Radio was not so demographically separated then so we heard George Jones and the Beatles on the same station as Wilson Pickett and Little Richard and Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Petula Clark had only that hit although I am sure she is still performing somewhere but it was an escape song -light but teeming with insight-like Jewel and Deana Carter's handiwork. The point is that the songs came from within where the beautiful song dwells and they came to share it with us. They did it with all the clarity and soul they possessed. ..So did Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and Townes Van Zandt. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Feb 1997 15:29:15 -0700 (MST) From: liam Subject: best 3 albums LIAM GALLAGHER IS GOD here are my favorite 3 albums of all time: 1. oasis - definitely maybe 2. inxs - welcome to wherever you are 3. oasis - what's the story (morning glory) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Feb 1997 17:31:13 -0500 From: Rael Subject: Re: NJC: Favorite Albums on Desert Island Todd A Werner wrote: > > A lurker strikes again... Nope, just _a_ Jewel, and probably Cubic Zirconia at best. Angels, Keep yr heads on straight, 'cos the name 'Jewel' seems to be more popular on the Internet than we thought. So as to keep everything in perspective, here are a few birdwatching tips. 1. Jewel isn't on the Internet. That means no Ms. JK logging in from her PowerBook on the road. Nada. Zilch. If she was online, Mr. BB would be unemployed :-). Any occurence of 'jewel' in an Internet e-mail address without the suffixes 'jk@aol.com' or '@smoe.org' constitutes fraud, or at least somebody who is a masochist and likes being bombarded with some celebrity's fan mail. 2. Any nude photos of Jewel are probably some adult actress trying to cash in on a famous name. Any nudes of a 'Jewel' (implying Kilcher) should be scrutinized around the face and necklines for signs of BAD PHOTOSHOP TECHNIQUE. Black and White? Disqualify immediately- this loser doesn't even know how to fix color tables. Hair and skin look like an oil painting-- Looks like they let the monkey play with the Wacom tablet again. Retouching photographs requires a lot of practice and artistic vision, which 98% of the Internet lacks. Report any occurences of these to Adobe Systems so the offender can be sent a tutorial and CD-ROM on how to actually use this reality-altering program. 3. Real pictures of Jewel do exist, but do not depict her in compromising positions. Many of these are stills from TV appearances. Note: there's this one guy in alt.binaries.pictures.celebrities who posts Jewel stills quite regularly, but he doesn't know how his software works, because his files are incomplete 67% of the time. You want pics, go to an EDA page, including the one below. Everybody got it, good. The Billboard Music awards are being broadcast on MuchMusic this week, and as I recall, Jewel was a presenter. Just so I don't have to sit through two painful hours of this, could someone tell me approximately how far into the show does Jewel show up? First half hour? Towards the end? Does she appear only one time? Thanks. And, by the way, momentum for Jewel continues to grow here in Montreal. Tickets for her show went on sale Saturday, and one of the major local stations turned it into 'The Jewel Tickets Weekend', with a lot of radio promotion give-aways, and so on. They kept saying 'the show will probably be sold out', which I think they were trying to turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy. MY LINE UP ADVENTURE FOLLOWS Another Montreal EDA, Ken, mentioned in his message Saturday that Metallica tickets went on sale simultaneously with Jewel tickets, which I didn't know at the time. I went down early Saturday morning to my neighbourhood ticket outlet, and was shocked to find a considerable line-up of what seemed to be refugees from the Mad Max movies. "Wow, that Jewel is really extending her fan base," I thought to myself. I tried to engage some of the aforementioned characters into a conversation, but for the most part, I was greeted by blank stares that one would normally associate with a reaction you'd get if you spoke to someone in Martian. ("Hmmm. Not very EDA-like," I mused.) Finally, when I once again asked again what they were lined up for, one of the clearly more evolved creatures responded hesitantly "Tickets?" Now that I discovered one who seemed to have actually mastered - to some degree - primitive verbal skills, I seized the opportunity to hone in for details. "Tickets to see whom?" I prompted, as gently as one would speak if you were trying to get a fawn to eat out of your hand. After a considerable amount of brow-knitting concentration, the mystery was cleared up for me. "Metallica?" he said, with as much conviction as you would muster if you had circled 'none of the above' in a History exam you hadn't studied for. "Ahhh, I see," I said. And I did see. NB The above is not a condemnation of Metallica fans in general, who I'm certain are fine people. This is just a completely accurate presentation of my particular encounter. Besides, maybe they were just pieces of me.... Toodles. Hey guys...I have been on here I think for two weeks or so and this is my first post. It is a bummer about JEwel's album being delayed and all that, but if youwant som GOOD music to listen to in the meantime...some of these albums may not be quite so *brand new* but they are definitely good shyte... 1. Mike Scott... "Bring 'Em All In" (he also has a new one coming out within the next few months) 2. Freddy Jones Band... "North Avenue Wake Up Call" (yeah this is a few years old but it is really really awesome) 3. Jude... ***I forget the name of his album, but it is some sort of street address...like 430 Weston Ave or somtehing to that effect***...the album is GREAT...I actually got to know his music from my school's radio station (I am a DJ and have access to lots of cool unheard of artists)...folky stuff...all acoustic...pretty intense... 4. Widespread Panic... "Ain't Life Grand" yeah I know this album is also fairly old, but it is incredibly wonerful music...you hafta admit... 5. Kate Jordan & CJ... "Cutaway" ...folky music...they are from PA...really good... 6. Jeff Buckley... "Grace" one of my friends just got me into him and he is incredible 7. hothouse flowers... "songs from the rain" they are so awesome...from Scotland or Ireland, I keep on forgettin where they are from...really great energy music... 8. Jane Kelly Williams... "Tapping the Wheel" ...an absolutely wonderful folk album...I met her in person, and she is an absolute sweetheart...wonderfully relaxing music, too...she is, in addition to a beautiful lyricist and singer, a beautiful instrumentalist...grace and elegance thru simplicity, you know? That's all I have to say for now... ...pretty much... ...well... ...if anyone happens to have any Jewel boots they would not mind sending me, provided I send a blank tape and postage, would anyone mind doing me the favour of dubbing stuff? Or if you want to trade I can trade stuff by 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie MErchant, SUzanne Vega, Tori Amos, and Melissa Ethridge. Get in touch with me? Please? Thanks, angels... stephanie ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #88 **************************
