(For newer folk, a worker (Hiranya) at Jewel's office used to keep the list informed in the same manner MrBB does now) Anyway, as I said, I posed the question to her, as we EDAs wanted to adorn our vehicles with ribbons that were the same color as Jewel's favorite color. The idea was to make it easier for us to spot each other at JewelStock. Hiranya told me Jewel did not have a favorite color. Not to be dismayed, we decided on blue ribbons as that is the color of her one guitar (affectionately known as Big Blue) Since then, blue ribbons has been the official calling card for EDAs at Jewel events and EDA gatherings. So, when going to a Jewel show, and you plan on meeting other EDAs, hang a blue ribbon or two (or 100 like Selena does!!) from your antennae. :) Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Feb 1997 18:34:01 -0500 (EST) From: Rachel Kramer Bussel Subject: NJC: other cool artists OK, for this "music while we wait" thing... other artists I like a lot are: 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant, Velocity Girl (they just broke up but their music is very cool), suddenly, tammy!, The Innocence Mission, Cowboy Junkies, Tara MacLean (she's new, I think you EDAs would like her, a bit like Jewel), Sarah McLachlan, Aimee Mann. :) Rachel "While we may never escape the real O.J., we are blessedly escaping O.J. as metaphor." -- Maureen Dowd, 2/6/97 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Feb 1997 23:49:46 -0500 From: Ryan Clark Subject: NJC: Music while you wait... Hey there: So last night I went to this huge party ( 2,000people) , and our most popular band called "Fiel a la Vega" was playing. I went backstage , and I talked to their bassist ... a real nice guy ( really talented too) , and I started to ask them question about their musical influences , and about how they developed into this local phenomenom. In the middle of our discussion of musical interest , I blurted out Jewel. He said " Who? ,oh yeah, I've heard her , she's really good". Now what struck me was that this band is known for their love for old folkoric latin music mixed with the now evolving latin rock , and their hate for the American music industry. Earlier, I had asked him if he was directly influenced by any american artist , and he said " I was influenced by some of the original rock and rollers , but this 90's MTV batch doesn't appeal one bit to me". So when after this, he said that he had heard and liked Jewel , it felt nice . I obviously talked him about this list , but he seemed really occupied with the managers and other roadies , so I just dropped it. Jewel is liked even by the most "anti-american" artists. until then your auto cheap archangel: Rafa ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Feb 1997 10:19:12 -0500 (EST) From: the emperor of smurfs Subject: WWSYS sheet music hello angels! yesterday i was in my local NRM store and they were selling the sheet music of WWSYS for $3.95. the booklet has the same photo from the WWSYS cd single and cassingle. although a few people have mentioned a PoY songbook, i haven't seen one yet. i've only spotted this WWSYS sheet music. i just wanted to let people know this is available :) peace, dave *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Dave DiCicco peaches@dmapub.dma.org "Innocence Maintained" is a moderated, news only email list providing its subscribers with timely information about Jewel Kilcher. I am going to take a big risk here, and recommend Deana Carter's "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" TECHNICALLY, she's a country singer, but we be open minded here:-) Threre're alot of people who don't normally like country who like her. I even know other Jewel fans who like her. Plus it's a lock for the "Best Album Title of the Year" award, and "Strawberry Wine" is one of my favorite all time songs. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Uck, don't like her myself... Course i'm not really into country music at all, but if I was going to recommend one country album it would obviously be Shania Twain's, the majority of her songs on the album have been released to the public and they are great, as is the 4 or so who haven't been released... She's got a great voice and her songs are hardly country sounding... <> Of course, I'm assuming you all already have "Jagged Little Pill". If you don't, go out and get it. Right now:-) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ well, let me put it this way... I bought Alanis about a week after "You Oughta Know" came out, and I was in fact about the first person I know to buy it. Unfortunately due to radio overplaying and overplaying her videos on television, I've grown QUITE Sick of her... It makes me sad because I used to LOVE that album. Also, my most favorite songs on that album haven't even been released so at least I don't have to get sick of them *yet*... hahaha... Besides, Alanis has enough money, if you don't have it copy it from your friend... laugh... j/k Multi-Comm Las Vegas Nv. 208.129.48.2 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Feb 1997 14:39:04 -0500 From: Abbie Hawkey Subject: Info Please.... Believe me the intent was to be humorous for I had no idea what killfiling even was. Now that I do it makes me want to play the song Daddy over and over ... but anyway I do want everyone to know that I do apologize again, and I will rethink any such type messages in the future. I highly recommend the following CDs: 1) Danielle Howle (About to Burst): Still signed to Simple Machines records. Very nice catchy songs. 2) Semisonic (Great Divide): Nice guitars and strong rhythm section. Somewhere between metal and folk. 3) The Reverend Horton Heat (It's Martini Time): If it weren't for the lyrics, I'd have thought they were from the 50s or something. 4) Descendants (Everything Sucks): Good punk rock. 5) Ruth Ruth (Laughing Gallery): Strange, neurotic punk rock. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ W. Jewel is famous and liked in other parts of the America's. I get this channel because I live in a predominately spanish speaking area. So anyone who has access to this channel watch their countdown next week. Also I feel it is much better then N. American MTV for one simple reason, it still shows music videos and music programing. It seems like the only station where I can watch Cowboy Junkies videos. Just curious, how many CJ fans on the list have seen the "Angel Mine" video or knew one existed. So I get the fun ability to send E-mail and not recive it. So I get knocked off the list again, miss vital info, and am just generaly cut off from a lot of people. I sure love having a TOTALY unreliable service. Good thing I don't pay any more then I do for it or I would be even more pissed then I already am. All I know is that I'm pulling my hair out here. I fell almost like just folding up my computer and forgeting the damned inernet even exists cus I really don't know if it's worth this much stress. Don't really don't know why I'm typing this, just caus I need to channel all this energy somwhere... and I can't sleep. You know, I don't think I'm so good at being alone. Nope, not at all. Oh well, everything seems to be troubleing me tonight. Anyway, figured I would explain my sudden disapearance. The greatest thing about this is that all the other internet stuff works fine... just the most important part of it is gone... great huh? OH well, guess I'll go drown myself in dishwater now (wow, that was damned odd of me... oh well). Hopefully the fools I pay money for troubles will have this problem fixed sometime tommorrow (it's already taken 30 hours with no progress, these are qualified people, I tell ya). Like Foolish Games? How about stuff from my >Save the Linoleum CD, or from tapes like JewelStock or Rare Angels? I'm a >total idiot when it comes to this issue, so I'd appreciate the help. Actually, it has come up before, and Hiranya passed along a reply that I can paraphrase and expand upon. She said the Shiva Diva Doo Wop cassette Jewel released on her own in the early days was meant for her fans, not for radio, so please don't play that. Likewise, unreleased material we have on tape should not be played. Anything released by Atlantic is fair game. That includes Save The Linoleum, Phyllis Barnabee, the live version of YWMFM with Steve Poltz that was a bonus track on an Atlantic promo single, anything on legitimate UK imports (although so far there's nothing new there). And anything on a commercially-released soundtrack or compilation. That would even include Angel Needs A Ride, since it was a 91X compilation in San Diego, or WWSYS from the WHFS/Washington 'Just Passin' Thru' CD. And of course, Under The Water, Sunshine Superman, Have A Little Faith In Me and Quiet Warrior. I've seen portions the Electronic Press Kit video, which includes a live acoustic version of WWSYS, broadcast on MuchMusic. Personally, I would consider that fair game since Atlantic released it. You might think of the Boston Paradise Rock Club or Acoustic Cafe shows as a grey area, but they're really not. They weren't commercially released, only licensed for broadcast within a one-week period to radio stations that subscribe to those syndicated programs. Likewise, anything from TV, like Letterman, Conan, VH1, is copyright material and cannot be rebroadcast without permission. Between the promos, soundtracks and samplers, there's still lots of rare stuff that would sound great on the air. And of course anything goes from the album.
