For those who DON'T KNOW the song, it is "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang, one of the first and most influential early rap groups. Rapper's Delight was a big deal in the 80's because it LASTS 14 MINUTES AND 16 SECONDS! So, to give you an idea, I decided to post VERSE ONE. This is approximately 4-5 minutes on CD out of 14:16. It is sung between 3 guys. You may notice a lot of well-known rhymes in this..... THIS IS THE ORIGINAL. Anywhere you've heard this after 1986 got it from these guys. Now, for your musical history lesson: [SCROLL DOWN for AMAZEMENT] :-) I said a hip, a hop, a hippie, a hippie to the hip hip hop and you don't stop a-rockin' to the bang, bang the boogie, set up on the boogie to the rhythm of the boogity-B. Now what you hear is not a test start rappin to the B. And me, the groove and my friends are gonna try to move your feet. Ya see, I am WONDERMIKE and I'd like to say hello. To the black, to the white, the red and the brown, the purple and yellow, but first, I gotta... bang bang to the boogie, to the boogie, set up on the boogie to the bang bang boogie, let's rock... ya don't stop, rock the rhythm that'll make your body rock. Well, so far you've heard my voice, but I brought two friends along, and next on the mic is my man Hank, c'mon Hank, sing that song. Check it out, I'm the C-A-S AN the O-V-A and the rest is F-L-Y. Y'see I got more clothes than Mohammed Ali and I dress so viciously. I got bodyguards, I got two big cars that definitely ain't the WHACK, I got a Lincoln COntinental and a sharp new cadillac. So after school I take a dip in the pool which is really on the wall. I got a color tv so I can see the NICKS play basketball, hear me talkin' bout checkbook creditcard, MO MONEY than any sucker could ever spend. But I wouldn't give a punk or a _________ not a dime till I made it again, everybody say: Hotel Motel "Whatcha Gonna Do Today?" SAY WHAT? Say I'm gonna get a fly girl, gonna GET SOME SPANK and drive off in a DEF O.J. Everybody go Hotel Motel Holiday Inn, I said if you're girl starts actin' up, then you take her friend. Master Gee, my mellow is on you, so whatcha gonna do? Well, it's on-and-on-on and on-on and on, the beat don't stop until the break of dawn. I said a M-A-S, a T-E-R, a G with a double E. I said I go by the unforgettable name of the man they call the Master Gee, well, my name is known all over the world by all the foxy ladies and the pretty girls. I'm goin' down in history as the baddest brother there ever could be, now I'm feelin the highs and youre feelin the lows, the beat starts pumpin into your toes. You start pumpin your fingers and shufflin your feet, and movin your body while you're sittin in your seat and then D@MN, you start DOIN THE FREAK, I said a D@MN, right out of your seat. Then you throw your hands high in the air. You're rockin to the rhythm, shake your derriere. You're rockin to the beat without a care with the sure-shot MC's for the affair. Now I'm not as tall as the rest of the gang, but I rap to the beat just the same. I got a little face and a pair of brown eyes, over here the two ladies is hypnotized singin on-and-on-on and on-on and on, the beat don't stop until the break of dawn. I said on-on-and-on and on-on and on like a pop-didily pop de pop de pop, baby baby pop de pop pop, you don't dare stop, come alive y'all and give me what you got. I guess by now you can take a hunch and find that I am the baby of the bunch but that's okay I still keep in stride 'cause all I'm here to do is just a wiggle your behind singin' on-and-on-on and on and on, the beat don't stop until the break of dawn. Singin on-and-on-on and on-on and on, white rock y'all, get on the floor. I'm gonna FREAK you here, I'm gonna FREAK you there, I'm gonna move you out of this atmosphere, cause I'm one of a kind and I'll shock your mind, put the get-get-get in your behind, said a one-two-three-four, c'mon girls get on the floor, come alive y'all, give me what you got, cause I;m guaranteed to make you rock, said a 1-2-3-4, tell me WONDERMIKE what are you waiting for? (i'm reading all of my list mail very late) !!! That is like, alot like what happened to me: (sorry if all y'all have heard this story a million times before) my Exboyfriend, Paul, was really good friends with a girl who was a semi-friend of mine named Nicole. They rode the same bus and had been friends for alot longer than I had known Paul. Nicole told her friends that she loved Paul as a brother, and Paul loved her as a sister. They would sit together at lunch and at school assemblies, because I didn't hang around with him much, because I was under the impression that it irritated him if I hung around him too much. I would tease him and say "flirt!!" but I was kidding because I knew that he was only friends with her. So everything went fine and dandy until one day I was talking to Michael Bruce (my love :) ) on the phone, and the subject of Nicole came up. "Paul likes her, you know" he said "No he doesn't!! He loves her as a sister and that's all!!" i said "He's my best friend.. I know him better than you. He likes her but he likes you too, and he's not sure weather to go for her or stay with you." I didn't believe Mike because I thought I knew Paul.. which was stupid because I was only his girlfriend and I had only met him 2 months earlier, and Mike had been his best friend for a long time. So i just said that it wasn't true, and then I asked Paul about it and he said that Mike was just making it up to make me mad. So I ignored her and Paul... Until one Monday, it was the first time I had even heard of it, Mike told me that there was some trouble going on with Paul. I talked to paul about it and he said taht absolutely nothing was wrong... Then.... We had been going out for exactly 9 weeks.. nothign was different that day... Paul sat with Nicole at lunch. But I looked at them and it looked like they were almost snuggling.. I went up to my friend V and said "My boyfriend is a superslut--find out what's up!" So she went over and sat by them and tried to seperate them.. niether would move, they just got closer. I confronted Paul later and he wouldn't even talk to me.. so going to class, me and V were talking. She said: "Your just BLIND not to see that there is somethign between them!!" and I said "there IS NOT!!!!!!!!!!"(I was loyal to the end...) that night... Mike called me and told me that paul had chosen Nicole over me... Paul dumped me the next Tuesday, and by Friday, they were going out. When we had first started going out, there was nothign at all between them at all... but since I let him go on with his "flirting", somethign DID start between them. If I would have acted like I actually cared and asked him to stop, maybe I could have prevented it... (of course, I take pleasure in the fact that I knew all along they wouldn't work out... they went out for 3 weeks before paul dumped her... what a superslut) anyway, life and love sucks... which is why I have Michael my love... Hello everyone, I just wanted to tell you all about my incredible evening, and since Jewel played in my "backyard" I get to be the first to tell you all about this evening, hee hee. I'll keep this pretty short, I know everyone else who attended the Columbus show is going to give their takes, but here's mine: First, I arrived at the backstage entrance around three. For those of you wanting to meet and talk to Jewel I strongly recomend that you try to catch her just before her soundcheck, which has usually been around four. Anyway, I stood in the alley freezing my butt off for almost 45 minuets when I saw Liz, Shelly, and Tim talking to Steve Poltz and Stinky of the Rugburns. So I managed to get both of their autographs, uh Steve and Stinky that is. :) Then about 15 minuets later, Jewel's bus pulls up and I anxiously await for her to get out. After about 15 minutes she gets out but is quickly escorted in. Damn I missed her! So I hang around outside for about 15 to 20 more minutes hoping that she'll come out. Keep in mind that it's only 24 degrees and the wind is blowing very strongly. So I finally decide that this is going nowhere, and that it's a total lost cause right? Wrong! I left 10 minutes too early!!! That's right, she came out 10 minutes after I left. I was cold, numb, and pissed at myself!! Anyway, I made it over to the Wendy's, where I met up with some of my other internet friends, and managed to get kicked out because they were apperantly closed. It was only 5:30, what the hell?!! So we walked over to the Palace and hung out for awhile, got something to eat and then walked back to the backstage area. When who should come bouncing out the stage door? That's right, Jewel! Once again, I didn't get an opportunity for an autograph, but at least I got in a couple of waves and a few words for a conversation. So the few of us there were, walked back around to the front of the theatre, where we hooked up with Liz, Shelly, Michelle, and Tim. After a few minutes the doors opened and we all found our seats. The Rugburns opened, and boy did they open! I almost peed my pants from laughing so hard! Steve was so great, and Stinky did a great job at adding to the humor. Those of you who have seen the Rugburns perform probably know what I'm talking about, if you haven't seen them, you've got to! Jewel then came on soon after. She looked great! She was wearing a black v-neck t-shirt with black stretchy like pants. What can I say, she just looked awesome! Needless to say, her performance was just as great. There was no evidence from what I could tell that she was having any problems with her voice, she played a bunch of new stuff like "Down" which just rocks, and the crowd seemed to pretty much control themselves with only a couple "I love you's" and one "take it off" which I don't think she heard over the crowd. Likewise to my benifit, no one yelled out "yodel." I'll let the others get more into the specifics of the set list, I don't want to take up all the light :) After the show, we all met up in the lobby, where I got John's signature. So there you go, I managed to get all three of the Rugburn's signatures. Anyway, Jewel didn't come out front, so I didn't get her to sign my picture of her in her VW Van. Bummer! :( At least I got a night of fun and excitement, and got to meet some of my fellow EDA's :) Take Care. As I said in my previous post, she's touring with Shawn Colvin and Freedy Johnstone. If you can't surf the Web and want the dates, Email me PRIVATELY and I'll send them to you. (It seems like she's hitting many of the same cities that Jewel is on her present tour) FYI to the new folk out there, Patty has ALOT of fans on this list as she mesmerized the audience at JewelStock last July when she opened for Jewel on the first night of the two shows.
