What I am trying to say is, any performer whether they do most of their shows acoutic(unplugged) or with everything"plugged in" should consider MTV Unplugged as a plus for themselves, and for their fans, as I bet many fans of Jewel would love to have this done.....I am a big fan of Jewel and if any performance comes up with her, I am going to watch it.....so to end it, I disagree when you say she should be doing a plugged in. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 11:27:44 -0500 From: Gianfranco Covello Subject: RE: Rockfest, thank you, misc. Since the Great Lawn at Central Park is, well, so great, we'd probably have a hard time finding each other there. So, why don't we meet at the entrance to the park at Columbus Circle? It's closer to the subway, at least. I'll plan to wear a green polo shirt as well as a have a bright yellow windbreaker with a hood, so that you can find me easily. In case of rain, get an umbrella. No, seriously, if it's raining, across Broadway, near the Colisseum (sp?), there's the entrance to the 59th St. subway station (it has escalators). Let's meet there. Time: I would say 10:00? That way, we can go to brunch somewhere. Bring: whatever you want. I'd like to say a frisbee to throw in the park, but I sprained my ankle Friday, so you'll have to throw it RIGHT at me. (Jared, please remember the shirt!) Attendees: Right now, a nice, small group consisting of: Thirza, Jared / SDAngel, me (Bill), Russ, and Kerry (?) Magee, possibly (heh, that rhymes). Anyone else who wants to join us, please e-mail me. I'll be in LA this week, so I may not reply right away. Or, just meet us at 10am on Sunday morning (Easter), and we'll all go out to Easter brunch, or at least bring some stuff into the park to eat. Let me know what other ideas you might have, as I'm an engineer, and thus naturally imagination-challenged. A great thing and nothing I'll forget for a good 90 years. And so the force that chalanges that must also be somthing that will change my life in a less sutle way. Ok, well, seems that I will not have much time left with you guys. The reason for this: I soon won't have the ability to get on the internet (and thus, no E-mail). The reason for that: I'm kicked out of my lifing space a week from today. Now, I have no money and nowhere to go, I have a shity job where I hardly get hours. I have nothing in saveings because my mother felt the need to clear all of that out to pay her bills (yet she has money for all her rectreational shit, isn't that odd?). I'm normally very quiet, so here goes. CHICAGO Meeting EDA's for the first time is kind of intimidating, I just didn't know what to expect. Didn't get much of a change to talk with everyone, but, hey, little steps :). The concert was interesting. I was amazed by the crowd composition - average age of around 15, and mostly female. (Myself being a 30! y/o male.) I was disappointed with the noise level, and much to the chagrin of my girlfriend, I had to ask a group of young ladies to stop chatting during songs. Jewel was wonderful. Rugburns were great. Patty Griffin Saturday Night was the Patty Griffin/Freedy Johnston/Shawn Colvin show. Patty was fantastic, although I think she got cut a little short. Chicago has this wonderfully stupid law which is an "Entertainment Curfew". You can't have an event last past 11:00 unless it's in a bar. So, PG, FJ & SC had until 11:00. They should have started at 7 or 7:30!. Freedy Johnston was good, but I'm not as familiar with his work. Shawn Colvin sang a song with patty and with Freedy, then came on herself. She is an amazing entertainer - She had some wonderful stories, and her rapport with the crowd was fantastic. She played from 9:15 until 11:00, then came out and did three more songs. Great show, great entertainer. Springsteen Recent conversations about The Boss neglected to include the fact that he one a Grammy this year for Tom Joad. - Best Contemporary Folk Album. Whew! Chris! Jewel borrowed the dress, which was 14,000 dollars according to the source I read, but that's only a 1,000 dollar difference so it's minor. Anyway, I think she said something about how she "couldn't believe I'm in such an expensive dress, I usually buy clothes from Salvation Army" or something like that. - -tim 'burkeman' ___________________________________________________ E Tim Burke E tburke@mail.heidelberg.edu D STINKY: "What are we listening to?" It was better than I had ever imagined. However, when I got to meet Jewel after the show out by her tour bus, I was even more impressed. It was obvious she was tired are really wanted to get going, but she still stuck around for almost half an hour talking her fans that had waited for nearly an hour to see her. I expected her to be much less friendly and cordial than she was. She gladly gave autographs to everyone. She signed my ticket, and before she boarded her bus, gave me a hug! I couldn't believe it. What other artist even bothers to talk to their fans when they could just leave, much less thank them for coming and give them a hug. It was an experience I will always remember, and just wanted to share it with you all. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 16:51:41 -0600 From: audrey Subject: KCshow Did anyone go to the Kansas City Mar.22 show??????
