Some of my favorite musicians are not as talented as others but manage to reinvent what they do rather than to play the same thing each time at a concert. One of my most memorable concerts was Los Lobos; when they just broke into a medley of oldies they cut their teeth on in their garage. How do I know they just didn't plan to look like it was impromptu? Well, I was the one dancing on top of the tables yelling out the next song to jump into. Growing up in E.L.A. made it easy to know what songs they would know. Anyone remember the Buckinghams? Sorry for being so nostalgic. Anyway, I'm glad to see so many people quoting parts of "Sometimes It Be That Way," which is one of my current fave songs, but I'm also disappointed that, as far as I've noticed, no one has yet quoted from "Deep Water" or "Buttercup," both of which I absolutely love and think are just filled with one classic line after another. Even after all that though, I think that my absolute favorite still has to be: Where are my angels? Where's my golden one? Where's my hope now that my heroes have gone? Some are being beaten Some are being born And some can't tell the difference anymore Amen Hallelujah Hallelujah I think it'll be tough to EVER top that (especially when you add that beautiful music on top). Trent Smith P.S. I just received possibly the most offensive* and condescending email I've ever gotten in my life. It was from Sean Hooks and the topic was basically "don't hate me 'cause I'm smarter than you are." I can't even respond to something like this; I wouldn't know where to start. I thought that it took a lot to shock me speechless, but Mr. Hooks has done it. I (sarcastically) congratulate him on his sheer audacity and yield my position. There's no way I can keep up with this. *Actually the MOST offensive was some anonymous message I got a couple years back seemingly inviting me to join a White Supremacist group.
