Yeah, they wear boots and funny clothes, but the closest they've been to a cow is on that stupid video for CMT. The real country is still played by the people on the land, and until you've heard them sing/play it, it's not country. Top 40 music is not representative of whatever music it claims to be (alternative {an oxy-moron in and of itself, but that's another story} country, rock, etc) it's homogenized, and watered down to be enjoyed by all who perfer to have their music tastes dictated to them. I've been in a few bands on and off, and been almost booed off the stage for doing punk, country, and what have you, simply beacuse of the stupid top 40 stuff that convinces people all of one type of music sucks. Well, I hadn't forgotten about you. Just I needed more time to consider how to make it fair for all. So, along with the already stated modifiers, EDAs who dwell overseas, or are otherwise restricted from the usual EDA activities get double points for any modifier they qualify for. And another EDA can qualifier a modifier in another EDA's name. For instance, if Mike meets Jewel he can do so on behalf of all the Australian EDAs, and so they each can add a month to their score. And other liberties can be taken; Rafa counts for attending Jewelstock because a song he requested was played. Oh yes, and anyone, of course, can create their own modifiers for whatever they do. Jewel is definitely ard to pigeonhole (a good thing), and I think that's because she so varied and so original. I believe she's about 1/2 folk, 1/8 country (because country is derived from folk music), 1/4 chanteuse, and 1/8 rock/pop. Or something like that. Take one part Jewel and two parts water, mix vigorously...whatever. She's wonderful, and that's really all that matters. Yeah. Country. It's a sensitive subject. I can some country, because I like folk music very much. Some of it just gets on my nerves. That's just how I feel. To me, much of today's country--like much of all of today's music--seems impersonal; like they're just writing this song about nothing, to make a buck. That's why I like folk very much, because the songs are usually very intimate and personal. That's one reason why Jewel is labeled a folkie. When an artist gets popular, that doesn't mean they're no good any more. They're not as good when they let it get to them, and make their style more impersonal. For some artists, this never happens. Hopeefully, it won't happen to Jewel. I don't think it will. Who can I talk to about JS tapes? My tape player ate mine, irreparably damaging it. I now have a new tape player, but I need new JS tapes. For weeks now, there has been no news of Jewel, other than she is in Europe. One has to wonder whether Lady J intentionally withheld details of her Europe trip, so that she might have some privacy from us. If the EDAs, the group that have debated whether she was smoking a cigarette or sucking on a lollipop one time, or discussed what she had for dinner at the Thursday JS (spaghetti, no meatballs, right Mike?) are unable to ascertain her whereabouts other than Europe, I would suspect there is a design behind this secrecy.
