The recent problems regarding dubs and bootlegs of the JewelStock tapes really annoys me. So, from this point forward, any discussion of bootlegs (even mentioning the word bootleg) will win you a one-way trip off of the list. I'm serious--mention bootlegs and you're gone. I'm sorry to take such a hard-line about it, but given the past problems we've had with the list I'm not going to sit on the sidelines and watch the list do a death spiral. I also have to consider our moral and legal obligations to Jewel. Oh, and Merry Christmas. Well, I guess I haven't been all that angelic lately, but I do see a trend that things may finally be cooling down. Things should stabilize over the holidays since most of the collegians will be away from their service for the next several weeks and maybe us pros can snarf a day off or two. Things are kinda tough right now because YWMFM is progressing upchart slowly, She's finished all of her appearances for the year (save New Year's) and we're still four months away from the new album. This probably explains why newcomers are clammoring for tapes-- March is a pretty long time when you've just discovered somebody. > James, who couldn't help enjoy making Jewel snowangels yesterday(yep, in AL) _You_ got snow? I'm serious--mention bootlegs and you're gone. Please allow me to clarify my definition of a bootleg: A bootleg is a _commercial_ copy of a musician's work that is not authorized by the artist or record company. In accordance with Lenendra's (Jewel's mom) wishes, I am also considering DAT (or ANY digital) copies of JewelStock to be bootlegs. So, it's still ok to talk about trading cassettes of Jewel's performances between yourselves--Jewel has said this is ok (in fact, she has encouraged it). Please don't call them bootlegs, since that generally means 'illegal'. If you have questions about what is acceptable, please send your question to owner-jewel@smoe.org. - -Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Dec 1996 22:41:33 -0500 (EST) From: Gregory Willms Subject: Re: ADMIN: Read this now this is exactly what i meant in my post before about this list getting a little too tense. i think jeff is doing the right thing. and the right thing for me to do is to get off this list... at least for the time being. its too hard to sift through all the crap and bad vibes to find one or two worthwhile posts to read. ive met a lot of great people on this list, and i thank everyone who's made tapes for me, sent me articles or magazines or anything, visited my web page, or even just shared a kind word with me. and especially jeff for having this list in the first place. ill probably be back eventually, but for now, im gone. happy holidays everyone. - -greg - ---------------------------------------- http://www.geocities.com/broadway/2606 | - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I was walking through the country and passing through lovely scenery when I came upon some rotting remains: and though the carcass was wormy... well after all, it's all part of nature's art of cleaning. -- Brad Roberts - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Let me have music dying, and I seek no more delight." -- John Keats - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Dec 1996 23:10:50 -0500 From: Splugorth@aol.com Subject: Re: Jewel in Jan.s Playboy issue (with Marilyn Monroe) In a message dated 96-12-19 19:44:10 EST, bhartford3rd@juno.com (Bruce D Hartford III) writes: << I just bought the January Playboy magazine (I'm getting my cousin a subscription for his eighteenth b-day,... As a matter of fact, no. That's not what I just said. In fact, I quoted what I said above. I do see what you're saying now, but when I first read it, it brought back the memorys of the loyal Nirvana fan threads. Now because of all this recent bashing I tried to get the point across that I wasn't attacking you or your thoughts, and I apologize if I didn't get that point across well enough....and I didn't say "Nirvana sucks". I said they had some decent tunes, but I didn't think that they were, overall, that good. Hey...that's just my opinion though. Sorry if I've hit a nerve or something.
