Hi Angels, What's your favorite Jewel song to dance to? I'm not much of a dancer, but I love to dance with my 3-year-old daughter Chloe, alone in our livingroom, because we really let loose and go wild. We dance to all kinds of music -- swing, Presidents of the USA, Violent Femmes, REM, and lots more. But I've found our favorite is "Chime Bells." Not only does it display Jewel's incredible voice, but it's a fun song. Chloe looks at her Barbie watch (she can't tell time) and says, "You know what time it is? It's time to dance." And I cue up "Chime Bells." We dance around, spinning, twisting, jumping, contorting our bodies. And when she yodels faster and faster, we dance faster and faster, until we collapse on the ground. Fun, fun stuff. We also do a bad approximation of yodeling, as we dance. Chloe is a better yodeler than I am. She can also sing "I'm Sensitive" word for word, and is very cute when she sings it. Let me know what Jewel songs you like to dance to, and we'll try them out. Well I haven't posted for awhile and had to catch up on my digests. Well I had to get back on here and talk to some very nice people. After the weekend i just had I need to get my mind off things and think about happy things. WEll my weekend was bad becuase we were baabysitting Bill's nepjew ( i guess mine by marriage now) and he just told us that his mmom's b-friend is physically and verbally abusing him again. The poor guy is only 10 years old and deons't need to go through this. So we took him to the police and had him talk to an officer then he didn't want to go home on sun night so we took him back to the police station and more stress and pressure on this little guy. So to make a long story short i certainly married into one f'd up family. Thank goodness his brother is the only one that has his head on straight. Anyways it sounds like I hate my in-laws when I don't they are just so messed up mentally that it drives me crazy and gets me angry. So onto some good stuff is there going to be an eda gathering in the chicago area anytime soon? I think it would be great to have one here. I am also happy to be escaping this nasty cold weather and going to Dallas for the weekend at the end of the month. WOO HOO!!! Also I love the sketch and i would put my vote in for a t-shirt. I also have to say I did notice that miss jewel was certainly Busting out. She has really come along way from a year ago when she didn't have much for style. I forgot where i read it but she never knew much about makeup and stuff until the makeup artist on VH1 when she did Duets got her some MAC makeup (which I must say if you have the extra money to buy it is DAMN GOOD STUFF). Anyways, I am very sorry for rmabling but i haven't posted in ages and just really wanted to say hi but then i go onto to this rambling spree.. Good Night Angels! When Jewel really took off on his charts in the last two weeks (shortly after I started to publicize his chart to the list) I wanted to find out some facts about his charts. Here is what he replied (which is followed by what I wrote to him): Date: Mon, 06 Jan 1997 00:03:15 -0500 To: Mike Connell From: Todd Beaupre Subject: Re: Jewel on your charts Mike, Thanks for the update regarding Jewel's movement on the HitsWorld charts. I have to admit that when Jewel gained so much in the past few weeks, it didn't strike me as unusual, considering she has two great singles and a very solid album. Singles and albums can make big jumps (as MADONNA did this week more so than Jewel with her latest single). On average, the Internet Top 50 is compiled from over 200 charts each week. Approximately 100 of these come from rock and pop radio stations on the Internet, while the other half comes from personal charts and e-mail votes. Our goal is to show the most popular music on the Internet (as opposed to measuring sales volume or something else). We are closely monitor the e-mail votes to ensure that ballot-stuffing is not taking place, and there have been cases in the past where we have adjusted weightings to reduce skewness towards an artist caused by promotion on a mailing list or home page. We have not done this with Jewel, because the proportion of votes we're receiving are not that unusual. Less than 3% of last week's e-mail voters selected "You Were Meant For Me" as their #1 single of the week. However, we will be continue to monitor the situation and make appropriate weightings adjustments if we get flooded with 700 Jewel fans' votes. :) As for the sample votes I post to the mailing list, I pick those almost at random, but I do look for those who have submitted diverse with songs both on and off the chart included. I use my own charts as the samples when I explain how users may vote. From those, you can see that I am in fact a recent Jewel fan, and "Pieces of You" was my favorite album from last week. However, I assure you that my personal preferences affect the Internet Charts any more than any other voter who submits his/her favorites. Thanks for your interest. Please continue to spread the word about our charts and list, but try not to encourage *too* many Jewel fans... :) Take care, Todd At 08:29 PM 1/5/97 -0500, you wrote: >Hi Todd, >I'm a Jewel fan who is semi-active on her mailing list. Oh geez, ok, I guess I'll take a poll for allyuz. (Speaking of polls, what happened to all of the results from that survey fad we had on this list a couple of months ago?) *******Here's the way the poll will work.************ 1. Cast your ballot for what you think will be the first single (or what you want to be the first single) by 11:00 PM Pacific Standard Time Friday January 10. Hopefully, I will post the results over the weekend. 2. Send it to me at Neal77@juno.com, with only the word BALLOT in capital letters in the subject line. 3. Since many of you will say "either or ," this is how the ballot will work: a) You will be given 3 votes. You may cast all 3 for one song, or you may cast 2 for one and 1 for another, or you may cast 1 vote each for three songs. b) You may ONLY vote for songs on the songlist below. b) Be sure to mention which version, w/band or solo, electric/acoustic if applicable. c) Vote only once. If you change your mind, cast another ballot with only the words BALLOT CHANGE in the subject line. >Here's the songlist in case you don't remember. > >TRACKS WITH BAND: >Boy Needs A Bike (aka Ride Away), Carnivore, Jessica (2 versions >electric and acoustic band), Tough Girl, Innocence Maintained, Deep >Water, Satellite, Fragile Heart, Sometimes It Be That Way, Love Me >Just Leave Me Alone, Fading Away, Run Tonto Run > >SOLO ACOUSTIC TRACKS: >Louisa & Her Blue Guitar, Fragile Flame, 1,000 Miles Away, Sometimes >It Be That Way, Run Tonto Run, Grey Matter, The Face Of Love, Nicotine >Love, Moon Over Austin (aka Hotel Angel), Buttercup, Absence Of Fear, Nikos >(reworked under new title) ******************************************************** That's all. But hey, if you have the money go for it (just make sure that it really is her sig. and someone didn't forge it, b/c they know that she is getting pretty famous) And on the other hand I can't undertstand why anyone would have wanted to sell this CD in the first place. They must have been temporarily insane.
