Anyone familiar with Jethro Tull could you please tell me what the LP "Thick as Brick" is all about. What is the song about? Or is it just a bunch of jumbled ideas? Next could a RUSH fan tell me what "The Fountain of Lameneth" is about. By now I am sure you are saying why do I want to know this stuff. For the simple reason that I find music much more enjoyable when it's meaning is clear to me. For example RUSH's "2112" and "Hemispheres" are great songs both with a powerful message. MrBB I would also like to urge people to please not be greedy, it's really very un-EDA like. It's unfortunate enough that stores are charging obscene amounts for Jewel promos and stuff now that she has become more popular. I think it's really poor form if any one of us starts to do it and can call themselves an EDA afterwards. If you're in a position to need to sell something in order to help someone else who's in need becauase of health or disaster, that's one thing. But if you're just reading the writing on the wall and trying to milk people for all they've got because you're just greedy, that's quite another. Please try to put yourself in the shoes of someone who loves Jewel, but starts to see EDAs doing this. What message is that sending? Most importantly it reveals more about the person who's greedy than he or she may have ever intended to reveal. It says a lot about one's true self. As one of my friends is fond of saying to his customers, "Stop being a greedy ba****d!" In the end, honesty will give you more than all the short-term profits greed could ever give you. Are they playing at all of Jewel's Concerts? And also do they have some web pages or somehting, so I could DownLoad some of there music to hear it. It was a response i got for telling everyone how much i enjoyed being on the list. It was followed by multiple sights i should refer to about Netiquette and basically an INCREDIBLY LONG lecture about how people should ONLY post 100% Jewel content at all times. So does everyone who posts NJC get this kind of response? i really want to know. If it was 100% Jewel content always, i think the list would get pretty boring. That's why I unsubscribed to the Ani DiFranco list, cause it was all Ani at all times and no one seemed to have any personality. it was just like, "Ani has blond hair today". stuff like that. I didn't get a sense of community or family like I get from the EDAs. So that along with listening to Jewel Stock over and over and over, led me to want to write a little something about how much i love being on this list. and then i get the response i did. oh well, i guess i still have faith in all you other angels. i guess it's just depressing to know there are list Nazis like that out there who get off on belittling others. bye for a while, ashley ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Mar 1997 10:51:46 -0600 From: "Trudeau, Tony" Subject: MP3, CDRom >---------- >From: Trudeau, Tony >Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 1997 10:27 AM >To: 'B E Casteel' >Subject: RE: .MP3, CDRom > >> Chad wrote: >> > >> > Hrm... For those who have recently posted regarding their ability to burn CD's: Please think before you post such inflammatory messages. The very nature of such a veiled threat to Jewel's music on this mailing list will make it increasingly difficult for Jewel and Lenedra to approve of our continued treeing of high quality analog cassette tapes. You may think it cute now, or not care, or just NOT be thinking, but you are going to eventually cost everyone on this list open access to new, live material by Jewel. And whether you do that because you're stupid or just a "mean person who sucks" won't matter. You'll end up screwing us all. - -- Dennis Harris, who wishes the list could get back to discussing Jewel, EDAs and things that are positive again... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Mar 1997 12:11:23 -0500 (EST) From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: NJC: Stick That Linoleum... ***Greg, proud owner of an extra copy of STL, continues to spam and taunt our list: >>Sorry to all those who object, but I'm having an online auction... One guy is a huge Radiohead fan, so he realizes how some Jewel fans might get mad....Sorry About All This<< Gee Greg, if you feel so compelled to apologize for this action, WHY DO IT? I have already side posted Greg about this one several days ago. My advice was to sell it at cost plus postage to the FIRST to ask and follow through in a prompt manner. But Greg has mistakenly chosen to take the sharing, open nature of this list and relegate it to a "I have an ice cream, and you don't -- but I'll let everyone beg for it if they want to!" travesty. Tacky, tasteless and unfortunate. Take this one private, Greg. Please. And you folks out there trying to get Greg's copy -- let him keep it! There are others available, and I can't imagine looking at this copy of STL and having the memory of all the butt-kissing that it took to get it! (Not to mention the foul taste it'll leave in your mouth.) If he can't listen to his Jewel list peers, at least Greg could listen his Radiohead friend, who even has the sense to realize this course of action will be met with hostility by OUR community. This gross commercialism belongs on other music lists, where feelings for each other is secondary. Not here, my angels. Just an opinion, but a strong one. - -- Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Mar 1997 12:15:53 -0500 From: wdb@obl.bidmc.harvard.edu (William D. They are places that buy/trade used Cd's... Why not try that..or if they are in bad shape...make art.... Anyway, these are just some of my positive thoughts on the whole situation.. there are always better alternatives.... You know, you could make a little wind chime thing with them or put them in a collage or something like that... You could even put the in a scrap book and say to your grandchildren one day when CD's are obsolete, "These songs are the oldie's, NIN was my favorite one, I listened to it all of the time...Maybe I can find that old CD player around here..somewhere. Its probaby old and dusty by now.." Well, anyway, Have a peach of a day! Laura ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #219 ***************************
