Between Netscape, AOL and Adobe software, I'm sick and tired of BETA anything. Well, my BETA Newbie has been a real pain in the *ss. Leo (The Tropical Angel) never visits, he just whines about how he's in Guam and I'm in Massachusetts, so it's too far to drive (or swim). Then he wants Jewel tapes and stuff. He posts to the list without having the decency to let me edit his posts first. NO RESPECT, I tell you! Oh sure, he has cute stories about how his kid dances around to Jewel songs, and his posts are articulate enough, but you can't tell this newbie anything! It's like he has a mind of his own. Well, to tell the truth, he's okay. I could do worse, I guess. So I guess this is an endorsement of sorts for Rachel's "Adopt A Newbie" program. Hey, and no one flame her for the use of the "N" word, okay? It's a genuine effort to match up NEW list members ("newbies") with some of the OLD list members ("old farts"). There will be a number of opportunities to get together with other EDAs when Jewel begins touring again this spring. Let's make the most of them. Well, just in case there's one person curious the song's title is Jambalya. If any of you folky guitarista's are looking for fun stuff to play around the ol' bonn fire, this is your song! Ahhhh, memories. Today Nebraska is having a heat wave, it was twenty degree's outside. I would have gone out to enjoy it but unfortunately it was snowing fairly abundantly. Of course those of you who -did- read some of my last posts will remember that I -HATE- driving in snow. No matter how pretty it is. Anyway, staying inside all day by the heater I decided to dedicate my free time to brushing up on my singing. I must have played my guitar for at least ten hours... My typing is a noticeable amount slower due to the pain in my fingers. But, with all that playing and writing songs and singing I started to reminisce (I seem to be doing that lately, hmmm) about when I use to play at the beach, in California, with all my friends. We'd all build a small bonn fire and wait till the sun went down. I'd start to play and because I was so shy about singing the beach was the best place. The waves are too loud for anyone to really be able to tell your off key and sooner or later people will join you. Of course with all the drinking and ditching school this story isn't completely G rated, but fun is the only way I can remember it. I have yet to have fun again like when I was a kid... Well, after these people were done playing, guess who walks out... no, not Alanis Morissette... Jewel! She came out in a long, white dress, and played one song, then took a break. I went out to talk to her (apparently I was the only one who realized that this was the perfect opportunity), and she asked me how the roads were. Well hello all you shiny happy people, Okies...its been a while since i posted so lets make this long and sweet =). I took my walkman to school today, and listened to it in 4 classes and lunch period (i'm so bad) And i was shock and surprised (and extreemly happy) to hear YWMFM 4 (yes 4!!!) times today and WWSYS twice(this was over a total of 5 stations)!!! I havent been listening to the radio much lately and had no idea that she was getting so much airplay! And what pretty much made my day was when i was listening to Z100 during math class (or social hour if you will) And the exact second that jewel came on A girl who sits in front of my turned around and asked what i was listening to, Now the girl i am talking about is someone who doesnt listen to anything but Rap and R&B (and doesnt even know what songs hootie and the blowfish sing) so i figured that when i said Jewel she would have no idea what i was talking about...well i was wrong...I said i'm listening to jewel and she said..."Oh, yeah..." and breaks into WWSYS and it was totally cool, because as i said before she isnt exactly into that kinda music, but she says she likes jewel...cool! =) And some strange non jewel stuff happened to me today...pretty wierd stuff...I dont even know what happened to me really. I guess i am posting this to ask if any of you smart people can give me a clue as to what happened...I was sitting in 9th period health class And all of a sudden i turned ice cold and felt really numb, and then i blacked out...it was really wierd and the teacher didnt even notice, but the kids sitting around me noticed..., and i started shaking really bad (i'm not sure if i was visibly shaking or if i was just feeling it)...i finally came out of it but i still felt really cold and shaky...so i told the teacher i was sick and ran to the bathroom....i hardly had enough strength to walk to the bathroom, so i washed my face and sat on the bathroom floor for a few minutes til i felt a little better...then i went to my next class. and all the kids asked me if i was okay. but it was just really strange...the only other time i've ever felt this way before was last year when i hit my tailbone and blacked out. i dont understand why this happened...can anyone explain this? oh, wow...this was a lot longer than i anticipated....okay...bye bye for now. thirza "Well sinead o'Rebellion, Shock me shock me shock me, with that deviant behavior"-Renee Zellweger in empire records ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jan 1997 20:54:33 -0500 (EST) From: Brian Favela Subject: Greetings and a request... Greetings all... I see this mailing list isn't necessarily totally about Jewel, but I have a small request... Does anyone have additional tablauture that they could send me besides "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Pieces Of You" found on OLGA? I'm especially looking for "Near You Always"... I love that song :) Anyway, thanks for reading.. Brian P.S. Anyone know if Jewel has any posters? I haven't found a single one in about 10 different stores that carry numerous posters of artists. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brian Favela brianf@wpi, brianf@ece Favorite quote: If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice Web Page: http://www.wpi.edu/~brianf -Tolkien Interests: Guitar, Swimming, Computers - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Jan 1997 21:02:14 -0500 (EST) From: Horter3@aol.com Subject: JC : Jewel's commercial for The Grammy's Jewel commercial for the grammy's!!!! Just heard it on the radio. Kind of an interview thing. Her usual interview thing about growing up in alaska singing with her parents and then living her dream. And how grateful she is for being able to do that. Can't rememebr the whole thing word for word, (and besides my typing isn;t that fast...), but WOOHOO!!! And it;s not on a station that has played her music in months. Is this actual JC? Just one of those things. Probably all the= stress that goes with the job. But I do dream everyonce in a while. I remember the last dream I had that concerned a singer of some amount of= fame. It was a dream about Heather Nova. I haven't noticed very much talk= about her here, but she is worth checking out. Sort of an Alanis Morissette= without the angst.=20 Anyways, about the dream: In this dream, I was sitting in front of the TV= and a Heather Nova concert was playing on what appeared to be MTV. Little= emphasis was placed on Heather, but instead on the band and how they were= playing their instruments. The guitarist seemed to be playing with a harsh= looking bow, wielding it in an angry manner. (Dreams take wierd= turns...Heather uses cellos, but not bow-driven guitars...) The chords and= notes rang clearly in my head, and seemed to come at me visually, the notes= dancing through the air (I can actually sort of do this on command= consciously, using a wierd spectrograph looking thing in my head...kind of= wierd, but it works on visualizing the music.) Towards the end of the song= the bow reached a little too high and knocked a tuning knob off of the= guitar, sending a string flying and detuning the guitar. Again, dreams take= wierd turns. At this point they stopped playing and apologized to the= audience for the delay, but they wanted the music to be played right and= not out of tune. About halfway through the fixing of the guitar the TV= breaks away from the concert and goes to Heather, who seems to be hosting a= show on MTV as a guest. An interview begins with her, but none of the words= come across intelligibly. Not her fault, but mine. I was woken up at this= point. Granted, this isn't really a dream with any interaction between myself and= Heather, but it was a dream that takes a wierd situation and makes it= plausible. Dreams are strange.
