I noticed 'Reality Bites' was in there. Reality Bites happens to be one of my very favorite movies for 2 reasons: Winona Ryder and Janeane Garafalo. I scanned the movie in my head and couldn't figure out a scene with a pretty blonde girl in it. If someone knows, fill me in! I'm glad someone mentioned Mallrats. It's *so so so so so so so so* good. Another of my favorites--2 reasons: Jay and Silent Bob and Brody (or is it Brodee?) Mallrats is the best!! I love all the Jedi jokes and the dating game scene. oh yeah I can't forget those great Mission Impossible Jay and Silent Bob scenes either. "Okay lunchbox, let's try this again." and I love that "I'd do it, but I pulled my back out humpin your mom last night--neehg" :) I completely reccomend the 2nd installement in the Jersey trilogy. (If you don't know, it's: Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy) I do admit the 3 nipple lady is a weirdo. Since we're speaking of our Jewel look-alikes, Reese Witherspoon kindof reminds of Jewel. Not as much as Renee, but more than Joey. Reese is one of my favorites. She's in SFW and Fear. She was also in an HBO Original movie that came out June 1996. If anybody knows the title, I'd be so so so so grateful. I've tried emailing HBO about it, but there's been no response. She played a beautiful tough girl that could kick everybody's ass. I loved it. I think the title had the word highway in it--not sure. If anybody has any ideas, not matter how distant, let me know please! Cool! Got the tape into the VCR, waiting, waiting, an hour and a half later, she shows up, but with the familiar opening to WWSYS. Still worth waiting for. Then I flip around to catch whatever else is on (definitely a guy thing - you wouldn't want to miss out on that Stihl Lumberjack competition from 1981 that they're re-running on ESPN2), when I see Deep Blue Something doing an acoustic version of "Breakfast at Tiffany's," and I think "Hmmm...maybe they're doing some live show and Jewel will be on!" Wouldn't you know it, the next artist is Jewel! The show was actually all the Crossroads live performances, and I had seen this one before, but had never gotten it on tape. Cool ;-) Then, I go down to the garage to continue re-finishing my futon frame. By this time it's 1 am, but I need to get the initial coat on so that I can sand it during the week and apply the second coat in time for the Superbowl. By the way, and EDAs in Nashville or nearby are welcome to come watch the Superbowl at my house. We can listen to / watch Jewel during the commercials and halftime. We can even watch during the game, as long as someone can figure out how to get my picture-in-picture thing working right. Anyway, I'm downstairs staining away, when my new favorite dj comes on 100.1 WRLT. The guy's name is John Larson, and he's the overnight dj. On New Year's Day, at 3:00 in the morning or something like that, with me working toward a eyeball-shooting hangover, I call the dj and ask for YWMFM. He says ok, he'll try to get it on sometime that morning. Next thing I know (literally 3 minutes later), I hear it on the radio. Only, it's some live acoustic version I don't think I've heard before. Really cool. Not only does he actually play a request, and play it quickly, not like some other djs who think people have all day to sit by the radio and wait for a requested song to come on, but he plays some rare version of the song. So anyway (sorry about the ramble), this time I was only thinking about asking for some more Jewel, when I hear the opening guitar strums to "Flower." I sit there thinking "I must be breathing way too many fumes, because my EDA tape is going, yet I thought I was listening to the radio." Then I realized that "Flower" was being played on the radio! I waited for John Larson to come back on, and after a couple of songs he did. When he went over the songs he had just played, he said "...and before that we had Jewel, doing a song off a sampler of hers called Save the Linoleum. The song was called 'Flower.'" So has anyone else heard stuff other than WWSYS or YWMFM on the radio? Just curious. If you all would like me to look into doing something with hats, I'll get some samples done this week. We'd definitely have to look into getting permission to use the sketch, but I imagine that wouldn't be too hard if we all promised to be really nice and stuff :) chris! Christopher G. I finally decided to buy the "Craft" soundtrack and went to Circuit City to buy it, but they sold out. So I went to Tower and they were sold out (also sold out of WWSYS singles [still #24!] and only had 2 YWMFM singles), so I went to Sam Goody. They had also sold out of "Craft" soundtracks and all Jewel's singles. I went to the last place I knew in town, the Wherehouse, where I was finally able to find the "Craft". I realize Jewel fans may not be the sole reason for the scarcity of this disk, but it seems as though more people are discovering this aptly named treasure we've been blessed with! Reese Witherspoon is in "Freeway" with Kiefer Sutherland, directed by Matthew Bright. It's still playing at an incredibly long engagement at the Opera Plaza theatres in San Francisco. Supposed to be a really incredible film, many critical raves. I'm going to try to see it today or tommorrow before I fly to Mexico on Thursday for a few weeks of photography and volcano hopping. It's been playing in SF since it came out, Aug. 23, 1996! How much longer will it last?! (probably not til I get back. Anyway, one of my climbing buddies going to Mexico with me is a photographer/cinemetographer/director/ and was a child actor. So was his sister. Some of you may remember her...Soleil Moon Frye ("Punky Brewster" what a kick, huh?). Anyway, I'm staying at Soleil's house Wed. night, and Reese may be there. Meeno (my climbing buddy) Says "you've got to meet her, she's so sweet, so cool. I'll invite her over.." Small, strangely weaved world, huh? I'd say store them in their native form or EPS, so the type on the card doesn't get fuzzy and unreadable, like with GIF/JPEG files. EPS files can be read and written by nearly all page layout and draw programs (including old faves like Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW!, Macromedia FreeHand and QuarkXPress). Still, if the old layouts are long gone, a scan would be better than having a gap. - -- Other Andrew avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jan 1997 16:44:23 -0500 From: Soul42@aol.com Subject: NJC: Calling All EDAs for Help Hi EDAs, Hey yall, it's me, Will, and I'm back from the news-list. Ok, we need your help, Erica was talking a real close-minded jerk today who said some unkindly things. She believes it maybe someone from school. Here's how the conversation went: GotiPhish: Hey! What's up? VCavallo: Ummm nothing.... GotiPhish: :-) heh heh. VCavallo: Ok... GotiPhish: You're silly. VCavallo: I am? VCavallo: Thank you :) GotiPhish: Think nothing of it. Actually, I think you're as normal as they come. VCavallo: I know...Everyone else are the WEIRD ones.... GotiPhish: Tell me about it. It's a twisted world we live in! Ahjgs! VCavallo: yesh it is.... GotiPhish: Phish heads Phish heads, happy laughing phish heads..... VCavallo: intresting.... GotiPhish: took a phish head out to see a movie. didn't have to pay to get it in. VCavallo: That's funny they made me pay for my sister's dead body... GotiPhish: Ork?! VCavallo: huh? GotiPhish: ... They don't play baseball, they don't wear sweaters, they're not good dancers, they don't PLAY DRUMS!! VCavallo: why not? GotiPhish: ....Phish heads, phish heads, happy laughing phish heads. GotiPhish: phish heads, phish heads, eat them up! YUM!!! VCavallo: Uh... Ok.... GotiPhish: :0 VCavallo: :?D GotiPhish: Cute. You're a retard. VCavallo: That's not nice.... GotiPhish: Why?! You are! VCavallo: why do you say that... GotiPhish: because You have just one fuckin' huge eyebrow. :) GotiPhish: Take that, psycho! VCavallo: So? GotiPhish: So, that impairs your brain waves. or something. VCavallo: not really... GotiPhish: Hell yeah. That's why you're retarted. It's true. VCavallo: Well, I don't think I'm a retard....just because of my eyebrow... GotiPhish: You bet. VCavallo: How does imparing my brain wave make me a retard.... GotiPhish: Well, you see.. (anatomy lesson) the brain is found within your skull. When your brain goes to transmit stuff, it gets blocked by your fuckin' huge eyebrow. VCavallo: I don't think so .... you must of failed that class... GotiPhish: Grammar time kids! I think the sentence you were looking for was "you must HAVE failed that class." GotiPhish: And, no, I didn't. VCavallo: I don't really care what you think.... GotiPhish: Why should you? If you cared what everyone thought about you (which is a lot of people) you'd be comatose. VCavallo: wow....really.....that's too bad.... GotiPhish: You're fuckin' tellin me. VCavallo: So alot of people talk about me? GotiPhish: Hell yeah. VCavallo: And its not nice? GotiPhish: Not at all. It's pretty rude. VCavallo: Oh...Why would they have something bad to say about me? .... I don't think I'm very rude to them.. GotiPhish: It's cause you're a freak. VCavallo: that's all? Cause I'm a freak? That's a bit mean... GotiPhish: Well, think of it this way. If you weren't a freak, no one would make fun of you. VCavallo: But I don't think I'm a freak.... It's a matter of opinion.... What is your definition of a freak? GotiPhish: You're a friggin Goth. You probably drink blood. Maybe that's why my dog's missing!! you ate my dog!!! VCavallo: I don't like blood.... try pudding it's better.... And I'm NOT a goth.... I know some goth... GotiPhish: Then how do you classify yourself? VCavallo: As a person who just does things differently.... GotiPhish: What catergory? VCavallo: I dunno .... VCavallo: you pick... GotiPhish: freak? VCavallo: Well... you can classify me as that.... But I'll stick to a human being.... GotiPhish: You have no clue who this is. VCavallo: nope, nor do I care.... GotiPhish: Good. You weren't gonna find out anyway. GotiPhish: Biatch. VCavallo: Oooo now we got some harsh words, don't we? GotiPhish: You bet. VCavallo: And you think I'm the freak? Anyway, if this a$$hole would listen to POY a few billion times it may help. I was thinking maybe all the EDAs could send him some junk/hate mail or something just to teach him a lesson. Just mail him anything and let him know we don't appreciate people acting like that. I say pluck it, but if plucking isn't your thing, pluck you. Okay, that was silly. But i really would have a mono-brow and unsightly nose hairs and zits if i didn't take measures to avoid them. Some people will never accept you for whatever you are. Be true to yourself, and it will work out much better in the long run. Sure, people judge the way you dress and look first- so i wear nice clothes and try to look neat. But if you don't care, don't. It's up to you. And who cares what closed minded people care about you? They aren't worthy of being my friend anyway. It's hard to see when you're in High School, but the geekier ones then are the ones that are making the "popular" ones jealous now :) Hope it didn't bother you too much, James ________________________________________________________________________ http://www.eng.auburn.edu/~juddjam Auburn University Auburn, Alabama The geeks shall inherit the earth. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V2 #9 *************************
