These booklets contain poetry, writing, vintage & recent photos as well as info about the tour itself. Here's the instructions. Please follow them EXACTLY in order for this to be as easy as possible for us. Cost of the booklets are $10 in American dollars. (same as at the shows) All booklets will be sent 1st class unless you want & pay for Priority mail. 1) USA EDAs: All you need to do is send me a standard size manilla envelope (9.5" x 13") that is self adressed & with at least $1.50 in stamps already on it. (Note: DO NOT use postal meter postage! Only stamps. Add an extra 32 cent stamp for each extra booklet ordered up to 5 booklets.) Include $10 cash (NO CHECKS) for each booklet ordered. We will simply put however many booklets you paid for in the envelope & send it back to you. Its that easy. If you want the booklets faster, you can send a Priority mailer with a $3 stamp on it instead of a manilla envelope with $1.50 on it. If you want more than 5 of them, please use a Priority mailer--I can fit up to ten of them in there. Canada: We need one Canadian volunteer who can collect all money for any Canadian orders. That one person can have the money exchanged into US funds & send us all Canadian orders. I'll then send that one person all the Canadian ordered booklets for them to mail back to those EDAs. (I'll pay the postage to ship them to this volunteer after recieving the money.) Outside North America: I really don't know how this can be done easily, but I'm open to suggestions. Email me privately if you know of a way to deal with exchange rates & foriegn postage, etc easily. I know of no way to do it without a lot of problems. Perhaps one American EDA can volunteer to help all those people & handle all non-North American orders in a similar way to the Canadian volunteer. Send your self adressed pre-postaged 9.5" x 13" manilla envelope, with $10 cash for each booklet ordered to: Jewel Tour Book c/o MrBB P.O. Box 8147 Berlin,CT 06037-8147 These booklets are in limited quantities & will not be printed again. I'll keep the list posted if it looks like they'll sell out to prevent having to return any requests. Remember, Amyjo & I volunteered to do this "totally non-profit" because so many EDAs requested it. Follow the simple instructions. I know this will be painless if you do. :-) If this can be done without a lot of problems, We've agreed to set up a similar thing with the leftover tour t-shirts. Lets see how it goes. Hello angels! I'm back on the list after spring break. I just received JewelStock tapes in the mail yesterday (making my day totally wonderful), and am loving them!!! Since I'm getting married in June, and wanted something a bit more orginal to walk down the aisle to, and totally fell in the love The Face of Love, I'm thinking that I want that played. However, on the chance that playing a tape in the place won't work, I'm going to see if I can find someone to play & sing it. So if anyone has tabs for it, I'll be very appreciative if you could send 'em my way. Thanks! I'd be even more appreciative if someone would volunteer to come up to Maine and play it at my wedding! As if, I know, but it's worth a try. :) And on another note, I also want to say..."I want Lenedra to be my mom!!!" :) As I was listening to the tapes for the first time, I was in bed with my stuffed dog and dragon (I haven't exactly feeling well lately), and as Lenedra's voice came on, I immediately felt calmed. I'm referring to the spot on the tape where she sings The Little Bird, and right before she tells how it was Jewel's favorite lullaby, and says that she tucking you in, and to close your eyes and pull up your blankies... Her speaking voice alone was so soothing, I immediately could feel some of my anxiety going away; I felt a peaceful, child-like calm warming my body. So now, whenever my mind is at unrest, I like to listen to that song. :) I always have wanted to thank Jewel for her gift to us, but now I want even more so to thank Lenedra. I feel like she's the mother I always wanted but never had. I'm really sorry for the length of the post; I didn't mean for it to end up this long. However, what really grabbed my attention - and much to my great delight - was that beneath a photo of the band is a picture of our beloved Ms. Kilcher with the caption 'Jewel, part of new breed' The article cites how the Pop cd debuted at number one, and has fallen steadily. One of the paragraphs reads as follows. "Last week, Pop was being outsold two to one in the U.S. by Celine Dion's year-old Falling Into You. The Spice Girls and teenage country sensation Leann Rimes are also outgunning the band. And new-folkie Jewel, whose debut album has been on Billboard for 14 months, is far ahead of U2 for the week in sales and chart position." They then refer to Jewel at the end of the article when they list some of the 'young blood' that is helping the health of the recording industry (along with No Doubt, Shania Twain and that Morissette person. Well, if nothing else, seeing that picture unexpectedly early this mornig was a nice little pick-me up. Usually, when I pick up the paper, there's just more bad news...more hearts being broken, more people being used.... Tegan was also there. This was really turning into a Lizstock reunion. We head out to the Wiltern, it's 2.30p We (Liz, John-Eric, and I) spend six hours in Korea town waiting first to get into sound check (there is none) then for the show to start. Lots of cursing and bad songs. "Don't go in there, the Fish are sleeping." We finally find Larry, Tegan, Tom Proven, Shelly, Amy, and Dennis -- and a Dennis with photos. (Be afraid, be very afraid.) "Llamas! IT'S A SIGN!!!" Lots of other people show up, I see Bibi for the first time. Ten minutes to showtime I decide to go in. The Rugburns come on, this is my first time seeing them live. They give a standard set, including a song inspired by a woman who gave them a standing ovation. Jewel comes out for "I Thought I Saw You Last Night". And Stinky tossed his sticks into the audience. Lots of great photos from this show. Jewel's set was pretty basic. She apologized before playing Satellite (being in LA). Just the second encore was a surprise. Overall, Jewel's set was average. The Rugburns set was short, but fun-filled. "We used to be a 42-piece band..." and Steve talked about being the "skinny heroin addict" in YWMFM video and gave a demonstration with John. I told John they should do their next video like that, he said they should do *all* their videos like that. ;-) No meet'n'greet with Jewel, they had to leave for SD right away. They were yanking the 'Burns out too and I missed giving Stinky his beads. (I had given John and Steve theirs -- Steve gave me a hug.) We get together after the show, East coast vs. West coast count was 7-4. Then we went shopping for breakfast -- who would name a food mart "Ralph"??? Then back to the house for sing-a-longs and sleeping bags. "Yodel!" "Take it off!" "Shut-up f*****." Well, that's pretty much my Thursday. More to come. - - - -- Blessed Be - ---pat "Eggplant? It has around 14 pages. It is definitely a collectors item! Then again, since I love JEWEL, anything with her in it is a collectors item to me! I don't know if it's allowed but I would be happy to post some of the poetry from the booklet. Is that legal? So EVERYONE who wants one (or more) can get them. :-) They'll be posting their instructions in the next day or two. Also, a glaring error on the Europe Tour dates. The April 30th radio show in Madrid is of course in Spain, not Italy.... Time for me to brush up on my geography..... Alan(MrBB) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Apr 1997 19:44:26 -0700 From: Sinjin Subject: NJC: HotDog Fest Well my mind has finally cleared up just enough to spill out these memories of HotDog Fest. I'm sure I'll post more about it later, but the one thing we didn't do here on the West Coast is sleep, so I'm still recovering! I first met up with the EDA's Wednesday night after the concert, I talked with everyone and found out how the show was and met some new EDA's and prevented Shelly, Larry, and almost the Fish from getting some sleep (mental note: never sleep with car keys in your pocket). I went home just in time to fall asleep for 2 hours and wake up to record Jewel on KROQ's pajama party. I was stoked to hear Liz as the first guest! The next day I had school and almost missed the show, but while I was at home sulking about to scarf down some food and through some weights around my garage I got a call from John-Eric saying something like "Sinjin we got your ticket, now get the hell down here!" I set a new land-speed record to the Wiltern and got to chill with some EDA's and some Rugburns before the show. The show kicked donkey, front row tix didn't hurt either ;) After the show we returned to Larry's fully stocked with food, drink, and bubbles. I don't remember much of what happened (I'm the only person who gets a hang-over without drinking a single beer!) but at work the next day I kept thinking to myself "Oh my god...I did that? I can't believe they got that on film..." I still haven't seen the video BTW, and if I ever get my hands on it, it may 'mysteriously' disappear. What I do remember is using Starburst twists as drum sticks and drumming on the floor, the walls, the ceiling, my crocth, somones elses crotch, Shelly's head, the camera, the cameraman's feet...well, you get the picture. There was also a YWMFM video immitation in there and one episode which went like this: (NOTE: Names changed to avoid ridicule) Jewel Lip Syncher: "Who will save your soooooouuuullll" Crowd: "Yodel!" Jewel Lip Syncher: "Shut up!" Crowd: "Take it off!" Jewel Lip Syncher: "Bite me!" Crowd: "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll!" Jewel Lip Syncher: "Lick me!" ...so I did :P Now allow me to say that there WILL NEVER BE A WILTERN POST-SHOW VIDEO TREE! I will do whatever it takes to prevent that tape from making it into the hands of those who were not there. We then stayed up nearly the whole night talking. Well, that's not totally true...Dennis talked, not many others got a word in edgewise. We then went to bed, but again didn't get much sleep. I'm still trying to remember who kept yanking our sleeping bag and at one point I think there was a 3rd person in my bed...damn I hope it wasn't a Harris. I got 30 minutes of sleep that night, and woke up to stagger to work for a 10.5 hour day...my partner kept saying "Sinjin, just take a nap...I'll watch the water" but somehow I managed to stay awake. Oh, John-Eric was blocking the door on the way out, and I was in no mood to be nice so I just kicked his feet outta my way on the way out, hehehe. OK, now we get to the Hot Dog fest! I didn't arrive at Tom and Nancy's till Sunday afternoon and as soon as I walk in I'm bombarded with people saying "Sign my shirt! Sign my shirt!" I felt like a fucking supermodel :P I then managed to walk outside and Provent shouts "Sinjin, throw me the frisbee!" I do so, having never seen the cliff that is directly behind him. The frisbee heads straight for him, then catches a mean wind gust and sails up and way over the cliff never to be seen again. And I hadn't even been outside for 30 seconds yet! Most of the rest of HDF has been posted already, the Rugburns arrived and we interviewed them and everyone got fat and had fun. So I'll post on what happened after almost everyone left. We were sitting around watching Shelly and John and Stinky playing with the Ouija board when they decided to contact the spirit of Cab Calloway. Anyway, to make a long story short (too late) were gonna buy Cab a shot of gin at the Casbah and just let it sit for him. That's about all I can think of now, I know there's a ton more I gotta talk about this is all my mind can handle now. More later, Sinjin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Apr 1997 23:07:22 -0400 From: N4SIR@webtv.net (Donny Emmert) Subject: Re: Race Car Driver let me apologise, i was the one who started the "sexual revolution" in the EDA circle of friends...i replied to the first post of Race Car Driver and wanted to know how others felt...after tabulating the total of who agrees and doesn't agree with me i have 1 agree, 7 disagree, and 1 undecided...i dunno if the 7 are just sticking up for jewel or if this is really how they feel...i never meant for sexual references in her songs to be a "bad" thing...i was just suprised to see such a blantant post of jewel exploring sexuality in one of her songs...with too many pop and rock song revolving around sex i hoped jewel would stray away from the mainstream...i value everyone's post about the song and hope i didn't cause too much of a problem tonight. donny "Hands manifest thought"---Jewel "They thought blue prints were too sad so they made them yellow"---Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Apr 1997 23:07:57 -0400 From: Joshua Baummer Subject: Jewel anterexic This may just be a roumor be I thought I heard that Jewel is an antirxic is there any truth in that? Luke ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Apr 1997 22:40:54 -0500 From: Ashe Mayfair Subject: Last call and the next wave (A contest this time ;]) Ok, about a week ago I posted asking for all of the people that I said I would make copies of Rare Angels and Radio Angels for to mail me and tell me where they where in that prosses if I hadn't givin you word that I got your tapes or if you hadn't go them. Well, one person mailed me. That still leaves something like 3 people that are unaccounted for. Well people, if I don't get some word in the next few days you'll just have to try your luck with one of my next waves of making tapes for starving angels. Sorry, but I need to get on with this. Now, as for me next wave of tape making: I am going to do this a little differnt then last time. As the subject line says, I'm doing it as a contest this time. I'm going to go ahead and get this started, so if you are interested read on. FIRST: All intries should be sent to me directly. NOT THE LIST. Anyone that sends one to the list will be disqualified, I don't wanna take up list space with this. With everyones premission I will post this entries on my web page (you'll see why I wanna do that in a second ;]). Also, when entering, make sure the subject line reads: "TAPE CONTEST" (all CAPS included ;]). Ok, now with that out of the way, lets get on with the contest. THE CONTEST: Ok, I've been thinking about musicals a bit latly and how I once I had a teacher that said he didn't like them because they just where not beliveable (because people don't just break into songs out of no where, and they espicialy don't just make em up out of nowhere ;]). So I was thinking: "what if they where singing already existing songs?". So here it is: I wanna see people make up a musical story using Jewel songs. Now, you don't have to write an full musical (but if you want to go for it ;]). All you have to do is give me a basic outline of the story and what part the songs play in it (as in: how are they relivent to the story). Still intersted? Then read on. THE RULES: 1) Think of Jewel songs you know, and try to find ones you can make into a story of some kind 2) Take any 10 Jewel songs (10 and only 10; no more, no less) 3) Arange them into a story 4) Type up an outline of the story, or a full play for it IF you like :] 5) send it to me with the subject line "TAPE CONTEST" 6) If you win, take your choice of a couple tapes worth of my collection (for a list look at: http://www.ponyexpress.net/index.htm go there and then click on the "Tapes" link) NOTES: Remeber that any story has a cast and not just one charater. Jewel dosn't have to be one of the actors for this musical, tho she can be. Just think of it like a normal story. IN CLOSING: 1) When you mail this, the first OR last line should be you telling me if it is ok for me to put this on my web page (I won't be putting up your E-mail so don't worry about that) 2) I will not exept entries after April 20th 3) If you have questions, just ask. That is all. Hope to hear from some of you soon. - -Ashe Mayfair: The Longshot Angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #254 ***************************
