This list has been getting increasingly obsessive lately. The whole angels thing is getting way overboard, wearing wings and stuff? come on now, let's not become freaks about this.I have to deal with enough of such folk at Tori concerts, hopefully Jewel will not suffer the same fate. Number two sign of obsessiveness, Renee Zellweger, who looks a bit like Jewel, yeah, but there are posts about her being on a movie on HBO because she looks like Jewel? OBSESSIVE. Relax, really people, and it's not just obsessive but possessive. I took a lot of shit on this list for saying that I don't want her to be too famous, that she should stick to small clubs and not sell out and I took heat for being selfish and wanting to keep Jewel to myself but then anytime anyone even mentions the Jewelstock tapes we get way possessive, what, what, someone outside the list mayhave a copy, oh god, oh no, what shall we do??? And the bootlegging thing too, I was extremely disturbed and upset to find that you all allowed him to censor you by disallowing even the mention of the word bootleg, he may be the list manager, but who is he to tell us what we can or cannot talk about in relation to Jewel. Now, I'm sure the typical anti-Sean Hooks mail will be coming again after this one, but again, someof you will agree with me. Oh well. I anxiously await the new album and proposed acoustic tour of small venues, maybe I will be actually able to see her perform(and I mean actually SEE her as opposed to seeing her from section 119 in Madison Square Garden) again. Now that you ask... what are the generation afeter gen x? i The Baby Boomers refers to the group that was part of the post war (WWII) jump in birth rates... the oldest are in their late 40s, early 50s. The youngest are in their 30s. There is often referrence to either the younger or older half, with varying labels, as well. Starting in the late 60s, the birth rate in the US suddenly dipped again. This yields the group sometimes called the Baby Busters (the growth "boom" went "bust"), but is more often called "generation X," because of a lack of clear dominant demographically predictablee behavior. The basic idea was that the members of gen X (ranging from maybe my age of 27 at the top end, down to around 18-20 or so, now) were rather lost in the shadow of the baby boomers. The X is meant to indicate the nameless, faceless nature of the generation. As always, the term ignores the real people behind the attempt to box people in. By the mid 70s, birth rates had climbed back up. Due in large part to the social, political and economic dangers facing the US population in the future, there is much concern that the baby boomers who now dominate politics, will refuse to do any more to acknowledge the problems of the runaway government budgets, etc, than the generations before it, while, because of their sheer numbers, costing it more and more.. Because this generation will be the generation that is just coming of age as the first of the baby boomers begin to retire, having failed to plan for retirement in any way, shape or form, it's quite possibly the generation that's going to inhereit a staggering debt load, without as high an upward income potential as the first boomer generation (this gen being a sort of second, "mini" boom.) As such, some of the younger members here are probably in the group that's been referred to as the "Lotsa Luckers," since they may need it. It's also refered to as generation sex, in recognition of the climbing teen pregancy rates, and it a "cute" attempt to borrow from the name of gen "X." IMHO, it's lots easier to say we are Every Day Angels. :) Ray Wong PO BOX 6163 negativl@best.com, negativl@netcom.com Hayward, CA 94540-6163 Member #11537, Deborah Gibson International Fan Club Co-Founder and Charter Member, Sutton Foster International Fan Club ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 1997 21:18:25 +0000 From: "Andrew Fu" Subject: Re: "Discount" CD Clubs i.e. BMG, Columbia, etc. > =) Jewel does not get royalties from these CD purchases. What a coincidence, my sister did it too... she has yet to receive her book though... Please take the advice my sister didn't, it's a scam! Granted it's one of the nicer and cheaper scams, a scam none the less. -Bruce bhartford3rd@juno.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jan 1997 00:46:51 EST From: jewelfan1@juno.com (Liz A Clark) Subject: ATTN:Feb. 15 in Toledo!!! Hi my angels who would like to attend the Feb. 15 extravaganza at my house, I live in Toledo, OH (NW OH near MI border) just a minute away from the Ohio Turnpike (80) and about 8 minutes from I-75. It is really easy to get to my house!!! Anyway, this will be happening on February 15th!! You can arrive at any time that is convenient for you. Anyone is welcome to crash over Friday or Saturday night, but please keep in mind, my house isn't that big. There are several hotels nearby my house. There is the Ramada, Holiday Inn, and a Motel 6 also about a minute away from my house...right down the street. There is going to be no real format to this get-together. Everyone is welcome to bring tapes to trade or movies or their guitars or whatever. We could even attack the mall, movie theater or go...gasp...bowling. If anyone has ideas PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Food and beverages will be provided. Look forward to some fun and getting to know each other a little better!!! I hope you all can make it!!!! If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. Shelly and I are looking forward to your company!!! Once again I am home. This time I am home from Snowmass-Aspen, CO!! I had a wonderful time skiing and snowboarding! I' m just sorry that I missed the party at Tom's...I'm jealous! :( I probably won't be saying that much this week because I have exams! ;-P~ I had the coolest experience on the way to the Detroit airport...We were in the car at about 7:30 AM Detroit's 101.1 was having a best of '96 edition and they aired a "Harris poll". This is where they call random people with the last name Harris around the country and ask them their thoughts on current issues. It was quite humorous!! I kept waiting for Dean or Dennis to be on, but no luck! ;-) Then I hear, "This is Steve Poltz from the Rugburns". I literally screamed!!! They sang the ABC's and Me and Eddie Vedder. Time out!! Shelly wants to say "hello" ok, "hello" hope all of you are well. Selena, we need your address so we can send some pictures from the Philly show! HILARIOUS!!!!! that is all I have to say!! Hi Crunchy! Call me DAMMIT!!!!!!!!! Hope to see all of you on Feb. 15th!!! Love ya!--Shelly :) =) Ok...question...I don't have time to read all of the past digests, but could someone please tell me if the Indianapolis has been confirmed, wiped out, or whatever! Shelly and I are there if it happens!!! Thanks, Talk to ya'll later!! Number >two sign of obsessiveness, Renee Zellweger, who looks a bit like Jewel, Okay first of all, Why dont YOU lighten up! We want to wear "Angel Gear" So we will be able to notice each other and have Jewel notice us at shows...We werent REALLY planning on wearing wings (well not the sane people anyways) and The Renee, Joey, Jewel look-alike posts are just something to take up time and they are fun posts...I like all of the movie posts that it has spun off of it (mallrats, Dazed and confused, clerks....etc...) Discussing movies (and actresses) is interesting, and its not like were still getting the 100 e-mails a day like before, The list has quieted down conciderably and these posts are just something to have fun with...So lighten up please. I did not make this post to offend anyone in anyway, so please dont flame me.
