The main reason I finally started going to their shows was because of this list. Although I live in their backyard, I didn't have much interest in hearing them. Let me explain. Early this past year while attending a Wayne Kramer show at the Casbah, I noticed a promo poster for the Rugburns. It had a picture of the band and they had dresses on. The cross-dressing did influence or turn me off. After all, the New York Dolls and Alice Cooper were favorites from the past. But if they were only a gimmick or shock band, I wasn't interested. Content is what I look for in a band. They were scheduled to play soon at the club. Since It was my first visit to this club and I enjoyed it, I thought I might check the Rugburns out as well. I started to talk to a bartender about the band. He told me he loved them because they brought the big spending big tipping BMW crowd from North County. Yea, but how do they sound I asked. He said he didn't really like their music. With that info, I decided that they must just be a popular trendy band and wouldn't be music I'd enjoy. My mistake was that the info was coming from a stanger that never gave me an idea of what his taste was to qualify his statement. Many new CDs that I purchased recently have been because of hearing about them from EDAs. One thing I know about everyone on this list is that they all like Jewel. That means they at least have some good taste. So when I started reading posts raving about the Rugburns, I knew there was a good chance that they were going to be worth checking out. What suprised me most was how many people were writing about them from places other than San Diego. It is clear that the Rugburns have found a home with the disciminating taste of the EDA family of fine music listeners. Igor P.S. I should add that KUPR helped a bit as well. But now that great station is only a memory unless you like watered down country music. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jan 1997 00:22:47 -0500 From: PhishinH20@aol.com Subject: well....hey well hi. im ashley. um....thats a start, im usually not his shy-ive been on the list forever but ive been very quiet-quite not the norm for me. well im sweet sixteen-probably more sixteen than sweet, but im trying. i just thought id introduce myself-anything to make me quit torturing my self with world history and warsa and crusades and stuff. i think this is really great-getting to write to a bunch of sensitive people and being able to feel safe and secure-its nice. i hope everybodys new year is full of magic and hope and passion and firsts and smiles and angels. itd be nice. wow-ive been writing forever...............um............okay-im going to try something new. for the boy who id let break my heart a billion times dont tell me what you're thinking i can see it in your eyes but maybe if youll just pretrend ill go along with your disguise please dont break my heart now because you have it in your hands and i cant afford to lose it but you never listen to my demands REPETEING PART: but if you would just smile and hold my hand real tight i think i could let you break my heart a billion times a night im so happy in this place and you act like its okay but i know you're gonna leave me when i want you to stay repeteing part your smile is a mask that covers up your ploy and even though i know its hp'ning im willing to be your toy ~rethinking this and you say "sweetie, we really need to talk so i close my eyes and talk a breath and let you lead me on a walk repeting part oh god my heart is breaking and the tears begin to fall fuck you dumbass bastard you nearly had it all and if you had just stayed and held my dirty hands i would be okay now still your number 1 fan please dont stand there anymore just seeing you makes me cry but...if you miss me just give me one more try because if you had just smiled and held my hand real tight i know i would have let you break my heart a billion times a night well-c'est ca!!! im looking for any body who has tapes with Cold Song, Fragile Heart, His Pleasure is my Pain, Sometimes it Be That Way, 1,000 miles away,Jessica, Everything Breaks Sometime, or No More Heartaches. not that i wouldnt like to talk to anyone about any shows or anthing really-im really open, and i hope i can get to know everybody. Hello EDAs, I was so happy to see that Jewel was shown several times on MTV's best of 96. I just happened to have the tv on when they showed her talking about her fave actors or 96. Then for the Women of '96, they did a little tiny segment on her where they showed parts of WWSYS and her singing it from that er... beach house thingie or whatever. Then they did a little bit of an interview with her. She usually sounds kinda shy and quiet(er) in interviews but this time she sounded really talkative! :) Okay, one more. This morning I was listening to the radio and they were doing the Hollywood gossip/news or whatever and they actually mentioned Jewel doing the nominees for the Grammys! I was expecting them to list more but they only said Jewel and I was like, "wow! the station that barely ever plays Jewel... as if the people are even going to know who she is...." I know it's been said, but I just wanted to remind everyone that BMG, et al do not pay royalties to the artists (which is partly why they can lower prices). the pressings count for sales numbers for awards, but only up to half total sales, I think. An EveryDayAngel, Bryan If any one else wants to know whats going on, please read the following message: Hey Angels, I have consulted with Katherine(Angel) and Jared(SuperDeformed Angel), and we have finally come to a conclusion on when to have the Meeting. I have decided on January 4, 1997. It is the first weeked of the New Year. Now I need to know who will attend so that I can work out rides and places to stay if needed. I know alot of you don't have transportation so we came to this conclusion. We will meet at my house which is located in Commack, New York (It's on Long Island). I live near all the major Highways, Ferrys and Train Stations. We will give directions after we find out who is coming and for where one is leaving from. This way, we can tell you the quickest simplist way to my house. After Arrivial, we'll hang of course; talk Jewel, listen Jewel and Live Jewel. I would like to do this earlier so it gives everyone time to get to know each other. Later that night or after dinner, we can get coffee at a local Coffee shop called Romancing the Bean. Every night, they have live accoustic music. It's a nice place. Basically, I need to know who wants to go; so please send me info. THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ANYONE ON THE LIST WHO WANTS TO ATTEND NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE!!!! Sorry, I need this stuff again :) Name and Screen Name Place of departure (City, State) Phone # Once I know who is going, I'll send another Email with COMPLETE INFO. I actually didn't know Tom Proven was going to show it but have heard from a couple of people that he did. I'm a bit shocked/surprised but I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough. I didn't make it for public viewing but I guess it's OK that he showed it. I feel kinda self conscious. guess a whole bunch of you know lots about me and my family now, right? I did mention to Eric that I wished I could have been at the party. I guess in a funny way I was, wasn't I? I'm hoping to get a new, faster modem this month and so resubscribe to the list. My current modem is just way to slow to deal with downloading a pile of mail at once. Hi EDAs! If anyone else wants and is having trouble finding the MOM cd, I might be able to help. I saw about 20 of them the other day at Best Buy. They were $12.99. E-mail me privately and we can work something out. Funny thing, I went there twice that day. The first time, they had 0 POY CDs and 1 YWMFM single. A few hours later, they had 0 YWMFM singles, but 5 POY CDs. Blah Blah Blah. Later Y'all, --Neal ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jan 1997 22:19:37 -0600 (CST) From: "BRADLEY C. My name is Alan Wong, and I am a new member on the list. I was wondering if anyone has any information on how I can get Jewel merchandise such as posters and music videos/live performances on tape? I've heard from others that Jewel played on Conon O'Brien and the MTV beachhouse. If anyone out there has any of this on tape, please email me. I am interested in getting a copy of it. I will be glad to cover all the expenses towards the tape/postage. I am also interested in her music videos also, because I have not seen them. Thanks in advance!
