I'm not sure I understand the whole vote thing about using the usenet, but I just wanted to kind of open a little discussion about this. Isn't the internet supposed to be a place where everyone can voice any opinion that they have? I don't see any reason for a white supremicist, or a republican, or a cute and fuzzy bunny (had to use it, it's in the subject) can have a site or something to talk about things they think are important. No one beleives a word the neo-nazi's say (except their own twisted ranks) so the place ;they would have would be small, useless, and eventually fade away, like their gray and brain-dead ideas. Anyway, just a thought or two because I'm out of frisbee-dodging practice. Hey, I kinda like this devil's advocate thing... I agree with your position- even if we don't agree with what a group has to say, that doesn't mean we should deny communication with them. The best cure for unhealthy political attitudes is discussion, and with this news group there would be a public forum for just that. It would give you the opportunity to defend your side of the issue, and convert previously unreachable people to your views. James ------------------------------ From: Xenomorph Date: Sat, 09 Nov 96 08:58:17 -0500 Subject: Feelings on another Jewelstock, No locations I'd just like to say that I personally agree with Sinjin's comments. I don't want it in my backyard because I live here everyday. I looked forward to and loved the planning of flying from Florida to New York last summer. Visiting a place I've never been in Woodstock and Bearsville. Who knows if I ever would have gotten there otherwise, probably not. I realize we can't all spend money or go into debt :) to travel for a Jewelstock, but for me, it was well worth it. It almost seems like a Jewelstock should be where nobody lives (like nobody actually lived in Woodstock) so we all travel some distance, no matter how far. We're brought together with a common passion, exploring a new place, each other and new ideas. Sinjin has the right idea in my opinion, at least it just makes the whole thing that much more of an event. And as far as I know, when Sinjin and I saw each other at the airport on Sunday, we were the last EDA's in the area. Had to be for that Saturday stay deal. If there is another one, I'd encourage that if possible. STAY for a bit. Spend some time with EDA's. Even if Jewelstock II was only one night with Jewel, stay at least another night and hang out. How often are you going to get to spend time with EDA's from thousands of miles away? The conversations I had with others, and the time spent just hanging out is just as strong a memory as the Jewel shows themselves. I only wish I could have gotten to know even more of you in person than I did. To the next opportunity.... I even has a pair of people that were BOTH out of the country- you two, I put you together because I thought you'd be able to share your angst of not getting to see Jewel very much. And some people mailed me and told me they wanted to join the group but they didn't say if they were newbies or parents, and I didn't recognize their screennames, so I just guessed, and... oh well.
