It's like meeting a really nice woman in college and finding out you can't see her because you're not in the right fraternity. > I don't blame anyone for this. (if it is true) Heck, we were half > expecting one of the "leaves" back in September would be a bootlegger > who was just bideing his time to get the tapes when we treed it. My statement earlier was supposed to express irony. I mean, with people like Theremin, no wonder I get rebuffed. Well, I don't know what to do. As I said, I'm not a tape trader, so I don't have anything of value to barter with anybody. All I want to do is hear more Jewel. If I want to make money, I go to my office. I want to hear things that didn't make the album. I want to hear things that made the album without the session players around. I even want to hear her speak. I don't even have a good idea about what her everyday voice. This is kind of hard to do since Birmingham is so unpopular with up-and-coming artists. Most Southeast tours go through only Atlanta or Nashville. Birmingham only gets country or adult contemporary acts. Well, Counting Crows and Fiona Apple are booked for February, but that's a rare exception. I want to contribute something, but I don't know what I _can_ contribute yet-- there's not much need for what I can do right now and not many opportunities to do it. So for all you newbies, don't do it. And I am sorry that you are being insulted for something that only one of you perhaps did. I personnal do not feel that it is wrong for some people to join the list just to get tapes, because the would not want them if they did not like Jewel. BUT, to sell them sucks. The conclusion is...do't do it. I didn't mean to sound like a lecturer, but being on this list for a year and half, and seeing a huge amount of people join just to get tapes, I think one has to conclude that some joiners are sell-outs. Everyone, In a state of my lord my brain is full, senior finals here at college, I went into IRC and got into a conversation with...drum rolls...Theremin in #Jewel (undernet). Well first there was a few others there talking about this and that. I asked who was an EDA (got two new people I think tonight, hi guys its me Purple21)...and out came from Theremin that he was. Well question what do you mean by that. Big story bla bla bla (its in the previous post) bla bla bla. Okay now looking back on it maybe I shouldn't of posted this to the list...please excuss me my brain is full of Immunology questions (anyone want to discuss auto-immunity its on the test tomorrow morning at the ungodly 7:45 AM). This young man is obviously just upset about not being able to get what he wanted, well as my good friend (well I did meet her once, I got pictures...she put her arm around me!!!) Patty Griffin would say "You never get what you want" (gotta love her). Heck I really want the boot of Mrs. Griffin at JS, but that will probably never happen. I think Theremin (still don't know what that means, mine [Purple21] is my favorite color and in honor of Fuzzy [btw he is doing great, him and 'Zilla went out and saw "Mars Attacks" great flick, go see it, 'Zilla's bigger brother is in it]). Anyways I am digressing...I wouldn't worry to much about him, heck there are already two CD boots out there on the market. Also if you think that some company is going to make a quasi-legal CD boot of the tapes, which would amount to atleast 3CDs if you cut out all but the songs which will make the set cost aroung $45+ US dollars then who will be able to buy it? Not me, well I have the tapes. If it does come out, well I say just open up the trading of the tapes and maybe even the video (where is that anyways, will it ever come out Skinny Pete [if your out there, Hi!!]). Oh well if it does come out I hope that it includes Liz, Tom, Alan, me and others screamin' out during the show (heck maybe we'll become famous also). In the end its more publisity for the sweet Angel Jewel. I know I want to see a really nicely done live album by her in the future, and I don't think this will be it. If you have ever heard one of the Import Bootleg CDs then you have heard them all, they are largely crap, no where near the quality of some of the boots floating around our family of EDAs. All in all as Mike said this was bound to happen, it has already with those other two cds. I'm still going to buy the new album even though I could recreate it on tape from various boots. take care all of you out there, and to fellow students good luck on finals, happy holidays, Robb ps. this may be my last post till the new year, going how for the holidays and no computer nor internet access. Apparently they're discontinuing these in favor of leather, and certain vegetarian tree-hugging types can't do leather. OW! Sorry. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if his subsequent irrational behavior was related to this. Read over his conversation with Robb, and tell me this person was in a rational frame of mind. He gives disjointed replies, contradicts himself, and doesn't seem to clearly recall who he has conversed with before -- even forgetting Alan's name and nickname. In other words, do we know for sure that this person isn't just having an episode related to his medical problems? I know we can't just pretend he's not there and hope he'll go away -- but there might be an explanation for his behavior, other than the apparent. Being a member of this mailing list is stating to sound comparable to being a vampire. When you start out, you'r young and unexperianced in the ways of this subculture (for lack of a better word), you just want to see all that there is to see and make a place in this new world for yourself. It is this that makes many of the "newbies" die off (in the case of this list that means leafe), Then you start to become respected and earn a nice, comfy place among your "kindred" and injoy it. Then as you drag on you start to become wery of that same place, the new ones bother you a little more and give you trouble, untill you are just watching and go into "lurking" much like many older vamipres tend to start sleeping for days/weeks/mounths/years. Although he does claim to have a DAT recorder, he doesn't claim to have or have had a tape or a Jewel show.... I think we were all just given a great big scare.... Before you start sending me emails asking me stuff, please realize first that some of the things below are NOT true. For example, please disregard comments made towards purple, etc. If I had even half let on that I was trying to get info from him, our conversation would've been over REAL fast... So please don;t think that anything below reflects MY views of this list or the people therein... Also, HE initiated the conversation.... not me. He saw I was in the chat room and started a conversation... he started asking my opinion of everyone as soon as he heard I was a newbie.... PS: He had NO CLUE that I was trying to get the info that i got from him.... I hope that this SETTLES THINGS!!! so, then, you're mad at Alan I take it... I have been for a while but that is not the point did he sh*t on you or something? he was the biggest jerk to me ever, then he posted some of our emails to eachother and very nicely left the ones out that made him look like a jerk. I quit EDA because of it. EDA didn't mean that much to me, so screw him. right, but all of the sudden, it seems like a big deal over nothing. yeah, I'm not on EDA anymore, I didn't post that stuff. I just talked to someone about it. It was his choice to post it, I would've prefered he didn't Well, he did... causing a big stink. the guy who posted was an idiot man Does he know the truth? We got into a discussion about Jewel's albums... and he said... albums? she only has one he was so dumb i think he said something about selling tapes or something... heehee, I told him that I sneak DAT recorders into shows (a lot of bands) that you are not suppose to does he know that portable DATs cost a lot? probably not. he doesn;t think that musicians get a fair amount of money from touring.... he's nuts do you have a DAT? friend has JVC DAT (not portable), another friend with portable, you? sony portable (he gives specs - he's for real on this part - they were almost a page long) (further long conversation.... re:nothing) So you said you have a friend who has another friend who has a portable? yeah... has he ever gotten into a show with it? tried getting in NIN, but it didn't work... you have any luck with yours? yeah, I got phish at Jazzfest (Long conversation about No Doubt) - Terrence R.
