Here it is: Name: Jewel Kilcher Recent Album: Pieces of You (Atlantic) Bizzare Talent: Yodeling Sign: Gemini Current residence: San-Diego (any comments, Ping?) Poet: Pablo Neruda. He did a lot of political writing, but his love poems are my favorite - they're like nothing else in the universe. Town: Homer, Alaska, where I'm from. It's beautiful, with a lot of mountains and water and meadows. It's a small town of only five hundred people, but it's quite cosmopolitan and artistic. Holiday: Easter. In Alaska it means that spring is coming, which everyone's very happy about. Pet: My horse, Clearwater. He was my escape as a kid when things got hard. When I got him, he was really sick, and everybody said he wouldn't live, but I just pampered him and nurtured him. He's about 12 now, and my dad takes care of him back in Homer. Transportation: Horse. I used to ride mine to work and to school sometimes. I think everybody should ride something that's living instead of something that's emitting exhaust. Author: Kurt Vonnegut Jr. He is the master of the short story. I love reading him because he is really straight to the point and very inventive. I especially like his "Welcome to the Monkey House." Word: "Ubiquitous". It sounds just great, and it rhymes with ridiculous. Music: If I had to listen to one kind of music all the time, I would go for Baroque classical music. It's so beautiful. I like Vivaldi's Four Seasons and the requiems of Mozart, but I also listen to punk a lot. Sport: Surfing. It reminds me of riding, and I don't get to ride much now in San-Diego. Jewel song: "Amen". I think that lyrically, as a poem, it's very strong, and I like what it stands for. I wrote it for the death of Kurt Cobain- not so much for him but for his suicide following. He was definitely the hero for the heroless. Band: The Rugburns. They rock. My boyfriend, [Rugburns singer], Steve Poltz, is the best songwriter. Game: My favorite game is called "Would you rather..." You just make up stuff like "Would you rather be a fish or a star?" or "Would you rather be a dinner bell or a train horn?" It tells you a lot about people. Music video: I don't watch MTV - I've actually never had - so I've never even seen my video on the air. I'd like to. When I'm in hotels, I turn MTV on, but I haven't caught it yet. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "6.9 is a fantastic exciting experience interrupted by a period..." I didn't really think of a connection when I put the RAINN page on the Pieces of Jewel website but it has proven more real since. It was a good special even though I know they cut about 1:15 out of Tori's show. Oh well. Somewhere out there, they have the whole darn thing on tape. The cable system giant agreed to fully restore all the MTV and VH1 channels it recently dropped across the country. "This is a victory for the people," said recording artist Don Henley, who entered the fray after TCI dropped VH1 in Denver. "There has been an outcry from consumers across the nation." Henley and fellow artists John Mellencamp, JEWEL, and Tony Rich were scheduled to cap off a protest campaign against TCI at a Wednesday news conference in Denver when word came from TCI that it would restore MTV and VH1 channels to pre-January levels. The cancellations would have resulted in the loss of 2 million of VH1's 55 million homes and 700,000 of MTV's roughly 60 million homes....... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jan 1997 21:58:03 -0600 From: Andrew Vernon Subject: JC: YWMFM moves to #9 on Billboard Hot 100 This item just in... hope it's encouraging to the newcomers, cause it's JC all the way: For the week of February 1, VH1 advocate and World's Favorite Hippychick Jewel makes her first appearance in Billboard's single digits at #9 with "You Were Meant For Me." Secondly, I've had several Gateway computers ordered for work over the years, and, though, there's been a few problems over the years, they've been limited to problems that are easily fixable if you know what you're doing.
