There are THREE words in the English language that end in the letters = "-gry". One of them is hungry, the other is angry. What is the third = word in this puzzle? THE ANSWER IS: the third word in the question is "three" ... get it? and that is it --cj--the brilliant ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Dec 1996 22:42:07 +0100 From: Thirza Pearl Subject: Re: Answers.... > cj--the physicist > ps: what's with the answer about fingers? That's NOT the right answer, we just had this question in school, and I've heard it before--it's just a word Its not a "word" thing. I also heard this riddle in school, and the awnser is Gry, The question would have had a different structure if the awnser was simply Word... Does word end in GRY? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Dec 1996 22:46:45 -0500 From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Another Jewel sighting -MTV Hey all - I was just watching the tail end of a show on MTV called "Teenage Trauma" - please don't ask me WHY I was watching it - I can reminisce, can't I? Anyway, celebs and regular kids were telling about problems they had as a teenager like not fitting in, etc. And of course I was thinking hey Jewel would be perfect for this (getting beat up everyday in Hawaii) and sure enough they showed her in a (very short) clip saying something about how music got her through her teen years or something. Sorry, I have a bad memory (senility, you know). Anyway, they may have shown more of her earlier in the show, I'm not sure. Hope this wasn't a repeat and you've heard it all before! Thanks go out to Igor and Gregory for really bringing me down after a nice holiday! Personally, Greg, I am not celebrating Thanksgiving as a tribute to pilgrims or the founding of America or anything like that. I think Thanksgiving is exactly what it says - giving thanks for the good things in our lives. And if you're not giving thanks to anyone (or any being) in particular, then it's not a bad idea to just sit and ponder the good things in your life so that you may appreciate them a little more (stop and smell the roses?) Actually, I'm glad for your letter because I went through the entire holiday weekend without once thinking about any of this or giving any thanks! Well, I know at least one thanks has to go out to all the members of this list who have become an extended family and to Jewel for creating it all (even unintentionally). Love to all, Amy (sorry Igor but I did eat turkey - and don't start thinking turkey = Dennis here!) ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Dec 1996 22:50:06 -0500 From: EDADAVID@aol.com Subject: Rambling again... Hello to all the EDA's out there, I have a few comments...(groan from stage left) (stands on soapbox) 1) First off as a newbie lurker what does NJC mean? Is it New Jewel Content? 2) Also I tried the Real Audio at the website previously mentioned to listen to the Jewel concert from Irving Plaza. I have real audio 2.0.2 or 2.0.3 or something like that ans it sounded HORRIBLE! I have a 28.8 connection....is that just me or have other people noticed it also? It sounded like someone was hitting the mike and there were always pauses during the music. The troubleshooting and help was no use... 3) Where can I get Save the Lionoleunm (hooked on fawnicks)? PLEASE NOTE THIS MESSAGE IS NOW ENTERING THE RAMBLING SECTION 4) Can anyone else recommend any other good Jewel "stuff" that they particularly like? 5) Was anyone at Irving Plaza for that concert? 6) YWMFM Video--I love the song but really wasn't thrilled with thte video. Jewel sitting there with her guitar was awesome, but the rest of it was o.k. What do u guys think? DISCLAIMER: I love Jewel and her work but that video didn't grab me Then again when I bought PoY I thought it was o.k. until I REALLY listened to it. I THINK YWMFM I AWESOME! JUST TO CLEAR THAT UP! 7) Deep Water = Incredible Song. And before I get off the soap box: If I end up having to drive 8 or so hours to see Jewel live I BETTER NOT SEE ANY FRISBEES! oh yeah I am preaching to the choir...I admire Jewels spunk for leaving the stage... From what I've heard, it *is* a joke/riddle, really, you're not supposed to fdn the "gry" word. I have a copy of it somewhere worded where you can see.. Um.. It's like, " (all the gry stuff) There are three words in 'the english language'. You use this everyday and if you listen closely I've *already told you the answer*." or something.. anyway, it's "language", because you use that every day adn that was the third word in "the english language" But that's just how I've heard it. :) (and the onyl way that sounds really like what it probably was to me.. sorta like that kids' thing.. "are you smart? spell it" ) Sarah s p y f l o w e r sarahec@freenet.tlh.fl.us spy's corner: http://www.freenet.tlh.fl.us/~sarahec *-*-* You cannot teach a person anything; you can only help him find it within himself. - Galileo I am always ready to learn, but I do not always like being taught. - Winston Churchill ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Dec 1996 20:38:24 -0800 (PST) From: GRACE JULIA LEE Subject: Ticketmaster As far as the lawsuit put up by Pearl Jam a couple of years ago through the Justice Dept., it's over. The Justice Department decided that Ticketmaster was NOT a monopoly. One of their reasons was that since Pearl Jam could set-up a tour, albeit abrupt and sporadic, ticketmaster (TicketMONSTER) was not controlling theticket sales. Of course, TM probably had lobbists on Capitol Hill wining and dining people from the Jus. Dept. Correction: PJ did NOT settle on TM to re-do the San Diego concert last year, TM just agreed to let Pearl Jam use the venue (partially to placate PJ in hopes of the investigation to go away). TM has rights to sell tickets for the San Diego Sports Arena, but agreed to let ticket sales go through ETM instead. I still wonder why TM can sometimes charge fees that are sometimes 1/3 the cost of the ticket itself. I mean, I can somewhat understand handling charges for credit cards, since TM must pay a fee for each credit card used. But I don't see merchants charging higher for goods with a credit card purchase. And recently TMonster just went public, meaning they released stock to the public. This move was to clear the debt that TM had. They were down hundreds of millions of dollars. How the heck do they lose so much money charging such high fees? How is management embezzling the profits and making it a loss. And doesn't partial owner of TM, co-founder of Microsoft, also own the Seattle Supersonics (or was it the Portland Trailblazers)? So anyways, there's your update of TicketMonster and I sympathize with anyone that has ever dealt with or been screwed by them. It was the show from Boston fromt this year. Unfortunately, they cut out the middle of it and played WWSYS instead of some of her really good songs that aren't on the album. :( Anyways, someone (my SO and his mom) told me that I look like Jewel in the YWMFM video. Cool...I don't see it, but they said it was her expressions and the way she did things in the video. Who knows? I'll have to see the video again (maybe in color( I have a tiny black and white TV in my dorm)) before I decide if they're crazy.
