WWSYS was released in early '95 and the Juan Patino version of YWMFM was released in about January of '96. Since the Juan Patino version didn't go over well, they(whoever they are) decided to focus more on WWSYS, which became a hit and then they released the album edit of YWMFM in August. I hope this clears things up. I know that this is right because I first heard WWSYS in the summer of '95 and the Juan Patino version of YWMFM didn't make its debut appearance on VH1 until the day before she performed live on Crossroads (which was late January, early February of '96) Have a great day ~LIz I know that it sounds cliche, but I'm tired of all this violence ~Steven J. I just joined the group and wanted to say hello, and to let you know about the best concert i have ever been to.....Jewel with the Rug Burns on February 24th at SUNY Geneseo....2 days before the Grammys...She was awesome, funny, witty, beautiful, and touching...If you haven't seen her live, i reccommend it!!! It was the best 12 bucks i've ever spent in my life, excluding her album, of course!!! Her performance got mixed reviews...the audience either hated it, were indiferent, or LOVED it like i did.... Her rendition of Foolish Games was incredible, and she sang YWMFM with the lead singer of the Rug Burns.....the ultimate concert.....I would pay incredible amounts of money to see her again. Oh yeah, and one more thing... LeAnn Rimes??? I think not. Jewel Kilcher is obviously the best choice for BEST NEW ARTIST.....can't wait for the release of her next album. What is the best way to tape a conert. I went to the local eletronics store today and say two items in my price range. The first was a SONY professional walkman for about $248.00 the second was a Phillips DCC (digital compact cassette) Price was $278.00. I've actually borrowed the Sony Walkman before and it did do the job. The question is that I've read about the DCC's before but I really don't know too much about them. What I do know is that they are supposed to tape exactly like a DAT but can also use regular tapes as well. The price for a digital recording device is usually around the $500.00 ball park, this on the other-hand is only $278.00, It is much more affordable but just a smidge larger than a portable DAT recorder. If the quality is the same, I'd rather save $250.00 and go with the DCC. The only problem is that I don't think may of you even know what one is. I hope Alan or Dan have some input in helping me make a decision. An EveryDayAngel, Bryan. I don't like it. Others may or may not agree. I have my opinion, and more importantly I have my money with which I can choose to buy a Jewel CD or another artist. She is in the public eye, she needs to think about that. I love Jewel's music. And hopefully, it will remain her music. Tony T. About the 'windshield wipers', in the cbc radio concert on saturday she talked about her father's eybrows and how long they got in his old age. So when he yoddled he would move his head up and down or side to side and they looked like windshield wipers.(I did not actually see this performance so maybe someone who did can give a better explanation). I just thought I'd borrow Sean's clever -- however inflammatory -- headline. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, eh? ;) While I generally agree with Sean's opinion (in THIS post anyway), this type of thread is the LEAST positive aspect of this list. It shows the shallowness of our society, the objectification of women and just how far the halo can be knocked askew on so-called "EveryDay Angels". Whether it's someone agonizing over: 1) Jewel wearing a revealing dress (Letterman/Grammys) 2) Jewel wearing more makeup (appropriate to the entertainment industry, BTW) for a change (Letterman/Grammys) 3) Jewel "doing it" with (fill in rumored person here), OR 4) Jewel being something "other" than totally heterosexual (that freaking rainbow-colored belt and the "Dance Between Two Women" song) ...it shows a small-minded, petty aspect of our very nature. Yes, I'm on a soapbox, and no, I am NOT "without sin" either. This just hits me as something for us to ponder after I watched Providence College folks abuse Jewel last night throughout the evening with shouts of "YODEL!" during soft songs and continuous non-stop bar-level talking by much of the crowd. After numerous "ssshhhhh" attempts, references to Bud-induced behavior, direct requests for cooperation and a couple of "please leave if you're gonna talk" statements, Jewel finally pointed to our group and said something like "the EDAs know I hate it when you f*ckers shout yodel (and talk) during the soft tunes"... Then HER FATHER read these barnyard citizens the "riot act" on how you should treat a performer (when he came up to yodel with Jewel). My point? Jewel has thanked we "EveryDay Angels" many times for three specific things: 1) Our support 2) Our appreciation of her music and the respect we show her while performing, and 3) The caring, NON-GOSSIPING nature we exhibit. Yes, things like her "appearance" are part of her public performance and image, and they should be discussed reasonably. Her private life shouldn't be. I mean, how would you feel about a group of people opening discussing on the internet whether you were a "jerk" or a "slut"? Let's elevate ourselves and shed this particularly distasteful aspect of our societal "learned behavior" -- because it sucks. Big time. Think about it. And Sean, thanks for providing me a lead-in. And I'm not saying that you ARE a jerk, but sometimes I have my suspicions! ;) - -- Dennis (Aware of My Own Ignorance, But Willing to Learn) Harris p.s. Yes, Providence College was possibly the worst crowd EVER. I was shocked the rudeness and indifference exhibited by MANY of the students, who had no regard/respect for Jewel or their peers who wanted to hear her message. We have a long way to go to turn this around, folks. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 1997 12:18:17 -0500 (EST) From: Stancky@aol.com Subject: jewel and eric? Good morning EDAs I know I don't put up really meaningful posts. sorry. My favorite singers are, guess who, Ms. Jewel Kilcher and Eric Clapton. I was wondering since they kind of play the same kind of music, would they ever play together? I think they would sound really good together. Jewel even said that she liked hearing Eric at the grammys. Anyone else like the thought of Jewel and Eric playing together?? I certainly think that it would rock. Thank you all for your time =) Stancky out-------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Mar 1997 11:37:05 -0600 From: "'Rev.' I was considering posting something like that, but I'm not near as literate as Dennis.. :) (I can't believe I just wrote that in a public forum... what was I thinking??!!) Anyway, IMHO, (very humble) some of the posts (and some of the threads, too) lately have been less than 'angelic'... I know sometimes we just can't help being gossipy/judgemental, but at least it's something we can all strive for. BTW... hopefully the 'Dress', 'Makeup' and 'LeAnn' threads are pretty much dead... I hope Alan or > Dan have some input in helping me make a decision. Well, I'm not Dan or Alan ;) but... DCC is dead. Phillips threw in the towel on it late last year (hmmmm. used to have an URL around here somewhere...). Expect already high media prices to rise if they are available at all. I'm kind of surprised you found one. Most places started blowing out their DCC stuff before christmas. Quality-wise, DCC is more comparable to Minidisc than DAT as compression is used. In any event, the recorder is only half of the equation - it is just responsible for writing what it is told. The microphone(s) are the other half. GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). The Sony pro walkman I believe comes with a cheap, but respectable microphone (its been a while...). I have no idea what comes with the DCC walkman - I've never actually seen one myself. I will say that if it cannot use external microphones (ie. uses an internal mic) or does not allow for manual adjustment of recording levels, I'd give it a huge black mark. The Sony pro walkman is capable of making some very good recordings. Digital is nice, but it isn't everything. If it was me, I'd go with the Sony, my next step would be a good pair of microphones, then possibly a move to DAT/minidisc as you see fit later on. The mics will carry over and you'll be all set. just my $.02, bob ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 1997 12:59:49 -0500 (EST) From: GCove76082@aol.com Subject: Re: NJC: Sean Hooks is a jerk I agree with you entirely, except the part about Sean Hooks being a jerk because I don't know the person(but I don't think you actually meant he was a jerk anyway) Again, I agree with you and thank-you for putting this up for everybody to see and for taking a step in a long and winding road. ______________________________________________________________________ "what we call human nature in actuality is human habit" JK I think that sums it up pretty good. ______________________________________________________________________ Gian.C. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Mar 1997 13:12:51 -0500 (EST) From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: RE: Puddini Harris Well, hi, angels, I just got back from vacation and am attempting to catch up on 25 digests.
