HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's how I "think" the Weiland-Jewel rumor got started.....they posed for a picture together during the Grammy's (along with Steve Winwood)...that's IT! I KNOW for a fact that they're not dating though. I guess it's good National Enquirer material. I think Jewel's personal life should be left at that. Think about how *you'd* feel if everyone questioned who your current significant other was! Let's enjoy Jewel's music, her lyrics, and not pay so much attention to who her current companion is...like it really matters. But, Boston, MA is a market they want to visit! Here's everything LF has (http://www.lilithfair.com): This is the place to find out when Lilith Fair is coming to venue near you. As soon as we have confirmation of a date, it will be added to the list. We'll also be including all other kinds of information, such as a schedule for each day, ticket information (including links to purchase some of the best seats directly from us), directions to the venue, any available public transportation, and plenty of information about the surrounding area so that you are aware of accommodations, restaurants, and any special offers that some of the Lilith Community members may have available for you. There will be some changes to this, and for our Canadian friends, you are likely to see a couple more cities added. Did you remember that this list is subject to change? I'll go back to the regular Friday updates next week...and IF I have access to my computer this Friday, and there are more updates, then I'll re-post this list. ****************************************************************************** To all EDA's: Here's an updated list (4/9) of all of the EDA's that are going to try to make the Rockfest '97 concert on June 21, 1997 in Fort Worth, TX. Some are more serious than others but this is just a list of everyone whose shown an interest. As the concert gets closer, I'll have this narrowed down to the EDA's that are *for sure* going to be there. If you don't see your name here and want to go, then please e-mail me, Farr, or Christina with your info. (Their e-mail addresses are below) Or if you see any incorrect info about you on this list, please let one of us know. Each name with a "*" by it means that this person has shown interest in attending the tailgate party being held Friday, June 20. As the concert gets closer, the "tailgate EDA's list" will be narrowed down to those that are *for sure* going to attend. *If there are any EDA's in need of tickets, please e-mail Farr. He has a few extras and may be able to help out. Also, if there is anyone else with "extra" tickets, then let Farr know as well. *Any EDA's that will need a place to stay OR can offer a place for other EDA's to stay, please e-mail Farr. He is compiling a list with this info. * In future updates, I hope to have a list of several hotels near the concert site for those of you wishing to make reservations soon. *Anyone that needs a ride or can give a ride to others, please e-mail Christina about that. She is keeping a list of carpool info. Also, if anyone sees another person here from their area on this list, you might try just sending them a letter to arrange a ride if possible. If so, please let Christina know so she can update her list. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** ROCKFEST '97 EDA LIST *** ============================= *Angela DiIulio - Fort Worth, TX - earthsis@spindle.net *Christina Ferrara - York, PA - cferrara@eagle.ycp.edu *Derrick Karacostas - Hitchcock, TX - dkaracos@marlin.utmb.edu *Farr Shepherd - Tecumseh, OK - obie1@ou.edu *Demian Blair - Pittsburgh, PA - dblair@aecnet.com *Laura Capello - Kansas City, MO - cap8116@kcmetro.cc.mo.us *John Cummings - Columbus, OH - cummings.65@postbox.acs.ohio-state.edu *Bill and Carrie Dallner - Chicago, IL - dallfin@flash.net *Duff, lastname - city, state - tjtalken@aol.com *Douglas Stephen Garay - Dallas, TX - dsg0001@jove.acs.unt.edu *Jon Hargett - Auburn, AL - e-mail address *Steve Mier - Omaha, NE - e-mail address *Luke Nye - Omaha, NE - jnye@probe.net (may ride with Steve) *Mike Spring - Orlando, FL - exit28@juno.com *Dan Stark - Windsor, Ontario - danstark@MNSi.Net *John-Eric Stevens - Roseville, CA - calstvns@ix.netcom.com *Amelia Vlah (Mia) - Cleveland, OH- asv@po.CWRU.edu (riding with Dan Stark) *Andy Wang - Seattle, WA - Andy.Wang@MSNBC.COM (news media guy) Sandy Andrews - Orlando, FL - andrewss@db.erau.edu (riding with Mike Spring) Angel , lastname - city, state - angel82@concentric.net Becca, lastname - Houston, TX - LikeHi@aol.com Dan Bogacz - Pittsburgh, PA - (riding with John Fisher) Will, Cheng - Sugarland, TX - soul42@aol.com Tien Dang - Houston, TX - tdang2@Bayou.UH.EDU Dan Faissol - San Francisco, CA - faissol@home.com John Fisher - Cincinnati, OH - 2fishnet@concentric.net Kate Fisher - York, PA - (riding with Christina) Joshua Free - Manitowoc, WI - jdfree@students.wisc.edu Michael Garnett - Peoria, IL - garnett@webtv.net Kira Green - city, state - afrodzak@worldnet.att.net Mark Hardy - city, FL - musicman@beaches.net Tessa "Harris" - El Paso, TX - asset.moo@mail.utexas.edu Katherine Hendry - Blue Point, NY - khendry@ic.sunysb.edu Tyler Holsapple - Lubbock, TX - holsapple@ttu.edu James Judd - Auburn, AL - James.Judd@Eng.Auburn.EDU Karen, lastname - city, FL - KarenFL5@aol.com Stacy Katz - Houston, TX - stacy@nol.net Rachel Martin - Manassas, VA - ramarti5@vt.edu Ashe Mayfair - city, MO - mayfair@ponyexpress.net Laura Anne Mccasland - city, ND - mccaslan@prairie.NoDak.edu Thomas N. At the last LA show, I was able to get 5 new people to see Jewel live for the first time and now I keep getting asked "When is she coming back, when is she coming back." At the May 1996 show in LA I got 7 people to see Jewel for the first time. I think at least 4 will be going to the Lillith Fair show, mainly to see her again also. Here's the hole I am though... One of the guys who went for the first time is in the middle now of the infatuation stage and he kept asking me about all of Jewel's stuff but he is not computer literate so he has no idea how to be on the list himself. He said, "I need a poster, I need a poster of Jewel, can you get one, I'll pay you." I replied, "Probably." At that point the other people around me (who I've seen Jewel concerts with before) said, "He can get one, he gets all the stuff from those internet people." So I pretty much agreed. Thus the scenario. If anyone has a spare poster of any size, obviously payment for time/effort and postage will be included. Can I get some help with my friend, the infatuation stage Jewel fan? I remember there was discussion about posters recently, that's why I originally said "Probably." Now for Friday. Imagine the scene: Larry's house, wall-to-wall sleeping bags. No Sinjin, that was my feet you had to shove out of the way to open the front door; I didn't notice. I did wake up when Jarred had to open the door. Me: "What's going on?" Jarred: "The UPS man is here." Me : "THEY'RE HERE!!!" The official Hot Dog Fest '97 t-shirts had arrived. ("I'm gonna UPS my heart next day to you.") I wasn't able to pick them up in the rush to leave Virginia on Wed. so I had it arranged (hopefully) for them to be mailed out. Thank Goddess it worked. Okay, Dennis is fixing breakfast, showers are being taken, Larry is in the backyard painting, the telephone is ringing. Then Dennis starts doing some sort of bizarre ritual Cherokee dance of his... oh wait, he just needs to use the lavatory and I'm in the shower. Well let me put my pants on so you don't see me naked, Dennis. (This will come back to haunt me.) So we begin packing everything into two cars only to realise we have THREE carfulls of stuff. Well, off the the rental place. I jump into the car along with Dennis, Amy, and Liz. We head down the California coast flipping through the photos from last night ("Gunslinger Steve" and "Wildman John"). "Look at that water.... oh, that's plastic!" We get to La Jolla and go straight to the UCSD campus... finding no RIMAC arena or anything like it. We wander around for five minutes and end up driving toward the Pacific Ocean. Aw hell, let's take a walk on the beach. ("Cute guys with crew cuts, and their day-glo surf boards.") I take a stroll into the water (warm and clear). We begin walking towards a tidal pool in search of stranded fish when Amy says, "Maybe we should head back to the concert venue." "Oh yeah, the concert. I guess we should." So back in the car ("Is this ours?") and off to the campus and finally we stop and ask for directions. We're straightened out and it's off to RIMAC just in time for sound check. "Are you with the band?" We get to the venue, find a good place to park, and head out in search of the others. Dennis and Amy are getting nervous -- Igor is supposed to be here. Well, we missed him. But there is a tired looking red-head who introduces herself as Luna. She's just got off a bus here from Albequerque And this is her first Jewel concert. Wow. "Did you go to the beach?" Pulses are racing, will we get in for sound check? (We all do.) Will we even get into the concert? (Just barely.) Fifty extra tickets go on sale, we use John-Eric's cel-phone but to no avail. Some lurker EDAs see our poster and come chat with us. Some non-EDAs do too and are quickly evangelized. They open the doors for sound check. Those of us without tickets get in line behind everyone else. There's about a dozen of us, it's not difficult to convince them to let us in. (Dennis was with us, that guy is a smooth-talker and can blend in anywhere. Heaven help Jewel if he really does start stalking her.) They seat us in a roped-off area far from the stage. As if we'd stay there very long. Jewel walks on stage and invites us up to the front few rows. Highlights from this performance: Innocence Maintained, Unsung in Your Eyes, and she didn't "make up" the lyrics to Down. Yeah, I guess Larry's been to a few of her shows. A meet in greet afterwards, "I'm really tired." (No kidding!) but she still posed for pictures with a few children there. We showed her the Rugburns banner, Liz gave her a letter, I gave her beads, John thanked her, and Dennis snuck into her dressing room. God damn that Harris Brother. "You're here!" Then it's time to get kicked out by the overly-anal security again. "Are you all here to see Bob?" Then outside and more waiting around. Hey, there's John Hagen! Dennis gets a business card (Austin!), John-Eric gets an autograph, and I give him beads. Then it's dinner time. Simply put, I needed a cup to pour the grease from this burrito into. Yum! More hanging out, talking to radio guys (trying to schmooze tickets, invite to HDF, and run over Jarred). Beads given to Tom and Nancy (our gracious hosts) before I forget. We get tickets straightened out, NOT! Much aggravation. ("At this point I'm prepared to just leave and catch Star Wars somewhere.") Concert time. Dennis and Amy meet Igor. Finally tickets are straightened out. James gets picked up for scalping; Tom Proven for vagrancy; the distraction allows Dennis to slip through the tightened security without incident. I pick up a Rugburns Rock shirt, my first autograph -- Java Joe! He dubbed me "John" by the grace of bourbon (oops). Just in time for the 'Burns to come on. Home town crowds are great, huh? ("I love you Steve!" "Take it off!") Much laughter, unfortunately no photos. :-( And Gold's Gym Guy.... with Gold's Gym guys! The band was caught completely by surprise. What a show. Some girls in front of us were in love with Steve and must've been on pogo sticks. Lots of "Sit down!"s from us. "These guys could kick my ass!" Jewel comes on. An obnoxious guy behind us was expressing his love. John expressed his back a few times. Jewel nearly brains her stage tech. ("Are you okay, Colin?") Then Nicotine Love, much excitement there. Then Adrian, Wow! (Steve on guitar.) They also sung Silverlining to many requests (everyone?). Then Painters, I'm melting. Even though she's messed up the words in this and Adrian I'm loving it. She sings Angel Standing By; I remark to John, "You may as well write 'Chime Bells' next as well." But no, Jewel feels like making a liar out of me and reaches down and picks up... is that the poetry book? Oh my goddess, she's reading poetry! I have now officially died and gone to heaven. "Rosallita, Mexico -- we've all been there." ("No we haven't.") "Sun City, California -- we've all been there." ("No we haven't.") Chime Bells. Thank you, good night. People leave. (Huh?) Okay, John and I grab better seats for WWSYS. The band is rockin', John waves his EDA poster. Jewel asks to turn the stage lights down so she can see us. Amen. And the Tiny Lights of Heaven fade. I'm in tears. No one says a word, our faces reflect the joy that we experienced that night. What a wonderful concert. Clearing the hall when we spot Lenedra. Unfortunately I have no beads, I still had one promised to Stinky. Lots of chatting, Igor has Shiva Diva Do Wop. Some cameramen approach us and begin interviewing. Wait a minute, these guys are from C|Net! We're being broadcast on the web!!!! Muahahaha!!! "How's the head, Colin?" Lenedra likes Elizabeth Hummel. Jewel likes Elizabeth Hummel. Elizabeth Hummel is appearing shortly on EDA Records. Go check her out. Outside I meet and chum with John Castro. He signs my shirt "Cartoons are life." It wasn't until the next morning I realised this was because I was wearing my Sailor Moon shirt. I see Stinky and give him beads. That's the last of them. Total bead count -- 8 given away at the HFSMas '95; Liz, Igor, Larry, Tom and Nancy, John Hagen, Jewel, the Rugburns. Then St. Doug CDs for sale, and everyone's off to the house for the night. "Remember to 'blah-blah-blah' and get perfect moments stuck between your teeth." I'm half in a daze and am disturbed by bright lights. "What's that?" "Immigration check point." Back to the house: snakes, cliffs, Macs, and Rolling Rock. John-Eric and I were going to head down to the beach. I got set down in front of the computer and at four A.M., John went to sleep. I watched the sunrise, then sat down in a chair and woke up with a very sore neck. "Good morning." "Is it?" Saturday morning. My coffee radar kicks in and a hone in, picking up some donuts on the way. We watch the Hard Rock Live video. Another reason to tape a show and watch it later -- Fast Forward. I take a long shower and come out ready for lunch. We get a call from the "Fire Marshall." Poor John-Eric answers and has to endure the cross-coaching of Tom Proven and Dennis both telling him what not to say. It is revealed that we have recieved a call from none other than Igor. (It had to be the one guy who didn't know his voice answering the phone.) "They're not here right now." "Don't tell them they're not home!" Well we, Dennis, Jarred, Amy, Tom Proven, Laura, John-Eric, and myself head out for lunch to a place Nancy recommended and at which we must order the "chocolate vanilla shake." We order seven, I mean six shakes other appetizers (I never got to try any of those cheese sticks.) And later doggie bags. More evangelization with the waitress. And Dennis gave us a lesson in food service. "What do you recommend?" "I recommend nothing." JC in the restaurant: an autographed photo of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Tom Proven will put a quarter into any machine he walks by that says "Insert 25 cents." Remember this. Some shopping, no pens, film and obnoxious photo clerks, surfboards and sunglasses, and another Ralph's. We buy a lottery ticket, maybe we should've went to Lucky's instead. Sunset as we find our way back to the house. Igor is there already. The computer is finally allowing people to connect to AOL. (Hi Chelsface!) Shelly has a tatoo! So does Tegan! And a video as well. Igor and Tegan want to find a bar; Jarred, John-Eric, and I go as well. We discover a place called "Lookers", every bit the West-coast rip-off of Hooters. "We'll have margaritas." "May I see your ID." "Make his a virgin margarita." Lots of evangelization with the waitress -- she's a Jewel fan, but she's never heard of the Rugburns. We also slipped in some Cindy Lee Berryhill as well. Igor gives us his lesson in food service (which Tegan and I had heard before at Lizstock). The five of us make our way back to the house in time for Dennis's chicken wings. Very good. Another sing-a-long, I don't recall a video but there were many cameras flashing. We turned in that night with theme songs, stolen sleeping bags, and "Don't forget to set the alarm clock." I think I've packed enough into this post, two full days. Next, the Hot Dog Fest itself and the journey home. - - - -- Blessed Be - ---pat "Love, Life, and Lollipops!." -- Big Ears and Noodle Noggin' ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Apr 1997 17:59:50 -0700 From: PDeSanti@lmumail.lmu.edu Subject: Test testorama for the majordomo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Apr 1997 18:26:15 -0500 From: BeefJerky Subject: Hard Rock Live audio/video tape offer I wanted to let ya'll know that I already have picked my 5 winners for each of the 2 contests. I realized that even with the new Adopt-a-Newbie web-site up, and with all my posts, there are still a couple points of AAN that I haven't clarified. The first thing is that, while AAN is a list thing, I started it. It had been talked about jokingly on the list for a long time, but I'm the person that actually put it all together and runs it ( except for Terrence, who made the great web site :) ). While AAN was created for the Jewel list, it isn't something that's permanently been here. I'm saying this so that people understand why I seem to be dominating the whole thing- 'cause I am ! :) It may not be around forever. If there's a point where I leave the list, AAN will probably go with me ( unless I give it to someone else ). The other thing ties in with the first :). Because of the fact that I run the program, I have jurisdiction over the whole thing. I can decide who I want , and I can decide to kick butts to the curb !! =) I've never refused a newbie. If there's ever been a newbie that didn't get a parent, it's because I either didn't recieve their mail, or they just mailed me very recently and I haven't done the next batch yet. HOWEVER, I have refused parents. I judge parenthood by watching how people conduct themselves on the list. If someone has very poor list etiquette, ever sends rude letters to people regarding their posts ( flames and rudeness are completely different ) , or is known to harrass people, that person will not get to adopt anyone. Pretty easy :). It's the same as the way that America Online will supposedly kick off anyone who is repeatedly complained about. Obviously, I'm not gonna take any parents that would be bad role models ! That's pretty simple :). The main point here is that I get to choose who participates in AAN. I know this may sound a little harsh ( although I hope it doesn't but everyone reads differently ). So far, I've only gotten one complaint about AAN, and I intend to keep it that way ! :) Everyone be nice, Rachel :) "Anyone can start a conflict, it's harder yet to disregard it" and it's }angelic{ to help out and avoid the conflict in the first place ! I'm looking for the problem now. In the mean time, let me ask you to follow these guidelines: 1) DON'T post test messages 2) DON'T post multiple times 3) Simply ignore the messages you see from majordomo if (and when) you post Thanks, Jeff [to jewel@smoe.org] ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #257 ***************************
