The show was like no other concert I've ever seen. Atmosphere was completely different than anything else I've ever experienced. Heard a few "yodels", thankfully didn't hear the "take it off". The only problem I had (which really isn't THAT big of a problem) is that she didn't do "Don't". But the fact that she did "Adrian" and I didn't expect her to made up for that. Didn't get there early enough to see any other EDAs, besides Michelle who sat only 4 rows up from me. Well as you can tell from how choppy this is getting I'm tired so I'm going to close for now. The Rev mentioned some things about Kabbalism that aren't quite accurate. Ceremonial Magick does exist in most, if not all, religions, including monotheistic ones, such as Judaism. However, it is untrue that the Kaballah (the field in Judaism that deals with such matters) dates back to the days when Jews were Pagan, as by definition Jews were not Pagan (Paganism being politheistic, which is the very thing that separated Judaism from the rest of the world). While it is rooted in various ancient rituals and the such, the Kabbalah was established far after the beginning of the current era (CE, AD), by Rabbi Nachman of Uman. Angels are also mentioned in the Old Testament, in various places, with different meanings. They can be interpreted to mean various things. First, there the straight forward meaning, Mal'ach (angel) being ancient Hebrew for messanger. During the creation, God says 'Let us create man in our image' (sorry if that's not what your bible says, I'm try to translate as directly as possible from what I remember), the plural often being interpreted as being God and the angels, mentioned also as his 'celestial entourage', and so on and on. Currently the most popular interpretation is that the angels are merely different facets of God. Then again, this doesn't stop them from having personalities or wills of their own, God being more complex then we can understand. These personalities, or purposes are reflected in their names (Gavriel (from Gever - man), Rephael (from Rephua - medicine) - the angel in charge of doctors and health, Michael (Mi Camocha El - Who is like you God?), and of course, Satan (from Sitna - hatred), and others). I reaqlize this has been kinda long, but I hope it has proved interesting, at least for some :) 42, Tuff - TIE (the Israeli EDA) On Sat, 15 Mar 1997 NSCLI4663@ALPHA.NSULA.EDU wrote: > Cerimonial Magick is in fact an > offshoot of anciant Jewish Cabalism...dateing back to the times when Jews > where pagan much as the rest of the world was. > Ashe mentioned Angels and said that they where variations on all relegions. > (Or at least I think that was what she was getting at) Again this is not > exactly true. Steve on Ol' Yeller. One (or more) 'burn was on stage for probably half of the 20 songs. If so, that would mean that between their own 11-song set and their help during Jewel's set, the final score would be 21-20 in favor of the Rugburns. Hmmm. They're going to have to make them co-headliners. ;) 1 hour, 34 minutes. bob ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Mar 1997 15:21:41 -0500 (EST) From: DRotter154@aol.com Subject: Columbus show--please read Well it was everything I expected and more...Unfortunately I didnt get to meet any EDAs at Wendys cause of the rents--and michelle Im VERY sorry I missed you--I did come and look -but there was no seat listed as D 5,7,9,11. I have always felt this way, but never had the urge to say this because everyone keeps says "oh, yippee, jewel's near the top on billboards and MTV", "Isn't it cool that Jewel is nominated for 2 Grammy’s" or "That bitch leanne rymes beat jewel, how, jewel is so much better" (i know these are not exact quotes and if they are yours i'm sorry, i'm not trying to point fingers, or i guess that's pretty hard her he, he, he :)) *please continue reading, i know its long* I personally, hated the fact she was up for the Grammy’s and am glad she did not win! She is too popular as it is! Why do you think we have so many people at her concerts screaming "yodel", or "play Jessica", and Jewel must respond "shut up" (Toronto '97) Maybe i'm greedy and want to keep Jewel for myself and only a few EDA's like us! Look at phish and blues traveler. Phish have never made a video (okay a short lived one for down with disease) never had a top ten hit, never nominated for a grammy, but can sell out MSG (Madison Square Gardens) easily. They are free to play what ever songs they want, if they don't want to play a fan favorite like Llama or David Bowie for a whole month, no problem. Ever phish fan respects them and does not want them to be popular. Blues Traveler used to be like this!! Until 'run-around' came up on their new CD. They now are "expected" to play that song almost every show, where it is one of the lest favorites by true BT fans. They are getting lots of radio play and are also filling MSG. But a true BT fan may be miles away and a guy second row will be yelling "play run-around, i've never heard this before and it's too instrumental!!" Jewel will be like this but to more of an extreme, she will never be able to play a show without wwsys or ywmfm, like the Toronto star critic said, "she didn't even play her hit until the encore" (sorry not exact quote)! Lets keep Jewel playing the small "Danforth music Hall" holding a little over 1000 people, but next time she'll be playing Massy hall approx. 10000. We won't be able to have our little intimate concerts we get now! She won't be able to say, "what do you guys want to hear????" infrount of 10000 people, and do you think 10000 people can all be quite at the same time....fat chance. Come on folks, i know we have no say on haw popular our angel will get, it's up to her and her company, and in reality the inhabitants of this planet, but come'on we want her to stay where she is, she won't have to move back into her van you know!! flame away...... I just joined the list and I don't have said "poetry book"... but I really love this poem of Jewel's that I've posted below. In fact I loved it so much I wrote one to answer it... Hope you all don't mind my feeble attempt... But her poem inspired me so much that I couldn't help it... I KNOW I'm not the first to be inspired by Jewel!
