Well this is my official "first post ever" and I hope it will lead to many more in the future. To add to that idea I have a suggestion. I'm sure you are all aware of the quote Jewel made about (my favorite song) "Painters" being in some relation to the Plutonian story (or Platonian "biographical story" for you Greek History buffs) the Symposium. If by chance your not aware of the comment it goes something like; "In the tenth grade, I was fascinated with the question, "What was immortality?" I read numerous philosophies, but the theory which has stayed with me was that of Plato, the Symposium. The idea that through Love and Beauty we achieve immortality. Putting all our soul in our work makes it not only alive with passion and emotion, but also it exists as one of the truest and most honest expressions of self. Making life a beautiful art, the art then retaining life. I still believe Beauty is one of the most important and difficult things to create and express." Although in the above copy of her quote she doesn't mention the stories' relation to her song, I have read of her relating the two before. (I guess you'll just have to take my word for it) Immediately after I read that, some three or four months ago, I went to the library and read the Symposium myself. It is in fact THE book of love. My rave of it would only serve myself as it must be read by you to be fully appreciated. That brings me to the point of my "first ever post". If you (EDA's and the like) are so inclined I could post the story in sections from week to week. A tribute to you for having this wonderful post, and a little something for you to think about on the way home from work. Of course, as I mentioned earlier I could only post a section at a time due to the length. And if there are some of you that either have read it, or for some other reason have no intention of wasting your time with it, say the word and I'll shut my trap (or phone line as the case may be). I must request that if you do want me to send it along, you say so as well because I don't want to irritate the many only for the few. Well, anyway it's a suggestion do with it as you may, I'll be hear listening and mumbling to myself. Thank you for reading, --Bruce bhartford3rd@juno.com ------------------------------ From: "Lara A. I recently buzzed my hair just to make life easier (no combing, getting in my eyes, etc) and concentrate on work and school. Although I did it with sorta the intentions of repelling women (and people in general :P) it had the opposite affect as I've had more women come up to me now than ever before. Damn irony... I thought some others might be interested so this is a review of a Dar Williams show i was at five days after Jewel played there. Unfortunately i missed Jewel as i didn't know she was on. I would love to have seen her coz the bar was just so intimate. Anyway here's what it was like: Last Sunday i got the chance to see her live in a small pub here in Ireland. She was excellent. She was soo funny. The bar i was in was very nice. Ok first imagine a small stage raised around two feet off the ground. Then there were three long tables each seating around twenty five people. I was sitting at the very front of the middle table. I was at the most two feet away from the stage sitting down with a drink beside me while she was playing :-) If i wanted i could reach out and touch her. In case you can't picture it this might (or might not) help: ____ ------- | ------* | Stage ------- |____ ^ | | Tables The * was where i was sitting. There we go. Also Dar stayed behind after to sing things and talk to people. (She taught me how to played guitar :-) But i don't know if Jewel did do this. Well that's about it for now. Unfortunately Jewel isn't well known in Ireland i don't know about Europe. I found out about her from "Duets" with Melissa Etheridge. Melissa isn't well known either but i got that video from someone in America. Anyway i'm looking foward to hearing more about Jewel as i don't know that much :-) Talk to you all soon, Jen.
