This place was a small bar and i would have loved to have seen her. I can't get over the fact i missed her. Oh well. I havn't much else to say only would anyone be interested in trading boots? Unfortunately i don't have any Jewel boots but i do have Melissa Etheridge, Alanis Morissette and Ani Difranco boots. Just because we on this list rarely talk about bands like that, don't think we aren't into them. I, for one, am into Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Garbage (yeah yeah, female singer), Queensryche, Dream Theatre, Faith No More, Manowar, Soul Asylum, Gravity Kills, etc.. but I don't bother talking about them because they don't overlap with "JEWEL" conversation at all (which is, afterall, the topic of this mailing list). I remember a thread MONTHS ago (maybe even a year ago) where this was covered about what other non-jewel-type bands people enjoyed. Don't assume that people don't enjoy/listen to/discuss elsewhere stuff just because they don't bring it up here. Well, today since I came to work I've listened to the following artists/bands: Harry Conick Jr. Roy Rogers (hey, I like it... so leave me alone) Lester Flats & Earl Scruggs Paul Simon (mid 70's stuff) Patty Rothberg Bob Seger Diamond Rio Marshall Tucker Band Little Feat Lynard Skynard Elvis Presley Jim Croce Allman Brothers The Outlaws The Flaming Lips Tony Bennett The Cars And I'm about to put it an Irish Drinking Song CD that contains The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers After that will probably be George Gershwin ("Porgy & Bess" ya know) or maybe Edwin McCain (thanks for introducing me Greg Wilms) or even Body Count. Ya just never know. See... some of us are quite diverse in musical tastes. Maybe even most of us are. It's just the topic of this list is Jewel, so people tend to stick with like artists (i.e. female singer/song writers, generally acoustic). So you can use that list of my music for the day to start discussions. One possible thread could be the "psychotic nature of Dean Harris based on his musical likes". First I want to say if you have a concern, please contact me and avoid posting to the list. Looking into these things is part of my "job" as administrator of this tape tree. I have the phone numbers of all but one of the branches and I know none of them would mind me calling. Now, please remember these things: 1) The branches are VOLUNTEERING their time (and ALOT of it) to make tapes for each and every one of their leafs. Normal tape trees consist of one tape, and as you all know this one is a three tape set. At 4.5 hours a set, a branch has to pretty much dedicate an evening per set. I know, I know. Some of you are thinking that they can just start dubbing and walk out the door. True in some cases, but they still have to be back in 45 minutes or 90 minutes (depending on their deck(s)), and MANY of the branches don't have cheapo equipment....many have two single decks without auto reverse and DO have to dedicate a night if they want to pop off the set in one evening. (I know what each of them has for equipment, the majority of them have quite decent stuff) 2) Each branch was assigned 11 leafs or MORE. I asked each to try to do 2 sets a week, and for 12 sets that amounts to 6 weeks. Last night was the 7 week point from the night I FIRST ASSIGNED any leaves to branches....tack on maybe a week from that date for the first tapes to arrive to branches and last night becomes the 6 week point. In other words, I think we are pretty much right on schedule. 3) This is really none of anyones' business, but I'm mentioning this to make some of the impatient leafs out there realize something. So far I've had 4 branches (that I know of) have personal problems that kept them out of action for a while. One was in the hospital for a week, another was out of the country on a family emergency, and two were dealt blows that I shall not divulge. So please be patient. Some of you may feel you've been more than patient, but please remember that for EVERY branch, a few leafs had to be near the end of the list of tapes to be dubbed. Tack on these reasons some branches have been delayed, and mid-November seems right on schedule. You WILL get your tapes. Sincerely, Mike ------------------------------ From: tom morales Date: Mon, 11 Nov 1996 15:19:52 +0000 Subject: Re: NJC : Rachel's Hair Update CornflkGl@aol.com wrote: > rights ? I was listening to a local station here in Montreal and heard You Were Meant for Me, which was followed by the dj describing how friends of his had been married on the weekend to the sound of Angel Standing By. He then went on to say what a great album it was and encouraged listeners to check it out. The reason I was so flabbergasted was that the commentary of any type on this station is limited exclusively to things such as: That was Phil Collins, and we will be right back with the new one from Journey or What's wrong with the Habs? For anyone to actually offer an opinion on the music they play is UNHEARD OF on this station, so it looks as though we have another convert on our hands ( she does have that effect on people). Just out of curiosity, has anyone else heard of people getting married to Jewel music? (Mind you, I don't think the majority of her songs would be appropriate; too heartbreaking) Toodles, Gerry P.S.
