I saw there was an entry about WHFS there (Sept. 95), but it was before the entry for singing the National Anthem at Camden Yards. On JPT that was brought up, and was said to have occured the time before the last time she was in the area (Baltimore/Wash.DC). I also recall that JPT was well before (at least 2 weeks?) she performed in the Wizard of Oz. After I had joined the ML, there was a radio contest to go see the performance (which I didn't win). Now, I believe that JPT was the same weekend as when she performed at the 9:30 Club with Deep Blue Something. I remember hearing about the show and not being interested (because all I had heard of Jewel was WWSYS) but after hearing JPT, I wished I had heard of her before so I could've gone to that show. My confusion is, I'm sure, partly due to my not-so-perfect memory. But trying to match what I remembered to what was in the Chronology only made me more confused. So if anyone else remembers what was going on with Jewel and when she was in the Balt./WashDC area one year ago, I'd appreciate getting this straightened out. But one question: Why are there two instances of her singing the National Anthem at the Yard in the Chronology? - ----- telliamed@juno.com ### All opinions expressed are yours. Anyway, now that I've got that off my chest, the reason that I am writing is to ask if anybody know's of any Jewel bootlegs that are available or if anybody wishes to tape trade. The only bootleg that I have come across so far is her Foolish Games/You can sleep when I drive Duet with Melissa Etheridge from the VH1 show. SJC Hi my angels, I just wanted to inform you that my sister Shelly is now to be deemed "Crash Girl". (Eric....I think I found your soul-mate) Yesterday, Shelly was making a left out of a parking lot and was hit on the driver's side...she shattered the driver's side window with her head and was knocked out. She is pretty foggy as to what happened. My mom, step-dad, and I were just hanging around the house when we received a call from the emergency room. My mom got this ghastly look on her face and said "Shelly's been in a car accident" We all ran to the car and were on our way. I was scared...all of these thoughts kept going through my head like "is she going to be ok?"....and then another thought came to my head...ohmigod....that is her brand new car. I walked into the emergency room where she was staying and I could see her feet hanging off the stretcher behind a curtain. I walked up to her....she was still taped on the stretcher, there was a stream of dried blood coming from these cat-scratch-like cuts on her face, and her neck was in a brace. When she saw my mom, she began to cry. I hate hospitals and had to leave a couple of times because I thought I was gonna faint. The doctor orderd a cat scan of her head and stomach. Shelly kept complaining that her head and ribs hurt...then she nonchalantly asked if she could sit up because she had glass sticking in her back...she had been laying there all that time and hadn't said anything about glass in her back. After a tedious time of waiting to see if everything was in place(her organs and bones that is) the doctor came back and told us that she was fine. That was a big relief! She is doing ok right now....she has a VERY BIG goose egg on her head, and her ribs are extremely sore. (as she would say..."I look like elephant girl")They went to go see her car at the towing company, and I guess it is in pretty bad condition.(her CDs in the trunk were all out of their cases which most had been cracked, a pop that she had in the cup holder was in the backseat, glass from the window covered the car, the driver's side door was smashed in, the front of her car is smashed, the wheel that was hit is totally turned sideways and is caved in, and pieces of the engine are sticking out of the hood) It is amazing that she wasn't hurt badly. Here is my Jewel content...at the time of the crash, she was listening to JewelStock tape 1......hmmmmm....could it be that our angel kept Shelly safe from further injury?? The tape and its case are still in perfect condition too. Ok I am stretching for Jewel content...but it is there!!!! Thanks for reading!!! I'll just tell you how I draw faces when I want to get it as close as possible to the real thing. I almost always draw in pencil because I think that it is the easiest (I just wish that I knew how to ink over pencils). I usually concentrate on what makes the person's face distinct and special (kinda like a caricaturist, but I don't make it cartoony and disproportionate); and I pay special attention on how the eyes look. With jewel, I've found that she has quite the round face and nice round cheeks that are truly like apples in that they are so round and cute. When she smiles, they are really prominent in their roundness. Her eyes are almost asian in that they aren't wide and big like normal caucasians. If you are not doing a full on frontal drawing of jewel, remember that she has a very Roman nose with a big bend at the bridge. Her hair isn't too difficult since it's basically the Jennifer Aniston cut that is so popular these days (abestos suit on). The best drawing of jewel that I've done is a full on face of her smiling. She has a chubby cuteness about her face that is pretty fun to draw. Katherine Davis wrote about Natalie Portman (who was excellent in The Professional (or Leon if you saw it outside of the US). Jean Reno is a total badass). Anyways, I think that it was on this list that someone wrote asking about Natalie Portman because she was in his math class. I'm pretty sure that it was on this list a while ago, like before the summer. I don't know if he's still here. Better check the digest archive. Pat Brown. You never officially married into my family so, you don't have to worry about changing your name back. If it makes you feel better, I'll get the divorce papers to you by friday;) and I was also confused by the date that Mr. BB put for the Camden Yards performance, so I wrote him about it. The thing is, there is no way that she sang the national anthem there in late October because the baseball season doesn't extend that far. So the first date in the archives is prolly the right one. A song for Jewel to cover: anything sung by Eponine in Les Miz. I originally was thinking that it would sound cool if Sarah M. sang those tunes, and it would definitely be beautiful, but I think that Jewel can pull off the Eponine voice better than Sarah beacuse sarah has a more ethereal voice and jewel has a more earthy voice. Oh, PLEASE allow me to spout off about my brush with fame just ONE more time, please, PLEASE ? Those of you who've heard my rantings about this, just smile and nod... and for you newbies.. well... does everybody remember the girl who sang the part of Jasmine for "Aladdin" ? Her name is Lea Salonga... she also had the lead part in Miss Saigon for a really long time... and she won a Tony for her part as Eponine in Les Mis... anyway, I'm gonna tell you one more time, I DATED HER LITTLE BROTHER !!! For a few weeks over the summer. His name is Gerard, and he goes to Berklee College of Music in Boston. He's a jazz major but he's taking a sememster off right now to conduct a production of "Carousel" in the Phillipines. Anyway, one of the coolest things was that, since he was Filipino, his Mom wouldn't allow him to date, so it had to be a secret ( come on, the kid was 24 ) but Gerard would tell Lea everything about me, and she actually had my phone number. If we were talking late at night, I could hear her in the background, singing ( one night she did a KICK ASS rendition of a Jackson 5 song) . Anyway, right now, she's doing Les Mis in Honolulu. Aren't I informative ? So, yes, I think Jewel would be a great Eponine. her voice isn't quite opera-ey enough, and I think she'd have a REALLY hard time pulling off the street urchin look, but she could do it. I htink a great part for Jewel to have to start off on Broadway would be Meg in Phantom, 'cause Meg just has a cute little voice. Although, well... can Jewel ballet dance ? Oh well, maybe I'll just have to write her a part when I grow up :). Rachel, who just HAPPENS to go to school with Tori Amos's cousin ( Okay, okay, so you guys already know that too.
