First of all since you are fairly new you most likely dont understand the relationship we have on this list. and as Mike and Jeff have Tried to make you understand we try to help each other and we DONT try and cheat each other out of money. do you do that to your friends? you may... i dont know. i dont know you well enough to say you do. but its not right. and the "cost plus shipping" idea is great if you ask me. you arent losing anything and neither is the person you are Helping out (yes helping, get it into your vocabulary). everyone is happy and no one loses. i mean your idea of having an "auction" means that you are taking the highest bidder, now the auction may START at $30 but the whole idea of an auction is that you want it to go higher. so what if it went all the way up to $150, sure you would be making plenty of money, but would you really feel good about yourself knowing that you just cheated a person out of that much money for a lousy CD? i'd rather spend 5 years looking in all of the record stores in NY than to participate in your auction. and now i know youre saying "well who cares if she doesnt participate, if she doesnt someone else will" we mabye if no one participated we wouldnt have the problem of you people like you trying to make money off of us, i say we boycott anyone selling ANY of jewels material for personal gain. and i'm tired of people flaming other people for standing up for the list and what it stands for. Mike and greg were doing what was right. you need to shut up and listen once in awhile, you might just learn something about humanity. Individuality I'm a freak,=20 Someone different- Not to be trusted. Stop! Don't come too close; I might be contagious. My thoughts could enter your head And give you a new perspective- One you never knew. So don't come too close, Or else you could become, God forbid,=20 An Individual. Outside All alone No one around. Solitude. No one can understand; No one knows how I feel. They take my words lightly And laugh at my thoughts. They just do not believe. It is hard for someone looking in When they are outside. The lightning crashes And the thunder roars- They are unable to hear the storm, They sit indoors happily, And do not bother looking out. They do not see me in the storm My body drenched, Drenched with fear. The Rose The rose begins to bloom And opens its pink petals=20 For the world to see. It reaches for the sky Absorbing the sunlight That glimmers down upon it. It smiles, Happy to be alive. The sun now hides behind the Earth. The rose is beginning to wilt, And to lose its once-beautiful color, As all the petals turn a gloomy black And drift onto the ground, Until the rose has fallen lifeless. Hurt A gift from God Filled with emotion- Love, hatred, depression. I=92ll love you one day, But then the next, My heart is crushed By your not so delicate touch. I run in my room,=20 Lock my door, And hide behind my wall- A wall I create to keep you out. I don=92t want to be hurt By your harsh words, But they do not fail. I shall not mention my love, I keep it hidden inside, Where you will never see How much you can hurt me. You destroyed my heart- Tore it in two. Ending the love I gave to you. With my heart in one hand, And my soul in the other I outstretched them both And you took them with glee. Then one day, Not long after You did what I hoped Hoped would never occur. You said it was over, Was done,=20 And was through. So you took out my heart, And my soul that I gave you, And instead of giving them back You threw them away. I know why you did it, Oh, yes. Yes I do. You just do not want Some other guy To take my heart=20 And my soul. This showed that you care- A first time for everything. So I will never forget, When you broke up with me- It was one of the happiest, Yes happiest days of my life. Our classroom is a graveyard. The taste of rotting corpses, Just recently buried, Fills the surrounding air. Only one soul here is alive. The grave digger roams, Picking our pockets Searching endlessly for gold, While we sleep in Comfortless coffins. Our classroom is a graveyard. The Unquiet Grave The wind doth blow today, my love And a few small drops of rain I never had but one true love In a cold grave he was lain I'll do as much for my true love=20 As any young lass may I'll sit and mourn For a 12 month and a day The twelve month and a day being up The dead began to speak "Who sits upon my grave And will not let me sleep" " 'tis I my love, sits on your grave And will not let you think For I crave one kiss of your clay cold lips And that is all I seek" "You crave one kiss of my clay cold lips But my breath smells earthly strong If you have one kiss of my clay cold lips=20 Your time will not be long " 'Tis down in yonder garden green Love, where we used to walk The finest flower that ever was seen Is now withered to a stalk The stalk is withered dry my love So will our hearts decay So make yourself content, my love 'Till God calls you away" Love is the ultimate outlaw Love is the ultimate outlaw,=20 It just wont adhere to any rules.=20 The most any of us can do=20 is to sign on as its accomplice.=20 Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question.=20 The words 'make' and 'stay' become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. Just a few thoughts: Kindness has its own rewards. In reality, generousity does not have any inherent rewards. We should be kind and generous to others, not because we are gonna get something directly in return, but simply, because it is the right thing to do, and because it awakens the goodness within all of us. Kindness is contagious. It spreads. We should all share our kindness because we need more kindness in the world. That is what I love about this list. I see people being kind to one another, not for a reward or gratitiude, but because it is simply the right thing to do and because they want to share a little of their kindness with others in the hope that it spreads. It sounds like this is going to be another concert-looking video, and I hope not! FG is such a beautiful song, I think so much could be done with it that it would be a waste to just do a bland performance shoot. I remember that was the original plan for YWMFM, and I don't think anyone would argue that the current YWMFM video is much better than any concert-video could be. I can think of several ideas for a FG video, hmmm...maybe Jewel just needs me to direct it ;) Lights, camera...Sinjin! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Apr 1997 19:40:42 -0500 From: Crunch Subject: Re: MrBB--Important! Lotsa NEW Jewel Information =( I find the idea of a concert video disappointing too. A concert video usually shows a lack of ideas and ends up looking like the other 4000 concert videos. I was encouraged by the artistic and sensual theme of YWMFM's video, and was hoping for even more with FG. Maybe the J-team can break the mold on this one!! =) Crunch ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Apr 1997 19:41:18 -0500 From: Allan Subject: Review of the Hard Rock special TV Reviews Jewel Kicks Off VH1's Hard Rock Special=20 Hard Rock Live (Sunday, March 30, 8:00-9:00 p.m., VH1)=20 HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - The new performance series from Robert Small, creator of Unplugged for MTV, begins with an engaging hour from million-selling pop-folkie Jewel.=20 The show has all the textures of Unplugged-- more chatting than usual, nonstop camera action of pans, zooms and dolly shots that resolve in closeups -- and adds some black-and-white backstage footage. Appeal will depend solely on the artists.=20 Jewel, the 21-year-old Alaska-to-San Diego transplant who began performing with her parents just out of the toddler stage, wisely uses her show to perform four songs that don't appear on her triple-platinum Atlantic debut Pieces of You. While her 10-song set confirms her young, gifted and beach-bum image -- her social, personal and spiritual reflections all connect to the oceanfront life and traveling to and from surfing sites -- she adds to her vagabond charm by yodeling with dad and dueting a cappella with mom on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.=20 She's in good voice throughout -- performances of the hits "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant for Me" are full of spark -- and the camera clearly loves the doll-faced singer. Backstage chitchat with Paula Cole seems forced; onstage comments capture the giddiness of a youngster freshly acquainted with the prizes of fame.=20 Hard Rock Live, part of the MTV networks' newly re-emphasized music programming, has a varied lineup of double bills over the next half-dozen Sundays, among the performers are Simply Red, Shawn Colvin, Robert Palmer, Lou Reed, John Hiatt and the Lemonheads, each of whom should be able to deliver more the type of commentary or reflection that could make this program stand out.=20 In the first segment, Hard Rock Caf=E9 plugs love letters from Sid Vicious, Freddie Mercury and jazz man Charlie Parker on display at various restaurants. --Phil Gallo=20 Performer: Jewel.=20 Taped in New York by Robert Small Entertainment, VH1, Hard Rock Cafe, Pontiac and Warner Bros. Lines like "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too," and "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain," have become part of our language. For many, the Emerald City and the Yellow Brick Road are practically real places. So it's with more than a little trepidation that one greets anything that incorporates the words "Wizard of Oz" into its title. On paper, the idea for this show must have sounded brilliant: gather an all-star cast to assume, on-stage, The Wizard of Oz's major roles; gussy up the score to attract a broader audience; and condense the plot to accommodate short attention spans. Perhaps it even worked as a live event. On the small screen, however, this concert Wizard falls very flat. Some problems were insurmountable from the start. The Wizard of Oz began as a fantastic book and later became an eminently cinematic movie. The 1939 film's special effects were state-of-the-art, its Technicolor splendor unsurpassed, and its cast, quite frankly, definitive. So how can an inherently limited stage show compete? Well, it tries. And, on some levels, things aren't so bad. The casting here is fairly good. Jewel (an up-and-comer, we are told) proves to be an able Dorothy, though her raspy singing doesn't really suit the material. But Joel Grey, who plays several parts, including that of the Wizard, yet again reminds us that he is a protean talent. And that trio of lovable neurotics--the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion--are suitably honored. Though his singing doesn't really suit the part, Jackson Browne makes for an attractively low-key Scarecrow. Roger Daltrey opts for greater stylization as a charmingly creaky Tin Woodsman. In the end, though, it's Nathan Lane who wins all hearts, as a Cowardly Lion very much in the Bert Lahr tradition. As the Wicked Witch of the West, Debra Winger disappoints, offering us too friendly a villain. Natalie Cole's Glinda the Good Witch isn't as endearing as Billie Burke's, but she satisfies in her own way. Phoebe Snow and Ronnie Spector make much-appreciated cameo appearances in a couple of songs, and Lucie Arnez plays Auntie Em with convincing maternalism. Sadly, all of this talent can't rescue the unwieldy adaptation from director Darrell Larson. Unsatisfyingly episodic, this show moves from song to song in graceless fits and starts. Dramatic tension is nonexistent, and the severe narrative cuts further hinder matters. The rock-and-roll violence done by Keith Levenson to a host of beloved musical numbers only adds insult to injury. If this production has any merits beyond raising funds for a worthy charity (in this case, the Children's Defense Fund), it is to remind us yet again what an incredible musical team Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg were. In the future, let's honor their achievement more appropriately--by renting a copy of The Wizard of Oz at our local video store. --David Mermelstein ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Apr 1997 17:05:03 -0800 (PST) From: "Christopher Thomas" Subject: Hello all Hello, if anyone would like to trade anything dealing with JEWEL KILCHER then please contact me immeditly.
