Nikos was born when jewel was 8 years old, therefore Nikos is 14 years old now, which doesnt matter to most of you but its a very cool fact to me becasue, well, i'm 14 also. anywho... Steve was college age (18-22) when the band formed, and jewel was in 3rd GRADE!!! thats a huge huge age difference, which if i may go TOTALLY off of the subject (wait, what WAS the subject???) isnt it strange that if they had lived in the same town when they grew up they might have never even conidered each other as date worthy (hes 13 years older... he could have been her babysitter!!!) but when you get older age seems so trivial, a ten year age difference becomes nothing between you. my parents were 8 years apart (my dad being older, dont it always work out that way?) and it seems so strange. well i'm now officially babbling... hey its 6am, i've been up all night, i think i'm entitled to bable just a little dont you? byebye birdies. I saw it, as did Lenedra too, as a gentle reminder to Jewel about what is important. =) What touched me about Daydreams was how it expressed our concerns about Jewel losing sight of what was honest and real. Isn't that the basis of all of the "popularity" threads? We asked to come out and play, she was too busy, but then she came out anyhow (JS2?). She asked if we could go to heaven, and gently, we showed her that she had lost sight of heaven, that she had forgotten that heaven was around us each and every day (people, EDAs, life). She asked us how she knew us and tenderly we were too shy to tell (is this a gentle reminder to J that the EDAs are still here?). =) Yes, this was a tribute to Jewel and how much she means to us. It extolls how much of a difference she has made in some of our lives and thanks her endlessly for her influence. There is a *GAME* out there on the internet where you can buy stock on virtually any celebrity. It runs just like the stock market and stuff. You can buy, sell, and trade stock. I found out about it through my friend who is a big Niki Taylor fan. He was telling me about the *GAME* and He knew I was a big Jewel fan. So he was like there is stock in Jewel but it was way expensive. I think it is at 85.75 points today. I just got through visiting the site and registered and stuff. You start out with 10,000 points and get an additonal 5,000 points if you answere some more questions. I bought 150 shares in Jewel, 50 shares in Fiona Apple, 50 shares in BUSH, and only 20 shares in Tori Amos. I ran out of points so I could not buy that many Tori Amos shares. So if you want to play this stockmarket kind of *GAME* go to http//www.roguemarket.com EDA in Houston who hopes that his stock in Jewel goes way up today. Tien p.s. Please remember this if only a game. Some are more serious than others but this is just a list of everyone whose shown an interest. As the concert gets closer, I'll have this narrowed down to the EDA's that are *for sure* going to be there. If you don't see your name here and want to go, then please e-mail me, Farr, or Christina with your info. (Their e-mail addresses are below) Or if you see any incorrect info about you on this list, please let one of us know. Each name with a "*" by it means that this person has shown interest in attending the tailgate party being held Friday, June 20. As the concert gets closer, the "tailgate EDA's list" will be narrowed down to those that are *for sure* going to attend. *If there are any EDA's in need of tickets, please e-mail Farr. He has a few extras and may be able to help out. Also, if there is anyone else with "extra" tickets, then let Farr know as well. *Any EDA's that will need a place to stay OR can offer a place for other EDA's to stay, please e-mail Farr. He is compiling a list with this info. *Anyone that needs a ride or can give a ride to others, please e-mail Christina about that. She is keeping a list of carpool info. Also, if anyone sees another person here from their area on this list, you might try just sending them a letter to arrange a ride if possible. If so, please let Christina know so she can update her list. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** ROCKFEST '97 EDA LIST *** ============================= *Angela DiIulio - Fort Worth, TX - earthsis@spindle.net Christina Ferrara - York, PA - cferrara@eagle.ycp.edu *Derrick Karacostas - Hitchcock, TX - dkaracos@marlin.utmb.edu *Farr Shepherd - Tecumseh, OK - obie1@ou.edu *Demian Blair - Pittsburgh, PA - dblair@aecnet.com *Laura Capello - Kansas City, MO - cap8116@kcmetro.cc.mo.us *John Cummings - Columbus, OH - cummings.65@postbox.acs.ohio-state.edu *Douglas Stephen Garay - Dallas, TX - dsg0001@jove.acs.unt.edu *Duff, lastname - city, state - tjtalken@aol.com *Steve Mier - Omaha, NE - e-mail address *Luke Nye - Omaha, NE - jnye@probe.net (may ride with Steve) *Dan Stark - Windsor, Ontario - danstark@MNSi.Net *Amelia Vlah (Mia) - Cleveland, OH- asv@po.CWRU.edu (riding with Dan Stark) Becca, lastname - city, state - LikeHi@aol.com Dan Bogacz - Pittsburgh, PA - (riding with John Fisher) Bill and Carrie Dallner - Chicago, IL - dallner@flash.net Tien Dang - Houston, TX - tdang2@Bayou.UH.EDU Dan Faissol - San Francisco, CA - faissol@home.com John Fisher - Cincinnati, OH - 2fishnet@concentric.net Kate Fisher - York, PA - (riding with Christina) Michael Garnett - Peoria, IL - garnett@webtv.net Katherine Hendry - Blue Point, NY - khendry@ic.sunysb.edu Karen, lastname - city, FL - KarenFL5@aol.com Rachel Martin - Manassas, VA - ramarti5@vt.edu Thomas N. I don't write much but I just wanted to say that I just saw a little special of jewel on vh1. It probably wasn't more than 7 minutes long but it was pretty cool. It showed her yodeling! That was the first time I have ever heard her yodel before! I got to say that she sounds simply amazing. I didn't know yodeling that fast was possible. They also showed jewel with her dad and mom. They sound good together. I think it was a little preview of what they are going to show Sunday night. If it was, I can't wait to see it. That's about all I wanted to say. It has got to be the fastest growing stock on the market, which is extremely exciting and tells much about the public perception of Jewel. Another of my 'investments', Val Kilmer, has grown even more. =) As Tien said, this is just a game. But a pretty kewl one at that! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Mar 1997 15:19:04 -0500 () From: Jeff Kirschner Subject: VH1 Taping Request Hi EDA's, Here in Canada, I do not receive VH1, which is really unfortunate because I would love to see the Jewel special that they are airing. As such, I have a small request. If anyone is taping the special and would be willing to make me a copy of it, please mail me privately. I would be more than happy to send a blank tape and postage to cover expenses, and would be forever grateful. Thanx for reading, take care everybody, and have a great long weekend! Simply spread some yolk on a knife, and use a fresh piece of toast as the canvas. Or if one is in a Picasinian mood, one could try to make a face out of the mess itself. So if we can buy stock in Jewel, that would be Jewel stock. Like JewelStock! Sorry, I thought it was an interesting concept. But I hope this stock in celebrities doesn't represtent a harbinger for slavery. Nevertheless I feel compelled to try my hand in this game. Matt ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Mar 1997 15:35:40 -0800 From: William E Sullivan Subject: what happened ? Hey, all look, I'm STILL sorta new around here, and my early experiences the last few weeks have been good overall. Most of the EDA population appear to be such decent folk, and I've contacted some EDA's within a reasonable driving distance from home (no showers to speak of yet ;-) ) But something really strange has been happening here lately; at least I think it's just been recent. Can a vetran out there please shed some light on this subject...... have things always been this tense ? Did I simply join the list during a lull in the storm ? I can't believe that ANY group who was brought together by the music and poetry of an artist whose message is about acceptance, love, and tolerance could be so brutally involved in trying to degrade and hurt others with their words as this list has clearly been as of late. I can appreciate that with 700+ members we're going to have differences of opinion, but isn't that when the tolerance and open-minded attitudes of this membership should be the most obvious? There have been several threads here in the last little while which I was tempted to add my 2 cents to, but after reading some replies, and the flames that followed, I thought, "why bother?" To me, that's troubling. There was a thread about the Jewel Content (or lack of) on this mailing list. Gianfranco (sorry if I misspelled) said something to the effect that talking about Jewel and NOTHING ELSE would soon become repetitive, to which someone else (forgot who, sorry) replied that if we didn't want to talk about Jewel why did we subscribe to a Jewel mailing list. Think about this carefully ; to you work, or go to school, or belong to a club, or have a family? When you are in the company of these specific groups, is the only topic of discussion your job, school, club, or family, or do you discuss other things which are important to you with these people? I tell people at work about the interesting people things on this list, so why shouldn't I be able to tell the list about who I am and what I do? Or am I just a number in a colony of robotic Jewel fans who should eat, breathe, and sleep nothing else ? *&%$$#@ !!!! Besides that, if you only want Jewel Content, as has been mentioned here COUNTLESS times, there is a moderated version of this list which contains ONLY Jewel Content. I'm sorry, but maybe you would be more content to subscribe to that list, and leave the more diverse communication to those who enjoy it. To those of you on this list who are also falling victim to the new prevailing attitude here, I sincerely apologize. To those of you out there who are going out of your way to be controversial, and provoke people, I'm sorry to say that you've won. You have accomplished what you set out to do. WE are quickly become a family falling apart, and disowning one another at an alarming rate. Believe it or not, I'm usually a pretty quiet, tolerant person but the recent attitude here has really pushed me to this, cause I THOUGHT I'd found a whole group of like-minded decent folk, but there has been so much hate, and flames, and bashing going on here that it upsets me terribly. I would have sought out a combat zone mailing list if I'd wanted this!!!!! Someone a while back said POY was a really depressing CD to listen to in a down mood, well this list is fast becoming a depressing read, even when I start out in a good mood. Again, my apologies, as I feel there should be no reason for this post in the first place, except to beg and plead with all 700+ of you out there to try and be a little more like an angel, and let love light our way. (you may have noticed my very sparse use of the word "love". To me it's not a term to be used and abused lightly.
