Some of us are even bringing our lightsabers if we have them(I got my Luke one last night!)! Well, that's about it. I'm soo damn excited. Just thought I'd throw in my comments about Jewel on Dave's show last night. I was surprised she sang NYA, and I thought she performed a beautiful version of the song. Regarding the Dave bashing that's been going on, I do wish he had more time to talk with her, but what a lot of people seem to be overlooking is that Jewel has been on Dave's show 3 times in the past 9 months (end of April 1996, beginning of Sept. 1996, and last night). If we could look back at Dave's guest list over the past year, I don't think you'll find too many people that have been on more than once. So, even though Dave didn't interview her last night, he has given her a lot of exposure. They are having their little week in review show and the music guy came up and did a story on Jewel. It was pretty much same old, same old, but then they starting showing exerts from the old video, and a lot of them. Then when they closed the show, they ended it with the video playing in the background while the credits rolled, cool huh! Jewel was on E! today (3:50pm Pacific time). I caught it on tape :), here's a rundown on what they talked about: DAGNY HULTGREEN: "With music producers looking for the next 'jewel in the rough' that they can polish into a superstar, it seems the latest pop gem is already a shining jewel. David Adelson is in our newsroom with more. David, what did you mean by that?" DAVID ADELSON: "Well, as an 18 year old folk singer living out of her van, Dagny. Jewel Kilcher became the object of a fierce record company bidding war. Now nearly two years after the release of her debut album on Atlantic Records, Jewel has proved that the attention was warranted." (YWMFM Sean-Penn version video clip) "It was first released on February 28th, 1995. _Pieces of You_ is basically a simple album by an artist with the simple name of Jewel. But there is nothing simple about what happened after radio got ahold of this single." (WWSYS video clip) "'Who will Save Your Soul' put this young folk singer from Alaska on the music industry map. Last weeks American Music Award for 'Best New Artist" is the latest height reached on a musical roller-coaster Jewel never expected to ride." JEWEL: (AMA interview) "I want to be a long-term artist, that's why we did my album so simply. And that's why we thought it'd only sell 30 thousand copies." DAVID ADELSON: "Needless to say, that 30 thousand was a bit of an underestimation. Today _Pieces of You_ has sold over 1.6 million copies. But what's really amazing is that it's only the beginning. With the upcomming Grammy awards and the new hit single, that 1.6 million could easily double. Indeed as the single 'You Were Meant for Me' continues to explode and with prognosticators swearing she's a lock for the 'Best New Artist' Grammy, Jewel is poised to shine atop the album chart for a long while to come." They then closed out the show with the Sean Penn version of the "YWMFM" video in the background. Pretty cool, especially the part where "she's a lock for the 'Best New Artist' Grammy" :) Sinjin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 19:36:01 -0500 (EST) From: "Anthony S. Last summer when JewelStock was in the planning stages, the same topic came up, as many of those attending wanted to give her personal gifts at the shows. I enquired about it to Hiranya (who was then the lists' official contact with Jewel....she works for Jewel) and what she replied to me is copied below. Some people have brought this up recently, referring to this memo from Hiranya, which back then was copied to the list and put in the JewelStock FAQ. Mike P.S. As a group (we collected at the door), we gave her an absolutely gorgeous crystal angel that she fell in love with. (The idea was Bill Goodliffs' and the angel was selected by Rich "Akira" Chang) What Hiranya said: Gifts: Lenedra doesn't remember the conversation about gift limiting but here are Jewel's current thoughts on it. Jewel is given a lot of gifts which she enjoys and appreciates. However she wonders sometimes about gift giving to celebrities. "Stars" are given so many gifts, freebies, favors etc and they are sometimes the people who least need it. She doesn't want to ask people to quit giving things to her because she knows it also brings them pleasure, but she would like to ask people to notice others who need gifts (time, compliments, hugs, kindness, friendship, flowers etc) and sometimes give to them instead, ore also, or on her behalf. She would love letters that said "to thank you for your music I gave x person xxxx....." It would really be a wonderful gift to her to have fans begin really taking care of each other. Since this list is WAY ahead on this count it wont be hard for us! - Hiranya ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 21:52:09 -0500 From: Crunch Subject: small shows and popularity... =) hi'ya all!! i'm get down on the lawn and preach some love! =) you know most bands never stop doing small theatres and clubs. it merely takes a little more attention and perserverence to get tix. i have seen many bands, at the apex of their popularity, at small venues. i saw guns-n-roses in 1989 at a small bar in LA. i saw Live (not necessarily their apex) last spring at in a club with 300 others. i saw smashing pumpkins in dallas at (Trees?) 2 years ago. and on and on... the point is this. jewel is still doing small shows, though not coffee houses. her security is tighter, and her shows aren't as intimate. but will just a small amount of perserverence it is rather easy to get front row. and when the hype about her dies down (in a year or so?), she will be able to relax and talk to us again. =) i think that what most of us are afraid of is the loss of innocence.... our own. many of us envisioned jewel as someone just like us, fighting her way to the top. we believed in her purity. with sucess comes responsiblity, and jewel has taken that on. and consequently lost that air of innocence that we so loved. she has become more focused and more involved. like any of us would. this does mean she has lost her purity of vision, but she has to learn to refocus it and use it to affect a larger audience. =) jewel is growing and learning. that is never a bad thing. =( any doubts that we may have about that are self-centered. some of us feel left behind and instead of trying to move on with our lives we get a little angry and jealous. =) instead we should praise and support jewel's new growth. she needs our love as much as ever. it is not easy being one of the chosen icons of our society. with it comes many doubts, pressures, and evils. more than ever jewel needs to know that we will love her no matter what, that we believe in her vision, that we believe in her, whatever path she decides to take. =) it is by giving unconditional love that we can show our value and solidity. we all know the phrase, "if you love it, let it go. if it comes back, it always loved you." lets do that! lets keep gathering at jewel shows and making EDA signs and requesting songs and showing her that we still love her! (what could be more depressing to her than losing such an awesome support group?) if she doesn't continue to keep us in her graces, she never really cared. but, you know what? all my money says that when the dust settles, jewel will still be the angel that we all love.... and she will still love us dearly. =) love~life! crunch! =) "i so often hear people say, 'life isn't fair!' and everyone else agrees. but life is very fair! it gives back what we give to it. if we hate people, events, and creations -all the things that make up life, life will give that hate back. but if we give to life, give to it songs and dance and love and wonder, it will give all those things back and more!! we have to start giving to recieve!!" =) "those who add sunshine to lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves!" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 21:48:04 -0600 From: Damon Schmidt Subject: NJC---TOAD... Many will wonder "what crisis?", and discard this statement as demagoguery or the ramblings of a paranoid mind. But just like a cancer can be growing inside a body that otherwise looks and seems healthy, so too is our Race dying. It is imperceptible at first glance, but look harder, and you'll begin to perceive things that you never thought possible. Take, for instance, the rapid increase in Race-mixing, especially amongst White girls with black males. Without the wombs of our women, we cannot reproduce our own dwindling numbers. Race-mixing spells death. Look at the current immigration levels. Non-Whites are swarming into our countries, and mocking our claim to a birthright. OUR ancestors fought and died to leave us a land and a heritage to be proud of, but we are told we are evil if we reject this watering-down of our culture. Look at global population levels. Whites account for only 8% of the planet's population. Only 2% of the babies born last year were White. (SOURCE: United Nations). So it is WHITE PEOPLE that are the true "new" minority. Non-Whites make up 92% of the people on this planet! We DO have a reason to be concerned and to want to close our borders to non-European people. Look at the current "White guilt complex" that so many Whites suffer from. We are NOT responsible for the sins of our ancestors, and our forefathers are people that we should be fiercely proud of. We will not accept a media and an education system that teaches otherwise. Look at how "evil" pro-White individuals like myself are portrayed by the media. You would think that being "racist" was worse than being a "rapist" nowadays. Just change one little letter and *bing!* you have an instant headline for the nightly news. Many murders go unreported by the nightly news, but if one student or one employer in one tiny little city makes one tiny little comment that is not "politically correct", then the nations reporters are sent in like a legion of liars to prevaricate incessantly. Over all, though, listen to the comments of organizations that want to be your Thought Police! Are you willing to concede to these creeplings? Will you let them censor politically incorrect ideas like mine when they appear on the Internet? Or will you let these "disk burners" get their way, and relegate you to a pig pen where you have all the freedom you want to roll around in the mud, as long as you don't think about leaving the pen!? You decide for yourself, but I've made up my mind. I'm going to stay proud of my Race and Heritage no matter what kind of lies they want to spew about me. I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees! I bow to no man! So I ask you this one question: who scares you more, the growing number of lobby and pressure groups that want to be your Thought Police and spy into your private life, or a small Detroit-based indie record label that publishes CDs and cassettes? Somewhere, in the beginning, this all had something to do with music. Oh well, at least I'm actually concentrating on *something*.. it's gotta be good for my pphysics grade doesn't it??? anyway it struck me as extremely wierd that Demon Hofer (physics teacher) would be talking about Jewel to a class room of somnambulists (no I do NOT know what that means, and no it is NOT spelled right!!) lots of love and stuff CJ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jan 1997 22:54:56 -0600 From: Lehmann Subject: njc: goddess of punctuation > CJ goddess of punctuation > >I just wanted to point out that I am the Grammar King and I also fill in as >Rain King pro tempore or something... when Adam's happy, you see;)... > >Damon >"...if..." what what what what what what hey theres nothing wrong with my punctuatoni i use it as often as i feel like so what if thats never its so spontaneeous and this way i can see who loves me and who doesnnt b/c if you love me youll read the whole post and if you don't love me well i guess you'll delete it as sooon as you see my name god i hope there arent very many ppl who do that althoguth after this post prob everyone will oh well too bad thats life for you actually i guess that the only thing not using punctuation is good for is to see whos crazy and whos not b/c i guess its only the crazy ppl that would read it all w/out getting a headache whoa did i just say that only crazy people love me thats really mean oh i guess its time for some kind of puctuation" hows that!!>:"-=*.,":?"[.<,?> ok i think tha'ts about enough for today snoxies and exclamationg points CJ goddess of punctuation and stuff stuff stuff ps sorry about that maybe i got a little carried away ?.,";!-=?>,.';.,;:;:'!.,?!!'./, or something ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Feb 1997 00:30:13 -0500 (EST) From: Tlcathome@aol.com Subject: Re: bullshit Let's send this guy a copy of POY!!!!!
