I don't know if this is still the case but please consider this possibility when writing your posts. I've had a chance to meet a lot of EDA's and I don't believe that any of them would ever try to profit at the expense of another EDA. Unfortunately, it only takes a few to ruin things for everyone. Some of you don't seem to realize (or care) how lucky we are to have the contacts that we do. I'm not trying to flame any one and if that's the impression I'm giving I apologize. I think one of our biggest downfalls is that we tend to think of everyone on the list as an " angel " and that is not always the case. I was reading through a newsgroup for the first time today and there is most definitely plenty of people willing to pay for Jewel material out there. If you feel the need to sell commercially available items at a profit this might be the best place to do it. DO NOT, however, sell any tapes you obtain from list members. I've been a little leary of all the newbies asking for Jewelstock tapes. As was mentioned before these are a gift from Jewel to us. If these were to ever make it out as a bootleg I'd be willing to bet we'd be shut out of any future projects. Someone was kind enough to make them for me so I'm not in any way suggesting we shut people out. I'm merely suggesting you take some time to get to know the person and always keep in mind the possible consequences. Hopefully we can get an " official " list policy on selling items for a profit (if there isn't already one) and we won't have to worry about this any more. I know, your Klingon blood boils with the taste of battle, but you two warriors are not enemies. :) Chad, you are correct that there is no legal limitation on personal use of recordable media. You miss the point. Jewel's management (and Jewel herself) have said it themselves. They themselves have provided us (and yes, US, meaning the whole list) with much of the source material for tapes, including all the Jewelstock material. They specifically indicated that everyone needed to agree that the tapes stay within the list, and that NO ONE but original seeds would use digital media. Whether or not we think they are right, by laying claim as a list member to these recordings, you must accept the terms laid down. All the original tree members agreed to this as well. If you do not agree to their terms, you refuse participation in the sharing. They both were recorded, and a three tape set was treed in September. We will certainly not know the fate of the 4th tape until after her new CD is released, and the last we officially heard was that would be late fall to early next year. IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND! The tapes came with rules straight from Jewels' management (Lenedra). I will just spell out the rules and will not get into the reasons for them. 1) It is/was to be a one-time ONLY tree. Once it was treed, we could NEVER tree it again. 2) The tapes are only available in standard audio cassettes. NO DATS, no VHS Hi-Fi. So please don't ask anymore. I don't mean that to sound harsh, but we've had this rule since day one, and we still get DAT requests from folks who were on the list back then. Of course, 'newbies' could not have known. :) 3) ONLY list members could and still can get the tapes. This means you are not to copy them for your mother, sister Bess, a neighbor or anyone unless they are subscribed to the list. I will admit I did not know this request was made and while it IS a bit unorthadox, still it is right there in sorta-black on sorta-whitish and I'll admint I was wrong. Sorry. ;) Tape only by request of the rightful owners, I can live with that. Now, why didn't those others who attacked me just come out and say that in the first place? Thanks for the info Farr. Follow me for a minute. The auction could be positive in one of two ways. One is that rather than searching for a year or more wasting time looking for the CD the auction enables someone to get the CD immediately. This could save someone many hours of looking and possibly outrageous phonebills. Another thing that could be worse than the auction is if someone put the CD up for sale for a sum such as $100. While the auction may go this high I doubt it will. Putting the CD for sale at $100 dollars might be high but all it is is a different number than $40 or $50. It would elimanate the auction but I doubt people would be happy if someone sold the CD for that high a price. I also think the first come first served idea is okay except if someone is on the Digest form they might receive the message 8 hours after it was posted. Just a few points to ponder. JEWEL DOES NOT WANT US TO make our own CD's of her material. She'll stop allowing us to copy and distribute her tapes if we start burning our own CD's. She is perfectly right in doing that. YOU are part of the "few" trying "to ruin things for everyone else", to use your words. And you are trying deflect blame from yourself with your ridiculous statements. I'd rather not have to get into all of this with you.
