It was very well written. As a writer myself I found it to be very innovative in it's point of view and the way it made the reader feel like he or she was the person in the story. But, I have my reservations about the underlying implications of this very poetic, very well written story. It reminds me very much of star-worship. I am an agnostic myself but I do believe in the statement that you should have no false gods. Is not the Daydreams post an act by where Jewel is being deified? Jewel believes that we are all gods, that there is no god in heaven, but only "the godliness that resides in us all" and that "we are that to which we pray." She does not want us to pray to her. She is worthy of admiration and praise, yes, but she is not an angel in the sense that many people on this list have constructed her as. She is a human being, an extraordinary one in my opinion who has the very rare quality of the ability to affect others and to make them think. I believe that I have some of these qualities too, even if I unlike Jewel do not make people think in a positive way, I do however make them think. Jewel is a person, a young intelligent talented person, but a person nonetheless. All I am saying is, let's be careful about putting Jewel on a pedestal because the higher of a pedestal we put her on, the more precarious it becomes for her, and the further it is she could fall. Jewel is not perfect. Jewel is not a god. Jewel is not an angel. Jewel is not an icon. Jewel is not above us. Jewel is not flawless. Jewel IS a damn good lyricist and one of the best live performers I have ever seen. Jewel DOES affect me and evoke emotions in me in a way that no one has done before. Jewel DOES make me think. Jewel IS an exceptionally caring and genuine person. Let us listen to Jewel's music, love it, and be enlightened by it. Very few of us know Jewel personally. I do not want to judge her or deify her or worship her. I do not know her. What I do know is her music, some of the most beautiful, powerful, and moving music I have ever heard. Sean Hooks "I'm taking back my songs and my poetry, next time I won't be so easy to = read." - -Jewel M***** How lucky can one man get? To have written words of poetry to a = fair maiden, then face the very forces of darkness in defense of her = honor. Life is good! There is a God and she likes me I think. The = Goddess Kali looks down from the Heavens, and cries to the fair Jewel's = champion, "Sir Rich, pull thy mighty pen from it's scabbard and slay the = infidel who has defamed my lovely daughter". Rich turns to his opponent, = fire in his eyes, the battle lust beating madly in his heart. Prepare to = meet they maker oh spawn of the evil one, oh defiler of virgin maids. He = pulls the mighty pen Storm Bringer from it's ink well, thunder resounds = through the heavens, lightning sears the very air around them with = hellfire. Now, should I, "let loose the dogs of war, and cry "Havoc"? = Hmmmm. Normally I would enjoy a nice little engagement like this. Agnostics = are such ferocious opponents, after all, they've nothing to lose. No. = I'm on vacation. Sean, you know that feeling you get when your leaning = back in your chair, just about to fall backwards and then you suddenly = catch yourself upright? You should start feeling that now. I'll be nice. = After all that's what I'm supposed to be. Besides I can think of much = nicer hearts to slay then yours. I will leave you with these final thoughts. I know you do not believe = in anything. That is your right. But perhaps just for a moment you can = believe in one simple thing. The ability of all these everyday angels to = know the difference between right and wrong, light and dark, worship and = admiration. And if you don't believe, well that's the best gift the One = ever gave you my friend. It's called free will. Even if you don't = believe in us, we believe in you. And that my friend is called love. = It's not bad, you should try it sometime. My Lady Jewel, your honor is restored. Now where the hell did I park my = horse? Your friend, Rich 27 MAR 97 R. D. But of course, I've learned to deal with shit, and he's not going to intimidate me from not posting. How could he say "no offense"? It's jerks like these that people should watch out for. I've received stuff like this before, and have learned to deal with them. I hope others do the same. But everybody deserves a second chance, and I'm not going to write a flame letter back to him. I started going through my videos, making a "marathon" tape where I wouldn't repeat the SAME song twice. The "JEWEL-A-THON" tape runs a little over 2 hours, on the SP speed, and includes 27 songs. Some of the clips are from rather common shows, like DAVID LETTERMAN or JAY LENO, etc. But other clips are from concert videos, including the Innerchange Coffee House in San Diego, several 1996 Christmas Shows , AND the recent 3/2/97 "Tiny Lights" tour at the Beacon Theater in New York (INCLUDING the infamous version of POY...."HE'S A STUPID BOY".... directed at the jerk who yelled out "Take It Off" in the middle of "ALL THE ANIMALS")........... There's also some TV interviews/acoustic performances from local radio stations in Chicago, L.A., & New York. At this point I'd like to TRADE my "JEWEL-A-THON" tape. What I'm especially looking for is a video of l) the Sean-Penn-directed YOU WERE MEANT FOR ME video, AND 2) the duet JEWEL sang with her mom on LIFETIME TV's Breast Cancer program ******************************************************************* * SO, to the FIRST TWO (2) PEOPLE THAT CONTACT ME, and make * * arrangements to send a tape of BOTH the above, I will gladly * * send my "JEWEL-A-THON" ........ * ******************************************************************* I'd ALSO be interested in hearing from EDA's out there with "local" televison appearances JEWEL made while touring (that include performances OTHER THAN "Chime Bells" and "WWSYS"), OR anything else that's "UNUSUAL", Please contact me, because I MAY be interested in TRADING for these also. Hope y'all enjoy the VH-l HARD ROCK Special this Sunday. :-) Have a HAPPY EASTER, BOB ***************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Mar 1997 22:27:31 -0700 From: ehicks@flash.net Subject: Re: JEWEL-A-THON -- Looking to Trade Jewel Videos > l) the Sean-Penn-directed YOU WERE MEANT FOR ME video, > AND > 2) the duet JEWEL sang with her mom on LIFETIME TV's Breast > Cancer program > > ******************************************************************* > * SO, to the FIRST TWO (2) PEOPLE THAT CONTACT ME, and make * > * arrangements to send a tape of BOTH the above, I will gladly * > * send my "JEWEL-A-THON" ........ * > ******************************************************************* You might have a hard time finding 2 people who have both of these... *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Mar 1997 00:38:59 -0500 (EST) From: JenAngel57@aol.com Subject: JC:RollingStone I just heard on the radio that Jewel was being photographed today for the cover of RollingStone :) love you madly Jen :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Mar 1997 01:14:35 -0800 From: John-Eric Subject: Necessary Evils list #1 Ack!
