I can already tell them it won't work, for these reasons: 1. The CC list has been around a month or so. Therefore, no one knows each other and people don't have the 'bond' that makes us EDAs special. 2. They don't have the essential link between the list and the performer. I don't think Counting Crows even know there is an email list talking about them. We of course (we meaning EDAs) had Hiranya. 3. Jewel is a person who appreciates her fans and the fact she is doing what she loves for a living. For that reason, she went out of her way to make JewelStock reality. Adam Duritz of Counting Crows almost seems to think that fame and fans are the worst thing that ever happened to him. What does it all mean? It means that each and every one of us is deeply involved in something special: something that cuts across lines of sex and race, lines of age and background. It means that even though we have the occasional "Get me off this list!" post, it happens much less frequently than other mailing lists. It means that we have the sporadic argument among members, but that we're able to use our sense and experience to settle them and learn from other people's opinions, which we are each entitled to have. As many of us see and prepare to see Jewel perform for the first or umpteenth time, I think we should all maybe reflect again on how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy each other's company- live or by way of e-mail. Subj: VH1 Artist of the Month Date: 97-03-06 10:21:12 EST From: VH1POSTAL Hi guys. I just want to make sure you know that Jewel's is VH1's Artist of the Month for March. We'll air the Women First special she hosted last year this Sunday from 1:00-5:00 PM (EST). We have some interview clips that are shown throughout the day, AND.... we'll premiere her recent performance for the new series on VH1 called Live at The Hard Rock Cafe on Sunday March 30 at 8:00 PM and 1:00 AM. She taped this concert in NYC last weekend, and I was lucky enough to be there. She was incredible, in rare form. Funny, sweet, sexy, and breautiful.. I've seen her before and she just blows me away. The audience loved her (and treated her with respect, unlike at the Beacon, so I've heard). So I highly recommned this special to all Jewel fans, and I think that anyone who hasn't been turned onto her yet will soon see why her music is so special. Enjoy guys. Well, now I don't feel bad saying that "Adrian" is _excruciating_ to listen to. After a few verses, the song gets tedious musically as the lyrics show Adrian's situation growing increasingly futile. At the 6-minute mark you realize that the entire thing illustrates the pain and tedium of caring for a helpless individual. By the end, the tedium leads to despiration as the vocal trails off, leaving no end to the story. Adrian is still there, with friends, family and doctors trying to reach him, giving them nothing more than a pulse. It's probably the same way from Jewel's point of view. You have to put forth an effort to listen to this one. Jewel has to put forth a _lot_ of effort to play this one through. Trying to remember all those verses is a challenge, and playing through the same changes for some seven-to-ten minutes is probably tiring. Also imagine having to sing for seven minutes straight, without a guitar break or some other musical divider to give her a chance to sip some water. Yesterday, I spent some five hours talking to various people during a site visit. I wasn't able to carry a water bottle with me, so my only respite was the occasional slurp from the water cooler. Do you guys know how dry your mouth gets from all that talking? Now think of Jewel singing for an extended period of time. That's probably one reason why she dodges "Adrian" now. If you hear her peform the song, clear your mind and brace yourself, 'cause this is probably the hardest thing Jewel will have to do all night. I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S @$$!!! so for the people who want me off the list, i think i'll stay....just for you. because i know somewhere in the "please get off the list" and "you annoy me," there's at least a glow of love. hehehehehe. And that's the bottom line cuz Cricket said so! =) Cricket ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 1997 21:39:20 -0500 (EST) From: She Who Is Subject: Re: ARRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard that last night's was canceled because of her pneumonia(sp?), and I know that doesn't just go away in two nights - and I don't want to drive from Rochester to Ontario and find out it's canceled at the door -- HELP -- what have you heard, where can I call? Those options cost more, but nearly all of 'em arrive safely and quickly. UPS ground is only marginally better than the post office though. :-( My company generally uses UPS to ship merchandise - they're not good but, scary as it is, we can find no one better. But a customer called once just to let us know one of our boxes got there with six bullets shoved in under the box flap. There are a limited number of these to go around and an unlimited demand. Therefore the market sets the value, like Alanis's first two albums and Y Kant Tori Read this album is well on it's way to over $100 value if it isn't already. $11-15? I just wanted to let you know that there is a Jewel article in this week's issue of Scene magazine (it is a free music magazine that is distributed around the Cleveland area). Pick it up if you get a chance. Not much new info but the article is about a page long. For those of you in other parts of the world, you can view the article at Scene's website at www.clevescene.com. Just go to this week's issue and you'll find it. Well, that's enough from me.
