They did that show all wrong. After the intro they should've dropped Estevez (no one cares about him anymore), have the "Fruge" come on just to introduce the Bear (so Conan could nearly kill the poor stuffed guy) and *definitely* do away with the Gaseous Weiner. Hi, Helen convinced me to show you my poems but I'm only brave enough to show one. I wrote it ages ago after dropping my boyfriend. Here it is (It's not very good!): Not So Perfect Everyone thought we were perfect for eachother, And I think we both knew the same, I thought we could make it last forever, But I started getting reasons to complain. Suddenly you acted like I wasn't there, You didn't even give me a smile, You sat down and wanted the other's attention, But I still waited for you to say "hi". It made me see that we weren't for eachother, You were too self centred to love me, That lunchtime I approached you on my own, And I left you, once again feeling free. Now you make me feel guilty inside You play songs to get me to come back, But I know I cannot love you again, Because when I'm with you, there's something I lack. by Rachel Mosse ------------------------------ From: "Mickey Sun" Date: Fri, 22 Nov 96 07:35:25 UT Subject: NJC: Nerds Helen, My theory is that Nerds go through the hell of high school just so they can be CEOs of giant corporations for which all the popular kids in high school will eventually work for....scrubbing toilets. And they weren't nerds, or at least didn't admit to that. Besides I'm not scrubbing toilets and I was popular. Maybe not the most popular, but popular none the less. I saw many occasions when popular girls would actually make an effort to talk to a socially challenged person, they would give these people an "in route", but they would not take it. Guys just ignored each other. Let's face it, in any clique you need an "in". My "in" was that I expressed an interest in a certain game my now long time friends used to play. We called it bb-gun wars. It was like splat ball, but with bb-guns. I admit not everyone gets that chance. I was fortunate enough to have it during high school at least. Many friends that I had in junior high, treated me negatively, because they were not in the circle that I was. I tried to run both sides of the fence, but I had to choose. So I chose the people that accepted me for who I was. Some people still weren't nice, but hey their loss. I still hang around with a lot of those people. I know KROQ's been doing this for a while and are trying to top previous years' lineups, but... you're looking at a huge mass of talent here that is only going to be allotted 15-25 minutes each, tops. If you have the power to draw names like that make it an all-day event or two or three nights - raise more money (I assume it is a charity benefit like most Xmas shows) and give them each a chance to do at least a 40-50 minute set. These are not one-hit-wonders who start getting weak after 5-10 minutes. They will almost have to do setup/breakdown while other acts are going on or there will be as much waiting as music. Even at 20 minutes each there would be almost 3.5 hours just music. Not to mention that at least half of those artists have *significant* _dedicated_ fan bases who would gladly travel 100 miles and pay $$ to see them perform for 20 minutes, making it almost guaranteed that there won't be enough tickets to go around, meaning hurt feelings and depressed people at Christmas time. None of which is to say that if I was in the area I wouldn't do everything I could to get tickets, but it just seems to me that the emphasis is being placed on "We're KROQ - look who we got (and how many of them)" rather than a genuine interest in letting the artists perform. I guess that's what the Lilith Fair will be for... bob hmmm. Picking the right songs, Jewel could probably easily fit 6-7 songs in those 20 minutes, though. ;) hey, just though of something - get 2 more artists and do a "12 Nights of Christmas", building up from the lesser knowns to the big draw. Sell All Event passes ($$$ouch!) for all 12 nights in addition to individual passes to appease those who would just show up for one artist and talk through everyone else's performances. I should go into marketing. ;) ------------------------------ From: Joe Date: Fri, 22 Nov 1996 07:15:30 -0800 Subject: SJC Rugburns Tonight Hi everybody, As most of you already know the Rugburns are playing at the Belly Up Tavern tonight in Solana Beach. Look for a really ugly guy with a pretty redhead. That will be me and Kathy. If she looks a little grouchy, she has two reasons. First is because she's with me and the other is because she just had surgery last Friday. If you don't find me right away, it's because I will be searching the place for Jewel. I have a good feeling she will turn up. For all of you other west coast EDA, show up! Don't let a little rain stop you. America take note, it's raining in San Diego. Since July 1, we have only had .09" of rain. It's all they are talking about on local TV news. Even though I find it funny that such a big deal is made out of so little rain, it does become dangerous to drive in . The rain makes all the built up oils surface.
