Funny thing about this is that right before I read this digest, I was looking through my collection of old CDs and tapes looking for that exact CD. Didn't find it =(. Yuka Sato is a defending world champion skater. Her program was skated to "Angel Standing By." It was wonderful to see this kind of interpretation of a Jewel song. What a wonderful compliment to Jewel by having Yuka choose her song to skate to. She did it justice by getting scores that looked like she would be a clear winner. When she was introduced, the broadcaster also announced "and she will be skating to "Angel Standing By, by Jewel." Because of this exposure, thousands of people will be going to record stores asking for someone named Jewel. People that would have never heard her because they don't watch MTV or listen to rock radio will suddenly want to hear more of Jewel. I hope a lot of critics on the list don't think this is bad. Jewel will always belong to us. We will just have to share her with a few more people. Igor ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 05:04:27 -0800 From: Victor Igor Wasylczenko Subject: LC:EDA Encounter My pager goes off and the number left was unknown to me. I call and the person that answered starts saying, "I'll leave a small bag with all unmarked bills....". I immediatly hang up and called the police. This sounded like someone got the wrong pager number and I just was in the loop of a kidnapping. If not, then this had to be an awful prank. Well would you believe it if I told you that I got a busy signal calling the non emergency police number. I tried again and it was still busy. The third time, it started ringing, but I hung up just in time. I stood there with a red face realizing how stupid I was. My pager went off again and my mind resolved the mystery just in time. Let me explain. It started when a few EDAs met before the Xmas Ball at 4th & B in San Diego. As we left the Brewery to go to the concert, Eric Garske stopped at my car to leave a few things there instead of going all the way back to his car. What was left with me were rare Jewel photos of appearances from The Innerchange. My son and I left the show early so I had the photos. Eric sent me an email with his phone number. When I called, I got his voice mail and I left a message, "This is the photo kidnapper and if you ever want to see your pictures again call 555-1212." But I did leave my real number. He didn't return the call until a few days later. When I finally returned his second page, I mumbled and talked nervously. Eric had no idea what stupid thing I almost did. When he answered the phone, he was only trying to continue the thread of what I started. My brother is still laughing. When Eric called again the other day, my brother yells out to me, "hey Igor, it's the kidnap victim on the phone again." I have a friend who is currently taking email for me at ldecours@frontiernet.net. If you should need to contact me, you can contact me there. This also means that the EDA Poetry Page is over before it really got a chance to start. I still have all of the old .html files in my hard drive and will be making a .zip of them to send to anyone who wishes to continue this endeavor. If you are interested, please email me at the aforementioned address and I will set you up. I hope someone takes me up on this offer. Through this friend, I may be able to join the News list. I would like, at this time to thank those responsible for its creation. I never thought that I would need to use it, but now that I do, I am very thankful it is there, as it will be my only link to you angels for what will be potentially a long time. Hopefully, now and again, I will be able to drop in on Saturday night #jewel. Well, that's actually the toughest "open" question. The EDA-only question is veteran-biased, since many newcomers won't even be able to get the song on tape until after the holidays. Now here's a question to try: Which Atlantic exec actually signed Jewel to the label? And, for Extra Credit, where is that exec now? - -- Andrew 'Trivial Pursuit' Vernon avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #884 ***************************
