Information on how to get these tapes is available in a companion post to the list entitled "TWO Jewel Tape Trees - time to get your NEW Jewel tapes!" (For you digest subscribers, it MAY be in the last digest, as I won't know for sure until I send this) Like I said in the main post on these two trees, the Boston tape is the same show that some of you may already have, but believe me this re-master is superior and is a 'must have'. To see the SET LISTS for the two tapes involved, please read the companion post to the list entitled "Jewel Tape Trees - Set lists for the Jeweltide Carols tape & 5/18/96 Boston tape". (It was sent at the same time this one was, but for you digest subscribers, it MAY be in the next digest, as I won't know for sure until I send this) PLEASE read EVERY word of this post. Many of you are experienced tape "leaves" and/or "branches". However, many are not and may be totally lost in this. This post is written for their benefit...the new folk. So veterans, please bear with me. Two quick notes: ALL BRANCH APPLICANTS - all branches for this tree have been chosen and notified. All not chosen have been notified also. If you applied as a branch and have NOT received your notification, please Email me. ALL NEW FOLK WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A TAPE TREE IS - there is also a note for you at the end of this Email for you explaining what a tape tree is. The two tapes that are being offered in this tree are: Jewel Rocks The Paradise - is a very high quality re-master of the Jewel concert from the Paradise Club in Boston on 5/18/96. I realize more than a few of you may have a 'version' of this tape but believe me, this re-master is a 'must have'. Dan Stark, who did the re-mastering said, "I'm absolutely thrilled with the way it worked out! I'm pretty much a perfectionist when it comes to this sort of thing, so you know if I'm bouncing off walls it sounds pretty good. :)" Jeweltide Carols - consists of the Jewel sets from two holiday multi-artist fests that Jewel was a part of in early December 1996. While the sets are identical, the very high quality (and full stereo), plus the 'extras' make it a very desirable tape to have. The extras include: Jewel and Lenedra (her mother) belting out "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" (with Jewel scatting!!) and the walk-on Jewel did with the Wallflowers to sing "6th Avenue Heartache". Alan Bershaw (MrBB) mastered this tape. Each tape will be a 90 minute cassette. There will NOT be any DATs, mini-discs or VHS Hi-Fi available of these tapes, standard audio cassettes only. A SYNOPSIS OF THIS TREE: As this tape tree offers TWO different tapes, you can 'request' either one or both tapes. You (the leaf) will EMAIL me with a leaf request per the instructions below. You do not have to tell me which (or both) tapes you want, you will be telling that to your assigned branch later. (In other words, it don't matter to me if you want one or both, as it does not matter at all at this point) When I receive your leaf request, I will immediately reply to it just so you know I got your request. (Call it a return receipt if you will) I will assign you to a branch and EMAIL the both of you about it, with basic instructions on what to do. It may be 2 weeks before you get this leaf/branch assignment. So PLEASE be patient. Some of the branches will not yet have their master tapes when I make this assignment. The branch will contact you when it is time for you to mail him/her your blank tapes. (your branch will also include some further instructions particular to his/her methods of being a branch) WHEN TO EMAIL ME: Now if you want, but don't wait too long. I want to wrap up the leaf requests within 3 or 4 days. HOW TO EMAIL ME: ALL I need to know is your full name, and where you live. While it's not really important in the USA, I'm going to try to do geographical leaf/branch assignments. So, what I need you to do is to Email me with the SUBJECT (NOT the body) of your Email in the following format: leaf, state or country where you live Please, do not put a 'space' after the comma. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Examples: leaf, alaska leaf, england leaf, new zealand leaf,Israel leaf, canada leaf, new hampshire leaf, california leaf, guam Please, NO abbreviations either, spell it all out. In the BODY of the Email AT LEAST tell me your FULL NAME and if you intend to send METAL tapes to your branch, tell me that too. I do not need to know your postal mailing address. Your branch will later, so you can Email it then to him/her at that time. If you have ANY questions about any of this, feel free to Email me. :) Everyone involved in this project sincerely hopes you enjoy your tapes. Remember, please get the SUBJECT of your Email to me right. :) It will help immensely. Your fellow Everyday Angel, Mike (please read the part below if new to tape trees) ____________________ WHAT IS A TAPE TREE: A Tape Tree on this list is a system utilized to distribute hard to get music of Jewel, be it live recordings or cuts from promotional releases and/or interviews. The basic structure for a tape tree that it is a co-operative effort among many subscribers to this list. It is to spread the music of Jewel, at no cost, other than to supply your own blank tapes and to pay for the return postage. It is done in the spirit that if you can, just maybe you can return the favor someday. If not, so be it. The "tree" will start with one or more "seeds" who have a master copy of the tape to be treed. These seeds will each make copies for the "branches", who supply their own tapes plus return postage. The branches are recruited by the tree administrator via a post to the list. After the branches are nearly set up, the administrator will then post to the list for "leaves". The leaves then Email the administrator with the requested information, and they are then assigned to a branch. The leaves then send blank tapes, plus return postage to the assigned branch, who then makes copies for the leaves. That's the basics. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Feb 1997 17:18:24 -0600 From: Lisa Schiller Subject: Jewel Concert in Chicago Hi- I'm not sure if anyone has posted the Chicago ticket information, so here goes: Tickets for the March 20 show at the Chicago Theater go on sale at 10:00AM central time on Saturday, February 22. Well, I don't use mIRC myself, but there is an Undernet channel where we occasionally meet called simply #jewel. AOL'ers who have the latest AOL software can join in too with AOL Link or AOL Winsock. They can pick up mIRC or Ircle for the Mac in the AOL software libraries. The how-tos to set up external Internet programs is described in AOL's help areas. Since AOL can IRC now, why don't we start migrating to the channel? I'd be around more often if we had more people there (And if I wasn't so busy around Thursday evening :-). - -- Reverend Angus The Answer Angel avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Feb 1997 15:47:25 -0800 From: "Shaun" Subject: Re: jc: accidental poet videos > > But I have a question to pose to y'all: Do you think Jewel will act > > naturally with the cameras rolling? > ..... > > > > Am I making any sense? :) My point is that while it'll be AMAZING to see > > Jewel going through the creative process, I'll always be wondering how much > > of it is an act and how much of it is how she naturally is. > > Well, it comes down to how they went about it. Hey, I didn't write the original post, but I'll take a shot at this one. Jewel (with a lot of help from Atlantic Records) has proven that sometimes it takes a while for an album to sell. Other companies can look at Jewel's popularity, bigger than ever before, and learn from it; help support some of those other acts that aren't popularity. She's proven that record companies need to put more faith in little-known artists and maybe divert some of their attention away from their glamour acts like Alanis and Hootie. Not everything is gonna sell like Hootie, and Jewel and Atlantic have proven that that doesn't mean you pull the plug, it means you stick it out and let the album find its audience. (and, yes, I own Alanis and Hootie, I just used them as examples...) - -todd (who finds himself defending himself, now not even giving people the chance to yell at me because they thought i dissed their band) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Feb 1997 00:21:45 EST From: diablo13@juno.com (Edward A Frayna) Subject: 9:30 Club Tickets went on sale last week. $25 a pop. Since I know all of us will be giving our best wishes to Jewel on grammy night, how about we put our wishes on paper. I am proposing having each EDA write down their good luck wishes. I am going to Jewel's last show before the Grammy's. If all EDAs interested in giving their good luck wishes to Jewel will e-mail them to me with Good Luck or Grammy in the subject. I will bind these into a book and give them to Jewel. I think that this is a good idea and I hope alot of you will agree. I am hoping to get at least 50% of the EDAs to participate. So send in your poems your prayers or whatever you want. The main thing is to get them to me by Feb. 22. If you're worried about me seeing the letters don't be. I thought of an idea for a t-shirt... on the back, "She said I feel like home to her" written on it, in the same pattern & design as the video, and on the front, The picture of Jewel with the closeup that happens in the beginning of the video with JEWEL in the lettering that is on the PoY CD in yellow or black along the bottom. Wouldn't that just be SMASHING? I'll have to start sketching it SOON... >What exactly >is she doing with the blue dress in the vid? Anybody? I think it's rather symbolic. The dress, plain and simple, signifies her life with him (the sleeves represent him). After he leaves, she has to alter her life (use those little string things in the sides and cut off the sleeves). Although I've been criticized lately because of my analytical, philosophical, symbolic thinking, I hope you all will put up with it. thanks! Please put your real name on it too (cause I get confused). Then we can plan what to do the eve of the show. Rob and I are considering getting a car (complete with a driver) to take us from our home in Old Bridge, NJ to NYC. We thought that if there were enough interested EDA's they could meet here, leave their cars, and we could ride in together. So, once we decide what we're doing (i.e. where to meet, dinner??, etc...) we can get everything signed in blood ;-}. You know, make reservations, etc.... Anyway, feel free to e-mail me privately or whatever. Look forward to seeing everbody. Only I was thinking I like the shot of here sitting cross-legged on the floor playing the guitar. And I could be wrong (I havn't seen the vid in a while), but don't the words read "HE said I felt like home to HIM"? Oh well. I'm thinking of making a temp shirt of this (without the picture). - -Ashe Mayfair ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Feb 1997 20:59:48 -0600 From: BeefJerky Subject: Re: Changing.... And to get around this, so that the teleporters work, in Star Trek they have those Heisenberg Compensator thingies so that the teleporters know where to reassemble (and disassemble) the atoms and molecules and stuff in the correct order so things don't get affected. And I would think they have an equivalent device for cameras and such, I mean, look at MTV's 'Real World' and 'Road Rules'. Don't you think everyone there acts soooo natural and, ah, real? How else could they get those people to not ham it up and not let the cameras affect them. It's almost as though there were no cameras at all and everyone was like that in real life. Really. Jewel made it on the "Top Five at Five" in Minneapolis (KDGE 93.7FM) today. YWMFM is currently at #4. The "Top Five at Five" is five most requested songs for each weekday. If you're curious, Bush was at five, Jewel at four, U2 at three, Counting Crows at two and NIN at one. I like NIN, but I hate their new song. KDGE can be reached at 612-989-EDGE. Tony T. Since I'm now on the digest form, I didn't read his message until much AFTER I sent mine. Sorry for the redundancy. (and now I've wasted more bandwidth apologizing :) Some quick notes: I'm 800 messages through the 1,200 messages I'm catching up with, and I have some _very late_ responses: ** I can't beat Dean Harris' 8 inches, but my daughter Chloe, a big Jewel fan, is just over 3 feet tall. That puts her in second place in the height contest. I asked Chloe how tall she is, and she held her hands about 6 inches apart. So, according to Chloe, she's even shorter than Dean! ** Someone asked if Jewel was an atheist or something, since she didn't thank God at the awards. I don't know if this was answered, but Jewel told Lauren Hutton that she doesn't have an organized religion, but she believes in spirituality, angels, and magic.
