That's a good point, hehe, maybe someday something I wrote will win a grammy, hehe. It just kinda shocked me that she won, but all the contestants were very deserving, who decides on these things anyways, do they take a vote, because if they did seeing that, Leann probably appeals to more people, especially people who listen only to country, I could see why. I guess I shoud probably apoligize for what I said, but you know what I'm not going to, I can tolerate to a point, artists doing covers of a song, or bringing back a classic, but it makes me mad, that #1 the writers get only a small amount of reconigion for it, and some is better than none, but they still are the ones who deserve it. anyone can sing,, some can sign vell, a select amount can sing absousectiknlutely ( umm, okay ammy, cut back on the cafeene a little would ya) wonderful, I'd just like to see people appresiated a little bit more, for writing, the grammies, never meant much to me, just some stupid awards show I think this was the first one I've ever even see, and it's just that writing the song, and then singing it seem to go hand in hand. Keep in mind I just got through some of my mid- terms, and I have VO and Pepsi keeping me company. Ok so Jewel didn't get a grammy, I was as dissapointed as all of you. She should have won!!!!! However it is only an award it doesn't hold any merit, as Jewel said herself. More important and to the point, as a fan of Jewel, I respect her as an artist and a person. I bought POY on Nov. 12, 1996, and 15 minuets later I bumped into the only girl I ever loved... I was stunned. But when I got home I put POY on and even through my haze the pure tones of her music were enough to touch me. My girl and I today have a better chemistry than we ever had before. Jewel through her music has helped me to expand my horizons and has inspired me to write again, something I put down for a few years. Hey it's ok to express your feelings on paper and in song. Most important ( and I hope you all feel the same) it's so simple........Jewel makes me happy!!!!!!! Her music, her philosophy, her being, and her beauty. Awards be damned, Jewel makes me happy, and just with that she has made a difference!!!!!!!! Earl PS. Anyone believe in coincidence??? I don't think that a major award >like the Grammy's would hand off responsibility to uneducated people who >in turn hand it off to their grandchildren!? Can somebody offer some >further input on this? The Grammy's are voted on by a group known as NARAS. NARAS is the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. The average member age is 45-47. I've never heard of any members "passing the buck" to the grandchildren. In fact, on Grammy night, you can usually find a few of them talking about the artists themselves. They really do listen to the music. In fact, I wish I had a soundbyte of the guy who was talking about No Doubt. He was 51 years old and was telling all about the history of the band and Gwen/Gavin and you could REALLY TELL that he was a fan. However, I hope MOST of us will agree that we all have different tastes and that it is not fair for us to force our opinions on others. This IS NOT SAYING THAT I DON'T THINK SHE DESERVED IT, This IS saying that she didn't and we go on with life. Let me leave you WITH THIS ONE LAST THOUGHT: Do you think any less of her after not receiving a Grammy? If you're answer is NO, maybe you're starting to remember why you're on the list..... we're people who love Jewel and her music..... people who love her no matter how rich or how poor and regardless of how famous (kind of like marriage---huh, have to ponder that some more...)
