This was before she had won her award and I thought it might be the only real glimpse of her all night. Oh I pity those who missed this. That'll teach you to take a cruise through the Carribean. Or something. ;-) ObCongrats: WOOHOO!!!!!! Is this the time when we lose her Hooks? :-) All fears and dreams, Tom, careful wisher ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1997 00:20:10 -0500 From: Todd Beaupre Subject: Jewel and religion >2. Jewel was about the only person who didn't [thank] God for her talents. Is she agnostic or atheist? That would be cool... I bet that question could spark a big debate on this list... Subject: NJC: blatherscythe Ok, someone mentioned Kevin Bacon, so I had to boast. I've got a wonderfully short link to Kevin Bacon (and half of the celebrities in the known world). Last time I was in Chicago, I saw Branford Marsalis play, and then he had champagne with us for a little while afterwards. Groovy. So, Branford Marsalis was (or still is, I haven't watched TV in ages) director of the Tonight Show orchestra, and who's been on the tonight show but... Kevin Bacon. And Jewel. And oodles of other people. I'm really sorry already, for I bet this will spring the Kevin Bacon thread back to life, at least a little. I'm sorry. Until now, no one's ever heard the name Gavin except for Gavin MacLeod, of Love Boat fame. Now there's that Gavin Roswell guy from Bush. Oh well. I'm from the Gavins from county Wexford, and they've just got it for a stinkin' first name. So there. It's a frightfully horrid looking crest, though, that we Gavins must bear. oh well. tim * gavin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jan 1997 23:38:43 -0600 (CST) From: "Tim Gavin, The only true paranormal of the Fu Sheng beaver." Subject: NJC: height/weight contest 5'3", 110 llbs? I can't say I've got that beat myself (I'm 6'1", 185), but my friend Nick is 5'10", 108 lbs. He's a skeleton boy. He looks really buff, though, because his meager muscles have so much definition due to complete lack of fat. He looks just like Leonardo DiCaprio, too. In fact, he's been asked for his autograph a couple times. Neato. Anyway, tim gavinissimo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Jan 1997 23:24:39 -0600 (CST) From: "Tim Gavin, The only true paranormal of the Fu Sheng beaver." Subject: NJC: matt pinfield Yeah, he does know absolutely EVERYTHING about music. I give the man respect for that. But, somehow, I still don't like him. I haven't watched 120 Mins in about four years, but I caught a couple lately, and I liked it better when they had anybody and everybody hosting, instead of Matt and sporadic guests. Oh well. It's not like I get to watch it anyway. Intersting: we flipped through the channels sunday night and Matt was on. My friend in the room, never having seen him before, spontaneously voiced his first impression: "smug little unhappy man," he said, and it was somehow hilarious, maybe due to his delivery. The manner in which he said it made it sound silly. Picture Graham Chapman saying, "he's a bleeding git," and you've got the point. Anyway, considering I've never heard him get Pythonesque ever, (he surprised himself), it was funny. But seriously, for some reason the dozen or two shows I watched religiously a while back were all excellent, and have helped me find some of my favorite bands today, like: Buffalo Tom, the Figgs, the Dambuilders, Frente!, Jeff Buckley, and many others, and given me a taste of many other artists. The couple of shows that I've seen recently just didn't do the same for me. Maybe I saw some bad weeks. Maybe I just liked the styles of music that were on the shows last time. Maybe 120 Mins had some changes in staff, making it different. Who knows? I'll stop dwelling on this now. tim gavin ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1997 00:01:42 -0600 From: Ashe Mayfair Subject: One down, Two to go... Grammys watch out!!! So I'm sitting there watching the American Music Awards which I all but forgot was on. I'm falling asleep cus of the early morning I had and the lack of excitment form what is going on at the Awards. I look away from the TV and start to just stare at my coffee tabel and all the junk I have littered on it. I become mesmerized out of tierdness. So I'm sitting there, not paying attention to anything when suddenly the word Alaska gets through to me. OF course my first thought is 'Jewel' so I flip around and wathc the TV, remote in hand waiting for her to come on. So they annouce the nominees. Jewel, Donna Lewis, No Doubt. I sit there as Faith Hill fumbels with the envelop, my heart going wild thinking 'Damnit! Just open the damned thing before I die here!!'. Finaly she gets it open and announces that the winner is Jewel!!! I quicly hit recored and start screaming with joy. She WON!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!! That's one down, now two more at the Grammys to go ;]. >Boss wrote: >first. Although I thought that No Doubt would win because of poularity Haha, I never doubted Jewel for a second... well, maybe just a couple ;] >Liz wrote: >Yellow BMW!!!!!??? Jewel's lack of excitement sort of surprised me, she >said the same old stuff that she always says. Oh well, I am still sooo Just remeber what she said on the "And the nominees are..." show about not wanting to react in front of people but insdead going home and crying (or somthing like that). >Adam wrote: >For anyone who missed the awards or wants to check it out. I have about a >dozen images and a complete 93K Real Audio file of Jewel's acceptance speech Or if you like .wavs better you could get it in that format off of my page at: http://ponyexpress.net/~mayfair/index.htm I was gonna put it up in Real Audio format myself but I just didn't like how it sounded after I converted it so I went with the clearer sounding wav. Well, if you'll all excuse me, I managed to snag a copy of Empire Records form my the video store (I've only been trying to mounths) and need to go watch it. - -Ashe Mayfair "Angels lookin' make it hard to cry" -Tracy Bonham ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #54 **************************
