Last year I suggested that Jewel lighten up a bit with her next video. WWSYS and YWMFM were both moody, cerebral and stylistic. People might get the idea that she is just no fun. We know better, but a lot of people might not. A fun, no-brainer romp of a video (can Foolish Games romp?) would be a great switch for her. Hi, Just wanted to offer something to the newer members and people who dont have a copy of Save The Linoleum. I will make a copy of it on to a cassete tape for you. All it will take is a blank 90 minute tape from you. I will also include something special from a live Jewel show on the other side. Now I know your saying.."ah I want the real CD" and "it wont sound as good". Now first off, I cant do anything about helping you get a copy the are few and far between. However, if you are seriuos about Jewel and her music you will want to get the music and listen to it. It shouldnt matter if it's a copy or not. Right now if you dont have it all then your listening to nothing. Secondly on the sound quality issue, quite frankly I use very very good equipment that on 95% of the stereo system EDA's listen to, they would hear no difference between the tape copy and the origional. I could get technical with the equipment if someone wishes so just let me know. So if you want to get a copy please send me an e-mail personally and put COPY OF STL in the sunject line. I will respond to you all individually and let you know the process to getting one. Just for your info, my motivation for this is that I am tired of all this childish bickering on the "auction" situation. As a long time list member I find all this bickering unnecessary and a waste of e-mail. You should keep it personal and send it to the person you are trying to express your opinion to, not the whole list. After all this list is about Jewel and her music. Her love and optimism of life. WE often have to remind ourselves of this. Sense this list is about her music, I want to give a little of that music to as many people who want to listen to it. I don't know what the problem is Jason, but I assure you I had nothing to do with it. As numerous vetran EDA's have been trying to tell you, this is not your normal mailing list. What goes on out there on other lists is not acceptable on this one. Auctioning is one of those things, because we have all kind of accepted each other as one big family. Therefore, we look out for one another, help each other, and do not take advantage of one another. Flaming and attacking someone because of their mistake is another thing that doesn't go on in here either, at least not as it does elsewhere. Many of us do take the list personally and feel very strongly about it, but nearly all criticism that I've seen on the list is made in a constructive, helpful manner. I've been quietly observing your messages and the responses that have been going back and forth. I disagree strongly with your point of view on making money at other EDA's expense, but I felt that Mike stated why that is unacceptable rather clearly, and was well supported by numerous others. To be honest, I was supprised that you didn't "get it" after his first post, but I decided to stay out of it. With this in mind, I again assure you that I did not flame you or flood you. To make one brief example, we just passed Easter. Many stores bought Easter candy, then turned around and sold it for a profit. I doubt if anyone saw anything wrong with this. However, let's say you happened to buy the last Easter bunny, and on the night before Easter, your brother is frantically looking for one for his wife. Would you then drive up the price and try to milk $30 out of your brother for the bunny. Well I don't know if you would or not, but I don't think any true EDA's would. Now what makes milking EDA's for a copy of StL wrong? As I said, we're not your everyday list, we view each other as an extended family and therefore do not try to profit at our brother's expense. Now, if you want to go out into society and try to make money off of others in that manner, that is your decision. I would try to counsel you against it, and encourage you to make something with your life, instead of just milking others to get by. But you're not in society on here, you're in our (Jeff's) house, and what everyone's pretty much saying is that if you want to stay in our house, please respect our rules. By remaining a part of our list, you're accepting what we stand for and you're agreeing to help others where possible, and not try to get ahead at other's expense. This is the underlying message to most of Jewel's music, and the underlying theme of this list. If you wish to stay a part of our list (which, by the way, I truly hope you do) that's fine. None of us will hold a grudge against you for your misguided ways, we just ask that you accept the "rules of the house," and give us a chance to explain why things are the way they are. I quickly add, that I think you've started to accept this, and I'm not trying to rub anything in. I just wanted to give you my take on WHY things be that way, from a slightly different viewpoint. I'm glad to have you on the list Jason, you seem to be a very intelligent and entrepreneurial guy. Once you get to know the list a little, you might consider putting that creative energy to good use and creating something for the list. Some recent examples would be Jewel/EDA T-shirts, posters, and the ongoing J-card projects for tape trees. If you were to say make . . . Jewel mousepads for the list and offer them to all who wanted them, I don't think anyone would get upset if worked a dollar of profit into the price (now don't go getting greedy on me and saying I said to do it, I'm talking like rounding your cost of $4.22 up to $5.) In the end it would probably be much more rewarding, much more profitable ($.78 x 1000 vs. $30 x 1,) and ppl would think you were kewl...but alas, I digress. Thanks to all who read. L8er. I saw a nice little poster of Jewel in the window of Sam Goody, and when I asked the dude behind the counter if he could sell it to me he said, "no it's for promotional use only." Perhpas I could convince him that by having it in my room it is a promotion becuase whenever someone walks in I'll promote the CD by telling them to buy it. Anyway, a few months ago someone was conducting a poll to see what everyone thought the first single should be from the next album. I know the album is delayed for another year, but what were the results of that poll? I remember seeing it, but I forgot it. Even though they had some engineering problems (including dropping out into a commercial during the middle of a song!!) I think this was still a great appearance-- and long, too. The "show" lasted more than an hour, and even with commercials edited out my 45min tape still ran out slightly before the end (I missed a few good-byes). The interview portion was a combination of typical (ie- lame) joking around with the DJs and questions from the audience, which ranged from the inane to the inspired. I'll leave it to someone else to give a more in-depth description of things she said. The audience was extremely enthusiastic (which was commented upon several times) and I suspect there were at least a few EDAs in the crowd. In addition to answering questions she gave a quick yodeling lesson to an audience member and sang a few songs: ABCD (All of the Above)--are we counting this as a real song? Morning Song-- station dropped out in the middle of the song Who Will Save Your Soul-- by request from the DJs, of course Enter From the East-- woo hoo! Sometimes It Be That Way-- slightly abridged? I'll have to re-listen Even though I had to wake up earlier than I normally would have on a Thursday in order to listen (she was on from ~8:20-9:30) and despite that extremely unfortunate station screw-up, I thought this was a very good radio appearance; much better than (for instance) the one on the end of the "Jewel Rocks the Paradise" tape.
