Well, I really doubt that Jewel sounds like that (if she does it's odd), but if your remeber at all the original Wizard of Oz movie that is how Dorthy (played by whatshername then) talked in it. So I'm gonna have to say that is acting. In fact, when I 1st got the CD I was thinking "wow, she even sounds like Dorthy". Odd, never thought I would have a CD with the music from Wizard of Oz on it but here I am listing to just that. My childhodd revisited....hmmm, bad thought. I used to be on this list about a year ago... it was a bit different then. I finally got my own email again. Its good to be back! I have a few things I'd like to say. First, thanks to all you wonderful EDAs--I have learned so much about Jewel and have acquired quite an impressive amount of Jewel "stuff" (promo cds, concerts, tapes, etc.) from being on this list. SO, if anyone would like a copy of anything I have... just ask. Second, I was wondering how I can get back on a tape tree. Also is there a Rare Angels # 3 (or higher) yet? Did anyone else get to see Jewel open for Neil Young? I saw the show up in Saratogo, NY and it was great. Jewel ditched the acoustical set and played with a band for most of the songs, including "Sometimes It Be That Way" (my personal favorite). I taped the show, but all I had was one of those dumb micro-cassette recorders, and I dont know how to get it transferred to a big tape. HELP!!??!! Anyone know how to do it? (I'll send you a free copy of the show if your tip helps!!) I also saw Jewel play at Marist college (Poughkeepsie, NY). It was in a small high school like auditorium, and she played an acoustic set. She did mostly songs from POY, but she also played a few rare requests, including "Behind the Wall" by Tracy Chapman. I thought she never did covers anymore! Well, I think I've talked enough. A number of stations try to disqualify "fan calls" by asking for zip codes, phone numbers or community names. Before you call any station out of your market, try to discover legit-sounding answers for each. Also, if you can suppress the sending of Caller ID (usually by dialing *67 before the number), do it. Many larger libraries have telephone directories from other cities available in their reference sections. Or, any EDA can post some info about their area to go along with their station contact. Example: You wanted to call WRAX (106-X, an alternative/modern rock station in Birmingham, Alabama), whose phone number is 205-741-1059. Legit Birmingham ZIP codes amd communities include: Downtown 35202, Southside 35205, Homewood 35209, Midfield 35228, Hoover 35242 Legit Birmingham phone numbers start with: 251, 252, 254, 328, 322, 923, 925, 870, 871, 403, 982, 985, 987, 780, among others. Somebody who says they're calling from Southside or Homewood is probably golden, since both areas have college campuses and lots of twentysomething students living there. And remember, don't act fannish. If you mention things like bootlegs or Jewelstock or her last name or things like that, they'll probably scribble your request on a rolling paper and then smoke it. - -- Andrew "You gotta talk the talk" Vernon avernon@scott.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Dec 1996 21:35:37 -0500 From: MsCobain1@aol.com Subject: Re: Question about tapes hello everone!! i just recently subscribed to this mailing list. i an 15. i am from binghamton ny, and i love JEWEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was wondering if anyone could help me get a tape of jewel songs other than those on the "pieces of you" album????? ~thanks! marci ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Dec 1996 22:44:43 -0400 From: "Quentin M.D. LeBlanc" Subject: Re: YWMFM Video Angel wrote: > > i was wondering if anyone noticed that Jewel seems to be giving > the middle finger in the middle of her new video. Further, not being able to drive two cars at once, I had to walk home from the shop so I could drive the other car in to work. The cumulative effect was that I departed for work at the oppoesite end of the WTTS morning program. About halfway in, I was pleased to hear YWMFM. Even nicer, it got a good solid back-announce, with details about the platinum sensation album "Pieces of You". Good. Due partly to arriving late, I stayed late at work. Not having listened to said PoY very much this last year, I found the YWMFM single arrangement intriguing; it stayed in my brain most of the afternoon, chasing itself round and round. My spare car doesn't have a CD player, and when I left work I briefly regretted not being able to pop in the new single and listen to it. Literally within a minute of turning on the radio, the announcer intro'ed YWMFM. Twice in one day at least; that constitutes "rotation", I would think. Especially for a station with a 3000 song play list. Again, the announcer back-announced YWMFM with a comment about Jewel. Wow. About 20 minutes ago, I went out to get Toni a sandwich. I'm standing in the Subway for less than 30 seconds, when out of the Muzak system comes the unmistakable guitar intro... People, I was within range of a stereo for about 15 minutes total today, and I heard one song three times.
