Let me review some important parts of this for newbies. First of all the purpose of these posts in to encourage angels to call their local radio stations and request YWMFM in order to help Jewel get the airtime she deserves. It is important not to disclose ourselves as EDAs or fans of Jewel in anyway. We are fans of music. We want to appear to the radio stations as a random sample of the general public so that they think that YWMFM is what the people want to hear. The reason I specify this is because a while back Mike suggested that we flood the VH1 webpage with requests for YWMFM and more then half of us disclosed ourselves as EDAs. People are going to take that real seriously(sarcastically). Please help our friend get the airtime she deserves to continue to live her dream. On my mailing list, which we use to share stories and poems and other writings, one person shared this poem. If you like it and want to write to her, this is her address: Merz@tiac.net I don't think it will ever be popular to be different. It's human nature to conform and even if they do unconform to conform they will do things only slightly different. I wrote a poem just the other day about the human sheeps who conform. It's message is fairly obvious so I'll just write. Ode to a sheep 'How doth thou be, my little sheep, Wandering in the pasture?' 'Thy art fine', the sheep reply. Lambs led to the slaughter. 'What do you do, my little sheep, Whilst wandering in the pasture?' 'We shop all day', the sheep reply. Lambs led to the slaughter. 'Do you think, my little sheep, Wandering in the pasture?' 'We'll have to ask someone', the sheep reply. Lambs led to the slaughter. 'Four legs good, two legs bad.' Do you get my message? Well do you? Oh yeah, don't get offended if you like to shop, I was just stereotyping and generalising. NOTE: 'Four legs good, two legs bad', is a quote from Animal Farm by George Orwell, it is a very good book which you SHOULD read. It is a nice idealistic thought you had but it really has no > place in an actual world. I agree.... It is one thing to be sensitive, but it is another thing to be overly-sensitive. Physical existance is painful. Most, if not all, healthy babys scream thier ass off upon entering this world. (And some not-so healthy babys, too) And as sick as it may sound, the majority, if not all, of people like a little pain in thier life. I guess it kinda reminds you that your alive. Sometimes people forget... Life is a constant effort to arrive at pleasure, and to advert pain. But sometimes pain can be pleasurful. Case in point: Has anyone ever heard of a candy called WARHEADS? It is this VERY, VERY sour candy. Actually it tastes more like it is rotten or something. (If you have ever eaten one, you know what I am talking about) Anyways, these things are AWFUL! Now, the first 30 seconds upon eating one are terrible. After that, it tastes just like a hard piece of candy. SO....I took a bunch of these to work...I wanted them to be out, so that customers could help themselves. ;-) It turns out that all the employees got to them before anyone else had a chance. Some people spit them out a few times, only to keep eating them until they finished one, then ate more of them. Everyone said how awful they were, but constantly I would see these same people eat them. And they would make to most hideous faces, and moan, and complain, but yet they would still eat the things. And eat more of them. I have taken a total of 120 pieces in to work the past two days, and ALL OF THEM ARE NOW GONE! So, my point I was making was that most people, it seems, have some amount of pain they NEED or LIKE in thier lives. Some people smoke, some drink, etc...These are all destructive/pleasurable things. You are hurting yourself at the same time you are stimulating your pleasure centers. Now that I look at my post, I really don't know what or why in the hell I am posting this! :) haze ------------------------------ From: Sergio Faissol Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 20:33:00 -0800 Subject: copy tapes Arthur and Jared, I sent you email with my adress and everything but I don't know if I got your emails right because I've never sent e-mail to two people at once, so if you didn't get it, mail me back. It REALLY bothers me when people on this list fling that self-rightous bullshit around. Are we not all here because of a common interest. Is this not a hangout for 'Angels'? Why the superiority complex? Why the power trip? Why the pride? And I am also tired of seeing 'newbies' attacked... Is it because you yourself were attacked as a newbie? If that is the case, then you are part of the problem, not the solution to what is wrong with society, and people in general. Some people do, because it was done to them. Others don't do, because it was done to them. For instance, a child grows up in a home where the mother is constantly abused physically, and mentally. When he gets older, and marrys, one of two thing will happen. He will either abuse his wife, or he won't. Now, if he LEARNED anything, then he would know that abuse is not right. That hurting another person is selfish and cruel. Now, if he learnt nothing, he will re-create the abuse he witnessed as a child. Too afraid to be a man and admit that such behavior is wrong. All I am trying to say, is that in the spirit of the season, it would be nice to see this list overflowing with KINDNESS, and TOLERANCE... The next time someone asks what brand of cigarettes Jewel smokes, don't be so quick to shout at them and say something like, "For the millionth time, IT"S A GRAPE LOLLYPOP!!! IT'S IN THE FAQ!!!! WE ALREADY HAVE DISCUSSED THIS!!!!" You have no way of knowing how someone happens to come accross this list. Quite possibly, they might not even know what FAQ stands for. They might have just been introduced to Jewel. It would be good to think of yourself as a representative of Jewel. Of what Jewel stands for. With what Jewel means to you. An ambassador, if you will. Try to greet the newbies with a warm smile, maybe a hug, and offer your knowledge of Jewel and this list to all that come by. There is strength in numbers, and for Jewel's sake, there simply cannot be 'too many' EDA's... I think this last statement is great, and one to live by, but, unfortunately, it seems to be almost diametrically opposed to the sentiments Sean Hooks has espoused in all of his recent posts. Perhaps that's at the core of why I find myself disagreeing so violently with everything he writes. Even so, knowing who HM and AN are isn't vital to understanding or appreciating "Morning Song" (heck, at Jewelstock she substituted two different names) and it certainly shouldn't be "expected" knowledge for anyone who isn't a literary critic. Mr Hooks' claim that "Tropic of Cancer" was one of the most influential books of all time was nothing more than pure hyperbole. One of the most influential books of the twentieth century? Maybe. But even so, without the movie "Henry and June" (which wasn't very good) I bet that 95+ out of 100 people wouldn't know who they were. Does this make me shake my head and dismiss the world as a cesspool of stupidity? No, it makes me want to share what I know. Thus, the subject line of this post and the main difference between Sean Hooks and me.
