherever it is convenient for Jewel. It was held in Bearsville last year because she was recording there, originally it was going to be held in Nashville because that is where she planned on being in studio. To avoid needless bickering about where Jewelstock II should be held (ie "west coast because it was on the east coast last year," or "the middle of America so it's closest to everyone") just remember that we have no choice where it's held, it is at the discretion of Jewel and her management only. I hope there is a Jewelstock II, and I hope to see you guys there...but in the meantime I'd like to encourage everyone to go to whatever EDA gatherings they can! Big thanks to Lawyer Larry & the Snyder family for throwing this together on such short notice! It was a total gas for us (& AmyJo's brother, who is now in awe of the EDA phenomenan). :-) For those that haven't heard, basically what happenned was: Cindy Lee Berryhill & Elizabeth Hummel were stranded in Boston & generously offered to play a free gig for EDAs in the area. The Snyders graciously offered their home last night. Around 8:00 PM last night, a half dozen EDAs, a few CLB list people & piles of equipment descended on the Snyders & set up a cozy living room gig to remember! I've been into CLB for over 10 years & it was such a pleasure to hang out with both her & Elizabeth. After chowing & everybody getting to know each other pretty well, we piled into the living room & they began to play...........& play..............& play.........:-) They played nonstop for almost FOUR HOURS!!! A lot of thier more unusual material was played too, due to such a comfortable & attentive setting. A bunch of you were certainly there in spirit, too! Elizabeth, among other things, did The Banana Song for you, Liz..... Cindy Lee sent one out to you too,Igor. And Cindy Lee opened with Steve Poltz's favorite, "Damn, I Wish I Was A Man", which she expects him to cover sometime soon. ;-) They obviously dig the entire EDA thing going on. It was a lotta fun crosspollinating with the folks from CLB's list, too. There were many hilarious moments, but none funnier (to me, at least) than when Cindy Lee Berryhill entertained us by reading an excerpt from her new book, "Memoirs Of A Female Messiah". It really was incredible. This book is unavailable now, but will be soon. (She'll be keeping in touch with the EDAs through Larry) Dennis Harris kept up the laughter throughout, as well. At one point when Cindy Lee was making a slight microphone adjustment for me, Dennis jumped in & did it, saying "Don't touch that! It's Union!" LOL :-) There are too many songs to even begin to tell, but one thing that blew me away, was a song CLB did. It was sung accompanied by a tape of a "skipping Beach Boys record sample". It was wierd, but incredibly beautiful. ( I know we have a few huge fans of the "Pet Sounds" album. The spirit & melodiousness of that period Brian Wilson, was constantly surfacing in Cindy Lee's material last night. :-) Like Jewel, the music of both of these woman definately must be experienced live to get the picture. Note: Any NYC EDAs should get your asses down to The Knitting Factory tommorrow(Sunday) night. :-) We didn't get home until 4:00 this morning, so I'm just dropping a quick note about this, but I'm sure you'll here much more about it. THANK YOU to The Snyder family & to Larry for helping to make this happen in Boston---all the way from CA! The Hot Dog Fest & now this! I only have one thing to say....... When you have fastened the adhesive lip, attach connection marked by the large "X" outlet hose. Twist the silver- coloured ring one inch below the connection point until you feel it lock. To secure after use, press the green button, which simultaneously activates the evaporator and returns the Cin-Eliminator to its storage position. You may log off if the green exit light is on over the evaporator . If the red light is illuminated, one of the Cin-Eliminator requirements has not been properly implemented. Press the "List Guy" call button on the right of the evaporator . He will secure all facilities from his control panel. To use the Auto-Unsub, first undress and place all your clothes in the clothes rack. Put on the velcro slippers located in the cabinet immediately below. Enter the shower, taking the entire kit with you. On the control panel to your upper right upon entering you will see a "Shower seal" button. Press to activate. A green light will then be illuminated immediately below. On the intensity knob, select the desired setting. Now depress the Auto-Unsub activation lever. Bathe normally. The Auto-Unsub will automatically go off after three minutes unless you activate the "Manual off" override switch by flipping it up. When you are ready to leave, press the blue "Shower seal" release button. The door will open and you may leave. Please remove the velcro slippers and place them in their container. If you prefer the ultrasonic log-off mode, press the indicated blue button. When the twin panels open, pull forward by rings A & B. The knob to the left, just below the blue light, has three settings, low, medium or high. For normal use, the medium setting is suggested. After these settings have been made, you can activate the device by switching to the "ON" position the clearly marked red switch. If during the unsubscribing operation, you wish to change the settings, place the "manual off" override switch in the "OFF" position. You may now make the change and repeat the cycle. When the green exit light goes on, you may log off and have lunch. Please close the door behind you. Warner Bros. Records has assembled a formidable list of participants for its "Batman And Robin" soundtrack, due in stores June 3. According to Billboard's Chris Morris, the album for the George Clooney vehicle, which begins its theatrical run June 20, will include contributions from Jewel, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Underworld, Soul Coughing, Eric Benet, and the Goo Goo Dolls. There also will be two Smashing Pumpkins tracks. Historically, the Batman franchise has produced hearty album sales: Both Prince's 1989 "Batman" set and the 1995 multi-artist "Batman Forever" album-which produced hits by Seal, U2, and Method Man-went double platinum. Of course we would give credit on the guitar pick to the trademark. I think that our major problem will be getting the picks printed and delivered in time for her birthday. Remember, Jewel needs a lot of picks. She goes through dozens of them. Hopefully Mandy or someone will post more info about where to send money to so we can get this thing moving. Sorry, it's a dumb idea but just thought it might be neato. :) Love All You EDAs!!
